Jackson had 7 clearances to Soldo’s 1. Dockers won the clearances 40-31 and had double ports centre clearances? Wouldn’t call that destroyed ?
Who said destroyed? His effort last night and since he’s been here has been great.
Play that game last night with Lycett in ruck and 100% we would have lost.

Lot of our expert posters dismissed him as a plodder but he has shown more in the short time he’s been here than many that has gone before him.
At worst he makes a contest and that’s a lot better than what we’ve had.

I’ve read half the above and the footy IQ is at an all time low here.

Jones was fantastic- some heroic stuff that if it had been done by Michael Wilson you’d be filling the internet with praise. His opponent, Walters, who is a top class small forward, did nothing.

It was a win over a side that had a midfield of Serong, Brayshaw, Young, O’Meara and some guy who won a lazy 2 brownlows- and a premiership ruck- you take that.
Jones pace is keeping Williams out the team; if Williams performs well for the Magpies perhaps Burton and not Jones would be dropped (for him).

Not all doom & gloom where lessons learned from the last five minutes will assist us in the finals.

The last quarter ball ups seemed to be a repeat of Soldo pushing the ball in front of himself and the Freo mids reading it better. Happened three times in quick succession on the eastern wing. Our mids were more focused on their opponents than the ball.
Last week the mids were attack-minded, Last night defensive-minded. I don't know what to make of that.

Freo have come a long way, which made for a tough but skilful game.

I do have some issues, eg constantly kicking to Charlie, but overall I'm not seeing the reason for such negativeness about the game.

Enjoy the win.

Agree but he has never played more than 14 games in a season.
It is a very long season, it would be prudent to get some games into Sweet so we do not limp into another September.

Jackson killed Soldo. Hitouts and hitouts to advantage have no correlation with winning a game or even winning clearances. its the most pointless stat in the AFL.

I love that people are quick to write off clearances/ hitouts as useless stats, often while in defence of a ruck that gets more possessions when possessions is zero guarantee of a win.

Last week 4 teams lost the game while winning the possession count.

Not as simple as that. Then Pearce moves to Marshall and Ryan to MG etc.

Dixon is great for structure, we just need to use other options when that option is not working.
Agree with this. He only stands out like dogs balls because we go to him constantly. He is the most targeted player in the league inside f50 which is astounding.

His role now should be to take the big gorilla defender and nullify him by the team playing around not targeting him.

I didn’t watch the game closely but it was on in the background at the pub I was at.

Agree with this. He is a great bail out contested mark option. But with mobile talks like Marshall, finlayson when he is around and Georgiades we should be able to devise a game plan that makes the most of their strengths as well as Charlie’s. It’s a bit frustrating that we can’t. Having said that I don’t think Dixon has been even close to as bad as people on here have been suggesting. Still going at nearly 2 goals a game, above average for marks, contested marks and possessions. Just needs to convert the easier shots at goal he gets.

Burgoyne's best game I reckon, when he eventually finds the keys to the weights room he'll be a beast..
I beg to disagree. Jase is Jase just like Justin Westhoff being Justin Westhoff. Yes, some light weights that’s all he needs as his fitness and his football smarts will ensure that he can have a worthwhile AFL career.
When he first came on the scene what impressed me was his competing on the ground with his opponent for the ball - he rarely lost

Freo are a good team. Very good midfield, up there with the best in the league. Their defence is excellent as well. Pearce is almost the best defender in the game. Ryan very strong as an intercepting rebounder. Whatever you think about their game style they are very hard to score against. We played poorly, but some of that has to come down to the opposition and what they let us do. Games like this you have to win to make finals. Glad to get away with the 4 points and move on.

One thing I learnt last night, and TeeKray will back me up on it, is that Freo will definitely win the return bout in Perth in Round 24.
If I was a Freo supporter, I wouldn't put up with watching that defensive game plan week in week out, I'd stay home and do almost anything else, so come end of season will they still be so defensive?

Jones being fantastic is a stretch, I ain't going to watch full game again for anything, but I sit around flank position and from where I sit two of the frees he gave away cost goals, one down the ground the other for holding on too long when we were marching forward and they kicked a goal against play. Jones own body language showed he knew he cost the team. His opponent marked one without much pressure to kick a goal at the northern end. He got hold of the jumper of the player in front of us on the back south west 50, but gave up 20 metres to his player and if Freo didn't stuff the entry, Jones had no chance, so is that good play or just luck? He took a good mark on South West back flank over his player, which was very good. For his game to be labelled fantastic it's a stretch. He was recipient of some uncontested possession coming out of back line which accounted for most of his possessions, and the reason his disposal efficiency was as high as it was. Honestly can't see how he stayed in team after the start of season he has had. So lack of footy iq, you can say what you like but if that standard has you giddy, then so be it, I feel like the team will let you down as other teams will have higher standards for their players

Agree with most of this but still think he has attributes we badly need. If he can improve his awareness & composure he will be an important player for us.

Anyway what a bad game. We truly escaped with a hinkleyball there. There seemed to be no actual gameplan or structure beyond get the ball to contest/stoppage, and hope our talent is able to extract the footy from congestion and get it forward to the next contest/stoppage. Ball movement? Marks? Leading? Overlapping run? Having a bounce? Laying shepherds? None of the above!

Kennys cluster was in full effect last night. I was at the game on the angle behind the goals and we were all insanely frustrated with our forwards lack of movement and the ball just getting bombed in to a cluster of players about 10m out from goal. Mitch was our only clear lead all night. We just seem like a super dumb team sometimes. We didn't change our method the whole night.

Go back and check the post I quoted re: destroyed.

Not dismissing Soldo’s game, dismissing those who dismissed Jackson’s influence . Soldo was excellent and a massive upgrade on what we’ve had the last few seasons with the corpse of Slyce.

It's the last round of the season so who knows, could depend on what is on the line for both teams. All things being equal, they're going to be very tough to beat in Perth this year.

I want him to be as good as he can be. he can't be sloppy giving away free kicks in the back zone and he needs to be a bit tighter checking. I want to like him as a player, he has a ruggedness that isn't Farrell's game. Dropping uncontested chest marks like he did in the first home game, will take a little bit to forget.
