This all relies on Hinkley being happy to step away (which he isn't) or going to the SUNS (which he won't because Hardwick will be their man, which was the whole premise of my post).

Yeah, Hardwick saying he ‘misses coaching’ was obviously code for ‘back up the truck, someone’. And we all know what the AFL are prepared to do for their northern tilts: Alastair Lynch, Ron Barassi, Tony Lockett, Fitzbane, Karmichael Hunt, Palestine Falou, and on and on.

How Freo goes over the coming weeks will be interesting though. They’ve shown they’re prepared to be equally ruthless in the pursuit of a highly-credentialed coach.

How are we 100% convinced it’s all Carr though?
I also don’t think it’s 100% Carr

Of course, it’s not 100% Carr. It never is.

He wouldn’t be able to start the changes to begin with. The other assistants also have their own inputs.

Moreover, as weakened as Hinkley’s authority may be, he’s still the HC. It’s not in name only. Even if he was forced to adopt changes, he still has the last word. He must concur with everything.

The question here is on the weight of Carr on the changes. Being the midfield coach, new at the club, and looking at what happened with Freo, one can at least assume that he may be the main contributor.

If the assumption is correct, that’s another matter. It’s reasonable, though.

It's not 100% Carr there's also the benefit of Hinkley not being in the coaches box.

I dont get the pile on with Caro

She probably has one board member in her ear who was pushsing to sack dew for clarko and then was successful this year

Do we really expect Journos to run at 100%?

I suspect they were keen to sack Dew for Clarkson but they got an indication somehow that Clarkson wasn't keen. This year substitute 'Hardwick' for 'Clarkson' and 'wasn't keen' for 'is keen' and here we are.

She's had Ken up there as well at certain stages, she'd be lucky to run at 50% tbh.

She's only just come out of hiding from her last bullshit story that was called out.

Palestine Falou 😂

Having a top 10 afl h&a winning streak record and still not making the grand final is a new level of peak hinkley

The ways in which God tries to test our sanity with different types of hinkley sacking safe guards is historic

He escapes sackings like a port member used a monkey claw in 2012 and wished for port to be good again 😆 🤣

Hardwick has to want to go to the Suns. I just don't think he wants to put himself through the whole "rags to riches" 5-10 year plan all over again. I have nothing to base this on, but i think Hinkley will end up there.
Was on your page as the blues have you guys next week and ended up on here.

Fwiw I was at a lunch with the Australian Hotels Association three weeks ago and an SEN journo was the guest speaker, speaking mainly about his recent controversies, who said Hardwick will not coach in the Victorian bubble if he couches next year and will probably be at the Suns.

I love how they point to this streak like, “REEEEE, HE’S MAKING YOU LOOK SCHTOOPID!!111”

But when we pointed to 2015-2019, 2022, and the 2021 Prelim, it was “awww nahhhhh” and every fanciful, tenuous, chode-chomping rationale but the results.

The one-on-one real time player-whispering and active instruction from the bench has clearly been a net benefit in isolation, versus the status quo.

How long that boost lasts without getting stale (we’re yet to endure a tough run where that could get annoying for frustrated players low on confidence and belief) is a lingering question we probably won’t get answered before the ultimate decision is made, for better or worse. Leaning ‘worse’.

I also don’t think it’s 100% Carr and rather a combination of younger, more tactically astute coaches (Bassett in particular) allowed to ‘cook’ without being overruled or subject to enforced paralysis now that the boss is on secondment. I have some decent mail regarding the latter point, but I appreciate this will be taken as apocryphal.

Yeah, as I’ve always maintained, the talent has never been the issue. For me, there’s just far too much smoke regarding the wholesale changes that occurred after the horror fortnight of R2/R3 to believe Ken retains anything like the stranglehold on operations that he had prior.

It’s been 13 weeks of the sort of ‘shackles have been released’, ‘fresh voice’, ‘trying new things’, ‘struggling favourite(s) banished’ refresh usually associated with an outright sacking.

Fair enough, but the thread is branded pretty clearly, and I reckon most of it mid-streak (ie El Scorcho, Schulzenfest) is tongue-in-cheek with the wider point being the dude still needs to vamoose.

I reckon their might be a few on here that will need to buckle up for the ride over the next few weeks, because all roads are leading to a contract extension for me. I really hope they wait until after finals to see how that plays out but wouldn’t be surprised if august 1st we receive the news.

It’s going to be very interesting if we start losing a few too.

You cannot lose by appointing a favourite son (Carr) to the senior job. Even the most devout Hinkley lovers would come around eventually, if not straight away. Plus it has the added bonus of dragging the rest of us back out of our slums and re-engaging.
Yes but poor Gerard Whateley will be upset that we were meanies to his friend :(

We wont get so lucky next year, 6 of our wins were by under 10 points or less, at total of 32 points in those 6 wins.

I know all you have to do is win and qualify for finals but imo we are not quite as good as people may think, we are a good side but not GF material just yet, so i believe we will drop a few spots on the ladder unless a new head coach can inject that winning feeling into the team as we see happen so many times before, while we have some very good talent, now is the time for that new coach.
Then again maybe just maybe we will do a Collingwood and destroy the competition.. 🧐

Tbf Ken has done a lot more than Dew
i dont think so, Dew was handed a position where he was never going to succeed, If you add lynch, may, prestia, rankine, saad, dixon etc to his list then he would most probably have a had a decent team to work with. Everyone knew that job was always going to end in tears, he would have to do all the heavy lifting and then get the knife. The next coach will reap the benefits. The guy that has kept Ken in the job is Cripps, he's given him the best list he possibly could and any other coach would have won at least 1 premiership by now and most probably 2. But thats ok we should all be grateful that Ken has blessed us with his presence because were just a local club that dont know what they are doing.
