Didn’t have surgery

The plan was for him to have complete rest for a few weeks to see if the problem settled before deciding whether to resume training or operate. Had he gone for surgery it would likely have been season ending

Obviously the rest worked and he was able to start training ready to play this week having ticked off the necessary boxes
IIRC on top of the bone stress he had in his knee, he also had some cartilage damage which required a minor procedure to clean up. Because of the bone stress that was already there he required a period of rest anyway so the operation didn't set him back very much.

No WCE v Carlton at Subi. One of the best games of footy you will see. If you can watch it, the result isn't great, obviously, but the football was wonderful. Bloody brutal, but that's not why I think it was so good. 2 elite sides.
Carlton got real belief after that game, with one of the best sides you'll ever see. Coach Parkin.
Koutagod, terrific.
Edit Kouta being torched by young Gehrig early and moved off him.
IIRC Gehrig was the next big hope...expectations by fans back then was kinda ridiculous/entitled.
Happy the G train eventuated after that.
Became a monster FF, but was a Hercules/Kouta prototype early days.
Introverted bloke, glad he got to his potential, unfortunately not our club
Yep outside of finals, that’s the best live footy game I’ve seen, 2 teams at their peak going hell for leather, absolute ripper game.
I was 23 years old watching on the half forward flank, standing room only with a skin full and surrounded by Blues supporters, ****ing loved it! You can certainly handle losing when you know the players have given everything they can.

With Reid, Sheed and Kelly* all set to be available this week, and no injuries from either the WAFL or AFL games so far this weekend (as far as we know), we should have the shortest injury list we've had in a very long time this week.

Only Hewett, Bazzo and Long unavailable - 42 of a possible 45 players on the list available.

Of those three, you'd probably say Hewett and Long are best 23 when fit, so next week against the Hawks we should get as close to our best 23 as we'll probably get all year.

It will also mean we'll have up to 19 AFL-listed players in the WAFL - a massive number which AFAIK we've never really gotten close to. There will be some stiff WAFL-listed Eagles missing out.

Of course there's usually some mid-week injury surprises that we'll have to deal with. But on the whole things are looking really positive injury-wise, and it's a credit to our fitness staff for conditioning these guys over preseason to get them through a full season like we're seeing.

*Assuming both Sheed and Kelly get up from their respective injuries - both were listed as 1 week away in last week's injury update. Even if Kelly doesn't get up, it's still a very healthy list.

I don't think Simpson has ever had this many players are choose from. It's quite fascinating.

Four dudes on the injury list with one being listed as the remainder of the season. This has to be some sort of 10 year record for the club for this time of the year. Outstanding effort by the medico staff this year. Top tier job.
It also hasn't really gotten too bad all year as well. it's been consistently good even at it's worst. It was just unfortunate that the few injuries we did get were to good players during the roughest spots.

i'll take a 46 second medico report every week please.

There was a fair degree of frustration early this year when players still seemed to be getting injured and scepticism when Pyke stressed that things were fine as they were trying to build durability into the players to last the season

We now have a single soft tissue injury. The others are a knee injury resulting from a crude tackle, a player with a historic foot injury that he had before getting to the club which has now close to being resolved and an OP style injury that has proven stubborn to get right

As you say it’s been a long time since we’ve had this type of injury list this far into a season. S&C staff deserve a pat on the back

Very happy to hear both Bazzo and Hewett are 2-3 away. both should get game time before the end of the season.
Sets them both up perfectly to attack pre-season and be ripe for a good 2025 assuming no set-backs.

“Dom had a good training session on Saturday. As he was getting up to high speed he had a little bit of awareness, so for that reason he won’t play this week so we’ll reassess after the next couple of days and see where he’s at,” Inness said.
