I know this is the BF equivalent of saying Candyman 3 times but Marshall was disappointing. Hardly saw him after a an impressive early goal. That last shot for goal, was I deceived by angles, I thought he looked about 40m out and popped it up to the front of the square.

Oh and a really abstract conceptual thought I had late in the game that could revolutionise football - when you're defending a 2 point lead ... DON'T KICK THE BALL OUT ON THE FULL!

First bit of footy I've seen all year. Prolly the last. What an absolute shitshow.

Kinda comforting, tho. Like an rerun of your fave sitcom from back in the day. Coz you know exactly what's gonna happen. So you sit back and watch all ho-hum with complete detachment, no emotional connects, while browsing eBay for OG Kenner Star Wars s**t (or whatever your particular vice is.)

Dixon is super-cooked. Yeah, he kicked that big goal no-one thought he would. But this hobbling hobo cosplayer is costing us goals, if anything. Just clogging up the forward line. Hell, I've got achilles tendonitis, a bung quad and bone-piercing arthritis in my lower leg and i'm still more mobile than Chief Angry Face.

McEntee either has dirt on Ken or is Ken's gimp that gets let out on match day. At least a gimp knows how to play farken. Not like this clueless bastard.

Conversely, Dyl Will must've won the trifecta at Angle Park and not cut in Ken or some sh!t. His banishment to footy Siberia makes no sense. Then again, logic and common sense have hardly been defining features of Herr Hinkley's bizarre reign of chronic underachievement.

F@%k me with the rough end of a pineapple, I'd have Williams in b4 a good half-dozen: Burton, Farrell, DBJ, Jones, Mac n Mead.

Leave Burgoyne on the wing and let the kid settle at this level, ffs.

Marshall gonna Marshall. Just gotta accept him for who he is. He'll never be AA but will tease kicking a bag every now and then with a nice knock-on here and there that'll have everyone extolling his high footy IQ. Mfer must've been playing 4D chess by not having a ping from outside fiddy.

Anyway I'm gonna go back watching 80s Port games on YouTube coz these flakes ain't winning sh!t...

Welcome back and see you again in a month when you might have forgotten what this feels like. :D

It’s like we tried to lose it

I’ve read half the above and the footy IQ is at an all time low here.

Jones was fantastic- some heroic stuff that if it had been done by Michael Wilson you’d be filling the internet with praise. His opponent, Walters, who is a top class small forward, did nothing.

It was a win over a side that had a midfield of Serong, Brayshaw, Young, O’Meara and some guy who won a lazy 2 brownlows- and a premiership ruck- you take that.

I really thought he would take the next step this year…sigh.

I saw a lot of improvement in Jones

An extremely ugly game and an ugly win, but we take the 4 points and move on.

The good

I thought we were goneski when Freo got 10 points in front at about the halfway mark of the last qtr, but the team lifted and fought it out aided by a few cameos that eventually got us the chocolates, but they still made some valiant attempts to hand the game back to the oppo on a plate.

The bad

the kokmeister will be merchant banking over the come from behind win ala Donald Trump with a couple of Russian hookers in a Moscow hotel room, but we all know kern's game plan will go campaigner up as per usual in the finals, assuming of course we make them.

I hadn't seen the quarter time blue between Hinkley and Dixon. Getting a bit of discussion on Offsiders.

I have no idea how we won that. Until that final siren went I was expecting a Ken Hinkley special. Play in a hard fought finals type contest and just fall short (the getting blown away option wasn't on the cards).

I don't know who played well, it felt like Miles Bergman made things happen whenever he had the ball, albeit without a heap of touches.

Thought Lachie Jones was good, provided some good cover and his pace forced some hurried kicks. Stopped some of their breakaway plays with powerful tackling.

Georgie was good in patches, Dixon was a statue who came to life twice.

The midfield was all cameos.

This is what happens when I try to be positive about them. I apologise for tempting the footy gods.
Bergman frustrates me. I feel he goes missing for large portions of the game in most games. He does some great things particularly his long goals, but given his athletic ability, I expect him to provide a better link option for the team than he does.

Low footy IQ would be failing to recognise that the brand of football served up last night won’t be conducive to winning AFL finals.

He's as good as he's ever going to be.

For 99% of people, that's a bit disappointing because ultimately you'd hope he was performing week in, week out and leading the forward line.

Unless your name is philthy, then Marshall is actually going above and beyond expectations and you don't even know.

Nah Soldo was very solid. Had 18 HOs to advantage - twice as many as Jackson and Treacy combined. Was vital is equalising stoppages with our on ballers getting beaten otherwise
I'm really happy with Soldo. He's nowhere near as athletic as the best ruckmen in the league & that will never change. But he stays involved in the game all game virtually every week trying his hardest for the team. I felt our midfielders didn't capitalise on his tapping on many occasions.

Don’t understand the Burton hate on this forum.

The game has changed and he’s elite by foot.

All over the ground there are offensive and defensive oriented players, not just in traditional zones.

Defensive forwards lock the ball in. Offensive defenders attack with incisive kicking.

We will never see the best of Burton against Freo with their defensive setups. But they’re the outlier aren’t they?
The Burton hate is his continued sqwibbing when it comes time to put his body on the line

I think this just reflects the low standards we have for our rucks after basically having terrible rucks for the past 15 years aside from that 1 year Ryder played good. Yeah he got some taps and did some nice things but ultimately Jackson was more influential than he was therefore he lost his position on the night.
Agree there is an element of this in my thinking. But I believe Soldo is getting the maximum out of his ability & I'm grateful for that. He's not athletic but within these constraints he works his butt off for the team.

McEntee should be sent to the gallows after that. He struggles against the bottom teams let alone good ones, there is no way he should be playing AFL football.

Hopefully we look back at this as the coming of age game for Burgoyne. Some good signs.

Nice to see Bergman have some moments after a quiet start to the year.

Esava is going to frustrate - sometimes good, sometime s**t - but worth persevering with.

Wines is a bull but seems to throw our mid balance out. His lack of versatility is a problem. Drew, Rozee, Butters, JHF all ahead of him. If we could get a 2nd round pick for him I think you do it.
You are underestimating Freo on-ballers and dour defence.
I thought Wines was among our best last night where he excelled as the 2nd ruck

Jones being fantastic is a stretch, I ain't going to watch full game again for anything, but I sit around flank position and from where I sit two of the frees he gave away cost goals, one down the ground the other for holding on too long when we were marching forward and they kicked a goal against play. Jones own body language showed he knew he cost the team. His opponent marked one without much pressure to kick a goal at the northern end. He got hold of the jumper of the player in front of us on the back south west 50, but gave up 20 metres to his player and if Freo didn't stuff the entry, Jones had no chance, so is that good play or just luck? He took a good mark on South West back flank over his player, which was very good. For his game to be labelled fantastic it's a stretch. He was recipient of some uncontested possession coming out of back line which accounted for most of his possessions, and the reason his disposal efficiency was as high as it was. Honestly can't see how he stayed in team after the start of season he has had. So lack of footy iq, you can say what you like but if that standard has you giddy, then so be it, I feel like the team will let you down as other teams will have higher standards for their players

Worst post of the year.
Agree we need to keep getting games into Jase where we all know what gold pass should be with drawn.
For what it's worth, his younger and stockier brother Rome, is rated the best (footballer) of Peter's three sons.
