That 1999 north can't be correct we didn't beat north until 03

Re-read my opening sentence. These are games we lost from in front

I'm not sure which forum topic this subject belongs to, but it's been on my mind for ages, probably like most die-hards.

In 2013/2014 - we had this super exciting brand of footy, played through the centre, at breakneck speed, and a seemingly never-ending overlap all the way to the goal line. We looked like we found the key to beating the Geelongs, hawthorns, Sydney etc

In 2015, we started the season against Freo, and the game plan had changed 360. Instead of fast, flowing football, we went to a chippy possession-based game from the half-back.

2016 we started playing the down the line stoppage game. It was slow, we looked undersized to play that contested footy.

In 2017 we played a forward press game, often without a forward though, as the ball moved too fast, and we were just dumping it, trying to get stoppages. In 2018 we just couldn't convert goals, and this continued for the 2019 season as well.

In 2020, we started to play this corridor football, leading forwards, aggressive press, with the lock-in players seemingly playing in perfect position for repeat entries. It was exciting, we were manic and it looked like we had found that perfect mix of scoring, speed and lockdown.

2021 - we have a red hot Orazio, a fantastic intercepting half back in Aliir, but we have started the triple switch across the back, slow build, possession game again.

Now I'm not sure what is happening but every time it looks like ripping the AFL apart, we seem to change the game style the got us deep in finals. This year, of all the years with the new rules, I would have thought the 2020 game plan would have ripped the AFL apart, but we have lost it this year. I hope we can turn it around soon

Brisbane 2001 after 9 rounds were 4-5 103.8% 9th beat Essendon next game at home and started their run
Sydney 2005 after 9 rounds were 5-4 95.8% 6th
==========
Bulldogs 2016 after 9 rounds were 6-3 133.9% 5th
Richmond 2017 after 9 rounds were 5-4 107.0% 7th

You don't win a premiership in April and May, and you don't lose one either unless you have half a dozen season ending injuries to your top 10-15 players.

assuming (which I guess is the tenor of the discussion) that Hinkley is a Matthews, Roos Beverage, or Hardwick level coach

8½ years of data would imply not

True, but Hardwick was seen as Hinkley type never achieved anything, hasn't won a final yet, in the middle of 2017 after his head was called for after 7 seasons in the job at the end of 2016. Roos and Beveridge were newish coaches. Matthews had won a flag and was experienced.

Our players have to do it and have to change their mind set, just like all 4 groups of players above did after them and their clubs' decades of failures.

The club set premiership expectations, if we don't achieve that or even make a ģf then they have no choice
I believe he is contracted to 2023 so with the club's drive to eradicate the debt, I don't think we can afford to replace him before then.

PTSD warning next time please

Also there's some games on here that are doubled and tripled up, was that with the Hinkley list too?

I'd rather a simple explanation from a winner.

Gentleman Jack's explanations were never complicated.

A quick skim suggests the vast majority of these fadeouts occurred after Andrew Russell was poached by Hawthorn.

There’s still a few notable bad ones — the 2001 Hawthorn Semi chief among them — and the statistical likelihood of all these failures being solely down to a lack of being able to run the game out is low, but gee whiz.

Brisbane were beating good sides in 2001
