12 months to late IMHO.

That atrocious PF humiliation will carry on into next season. Hinkley has already lost the players, & our performances will reflect that fact.

The 2 players (Boak & Gray) we have routinely relied upon over the years to etch out wins are on their last legs.

Don't be surprised to see us fall out the 8, with Koch to write off 2022 as an aberration.

Honestly if we keep Ken then the best result (outside of a flag) is total capitulation next year to get Ken sacked and decent draft pick for the new coach to get a gun mid.

I can’t see Ken being sacked unless there is a seriously good coach waiting to come in.
He’s terrible in big games but the reality is an untried coach is not the way to go.
Like Clarkson?

What’s extra-bizarre is, the club has gone all-in on data and analytics in recent years, so would be acutely aware of these splits and numbers — not to mention the dreadful Adelaide Oval record.

And yet the President’s straight onto 5AA to spruik the 60% overall win/loss record.

I might try sit down at some stage and work out what the real percentage is vs non top 4 teams.

I see the value in what Ken has done in 9 years, our list is probably in the best space it has been since we won 2004, and in part we have recovered from our awful trading between recruiting Boak/Gray and when Ken started.

Although I don’t think we are winning a flag with Boak/Gray/Jonas and Dixon in the side, regardless of the coach.

A different coach may have got more out of the players, maybe not. I think years of being losers Boak/Gray/Dixon/Jonas - the mental default is to lose.

Regardless it is time for a change. Fresh coach, leadership, is needed - PAFC is stale. The game plan is one dimensional built around player limitations like Dixon.

I don’t like drastic change, but the board needs to tell Ken it’s over, and it’s time for a youth policy in 2022 - and the club needs to be ruthless in this trade period and get rid of Lycett, Dixon, and Jonas. Make a statement.

Ollie should be made captain.

And PAFC should be all in on getting Clarkson when he is ready mid season next year. Our ability to recruit players/ free agents if we had Clarko would be huge. Clarko’s influence on AFL house would be a huge advantage. Not too mention his coaching and development skills.

The breathe of fresh air would be a massive motivation for the players.

It would also be ruthless by the club to enforce this change in response to losing a prelim, as opposed to being a cellar dwellers.

Hey LHR you come across as being somewhat qualified to speak on Kern and his thinking can you confirm or shoot down a theory I have on him? (anybody else who can weigh in please do)

To me Ken has very little investment in the broader Port Adelaide club, its history, its membership etc.. I don't get a sense at any point he actually truly likes the place or us (generally). That part of his job comes across as very transactional ie you pay me to coach and I coach but I don't have to buy into this other sh*t..

To me (aside from the obvious priority of family) he really only gives a toss about 'his' players (defined by the blokes he either likes or needs) it wouldnt surprise me at all to find out he really still cares about the Cats and his old footy mates more than the place that's made him a millionaire and invested a decade in his ideas.

is this true?
I’m flattered you would seek my opinion, and I’m happy to give it.

You ask if I think Ken generally dislikes South Australia and does not buy in to the PAFC 151 Years, only pretends to.

Short answer is: I agree with this. He neither likes the state nor the Club. He likes his bank account of course and the AFL/PAFC lucre that flows into it because of the job he is finding more and more impossible to carry out.

But why? It wasn’t like that in 2013-2014.

There is too much for me to add to this post to do justice to your, I assume, desire for a full and rounded opinion … including conversations I’ve had, hearsay from respectable sources, first-hand observations, first-hand judgements ….

So I’m thinking of creating a separate, specific thread, with the OP aimed at properly answering the question: Why?

At present the working title is: ‘When Kochie Met Kenny - Analysis of a Toxic Chemical Reaction.’

I re-watched the first 10 mins. It was actually deplorable the effort. Quite stunning really.

I just don’t understand how this is even possible. After all the hard yards, playing, training, travelling all year, why would you take your foot off the gas when you’re so close to your goal? Wouldn’t you practically kill yourself to reach it at that point?

Or am I overestimating their desire for a flag? Do some of our players just not actually want it that much? Or is it that they fear failure more and are too scared to put themselves out there on the biggest stage? Did they see Melbourne dismember Geelong and subconsciously think they’d rather not be on the end of that in a GF?

I dunno maybe I’m way off, but I don’t have a alternative theory that makes any more sense.

Why would we do any forward planning? Koch and Hinkley are tied together and will be more than happy to create a mess when they leave (lets see how you go without us).

Maybe Richardson then, somebody needs to drive it at some level because Ken isn't being renewed again. I doubt he'll last next year.
