Hinkley is also appreciative to be entering his 10th season as the Power’s coach.

Hired at the end of 2012 and in charge for 262 matches, Hinkley is the club’s second-longest serving AFL mentor.

He sits fourth for total games among the league’s 2022 coaching crop and ranks 43rd all-time.

Only 12 of those ahead of him on the list are also without premierships.

There are just three – Bill Stephen, Terry Wallace and Brad Scott – whose senior coaching CVs do not include a grand final appearance.

Hinkley says growing as a coach and being at a football club that “understands the importance of stability and building” have been instrumental to his longevity.

“It’s a tough job, it’s a tough industry,” he says.

Few would doubt Hinkley’s passion.

But his inability to at least make a flag decider from back-to-back home preliminary finals has raised doubts outside the club about his coaching and led to external pressure building again.

Hinkley says living in Adelaide means you cannot avoid what is being written or said about himself and the team.

How is this any different to living in WA or Victoria? If you don't want any exposure he really should have made the move to GC. What ever happened to getting "comfortable with being uncomfortable"?

Caroline Wilson

When Kane Cornes says that the fans have turned on him she raises her eyebrows and says " 2 Prelims in a row. A man who has come in with David Koch and others and rebuilt that football club". She then went on to comment calling us "more of a recipient club of the AFL" and said she remembers Hinkley having to ask the club for a longer contract and more support because of the Adelaide environment when things aren't going well. So basically we're all supposed to just sit down and shut up because Hinkley helped the club out a decade ago. **** me!

My letter was bang on right. Safe to assume everyone else's was too. It's baffling watching that video that the other 3 still think there's no issue here, wtf.
Sam McClure "Are Port supporters starting to turn?"

Maybe if he did an ounce of research, he would have known the answer to that question about 7 years ago.

They probably think being a "recipient club" of the AFL means that whenever you put yourself in a position to give it a shot means the coach is obviously doing his job. Premierships are hard to win and it's a lottery once you get to a position where you can challenge in the finals. For a "recipient club".

What the **** does she mean 'recipient' club? You know what we receive? A bag of burning shit delivered to our doorstep every year by the VFL while those 'giving' clubs play every second Friday night or standalone marquee games. Carlton have been ****ing shit for decades now and still get countless primetime fixtures every single season.
Port and Adelaide are playing THE FIRST FRIDAY NIGHT SHOWDOWN EVER this week, after 25 YEARS. AND IT'S NOT EVEN A STANDALONE GAME!!!
Richmond got bloody 28k to the G this week with '100k members'
North Melbourne got 14k
Even Carlton and Bulldogs, two teams from the same city playing at their home ground got just 34k

Crowds in general are falling all across the league, because the wishy-washy way the competition treats its supporters, the ever-changing rules of the game, the fixture inequality, the unexplainable MRO system, and the falling standard of the actual product.
This Victorian media perspective of 'recipient clubs' needs to be called out. Kane Cornes is sitting right there listening to this about his club and just lets it through to the keeper. It's baffling to me. How about the AFL throw us a bone and give us 10 Friday night games a year indefinitely, slot Richmond and Carlton in at Sunday twilight every second week for the next 10 years and we'll see who's a 'recipient club' after that?

The 'little defence things'. The issue is we can't f**king score no matter the amount of time we spend in our forward half.
Its honestly sickening that blokes like Butters are copping heat here.

He's literally just getting blamed for the incompetence of Bassett.

The expectation is to bring the ball to ground... What a joke.

Bringing the ball to ground is an acceptable compromise when failing to take a mark.

Every forward should be expected to mark when they get hands on the footy.

It just shows how absolutely demented the things they're told are. You can't blame a single player when this is the nonsense circulating the club.

You reckon Sam Mitchell told Mitchell Lewis to go out and bring the ball to ground so hopefully a midfielder can kick a goal? What about Daniher or Bailey? Reckon Hawkins goes out there thinking oh gee hope I can bring this ball to ground cause that's where the magic happens? No. You're a forward. Take mark. Kick goal.

I tend to support my club’s decisions. The Koch bashing is stupid. He has been great for us. God I feel for Primus because Hinkley was given every support and I truely suspect assistants had more to do with his success. Wilson’s remarks are denegrating in support of an east coast AFL media favourite. My only real issue with Hinkley is the threat to go to GCS and us buckling - and I am now convinced that has more to do with MEDIA PR and the potential for him to take players with him.

He's responsible for giving Ken a billion extensions.

For that he should be removed from his position.
