Review Slow starting Cats come storming home to defeat Tigers by 30 points

Yes! There is absolutely + utterly no way anyone could argue against that logic. Einstein would have no infallible argument to dispute it.
That is how my (relatively new to footy) wife looks at our chances. Utterly ridiculous (except she has beaten me in four of the last five tipping comps!).

Yep. I think finding a way to win centre clearances will help massively. It’s easier to apply pressure if we get on the front foot.
We just need to pray Danger stays injury free when he comes back.
Our mid set ups are evolving.
We are certainly throwing numbers in there and experimenting with structure.
At times we can be far too defensive and are second to the ball , other times we set up without a defensive sweep and allow the ball to come out and progress easily.
We looked great in the second half when we got clean possession , need to study how that came about and build.
Conway is coming along , running out games well and competing against some hardened opponents.
Once he gets stronger and learns more we will have a great chance to win more first possession from ruck contests.

Bit of work to do for the mid coaches and group - excited to see where we are at in 10 weeks time.

What was up with mannagh last night do you have any mail on that?
Just genuine holdover. I don’t know why he didn’t play a quarter or a half like they have before (although all of those players…Dempsey, Clark, Knevitt have been younger so maybe they didn’t want to risk 26 yo in case he was needed). No mail on anyone they were worried about so a true “just in case”.

I am truely hoping (but not holding my breath) that it also is a sign he has been freshened up for AFL next week…(no mail just a hope).

I would expect we “manage” 2E next week and looks like we may have 2 injuries (Henry and one of Kolo/Stewart). I think we could also look to omit 1 or 2?

Reckon max 2 of the 3 MF players available (Danger, Blitz, Clark) get a gig next week so for the first time for a while I am confident/hopeful (no mail) that Mannagh could (should) get a call up

Out: Henry, Kolo, 2E, Conway
In: Blitz, Clark, Mannagh, Stanley

Stanley for Conway I reckon will happen for pure management (understanding Stanley only got a half but…) and 2E managed (but really omitted) again.

I could see a MOC omitted for a COS (to replace Kolo) but I haven’t worked through match ups yet.

But has to be likely Mannagh gets a spot. Given Dempsey showing good forward form I suspect they go with Jezza on the wing again so still a spot in forward line for Mannagh (although he could also be sub)

Why was a ball that hit the behind post video reviewed last night? It had zero implications for the score.

To check if it hit the post on the full or on the bounce

On the bounce is a throw in
On the full is a free kick to Richmond

Better option would have been for Stengle to not take the snap shot and let Conway go back for a kick on goal

I think they were trying to work out whether on the full or throw in. But frankly they could review a dozen close ones around the ground (ie. did it hit the line or not) each round if they start doing that. And when you see the replay the only sure thing I could see was that the boundary umpire was in perfect position and was the only one who could possibly know whether it bounced first.

Should not have been reviewed. Play the game

I won’t labour my views on Hardie, but just to say that we have been destroyed in the middle for most of the year with far better players than Hardie who, if they played VFL, would get just much if not more ball than him.
Probably; but I'm not as convinced the path is that linear.

O'Connor played no VFL the week before either though

Was there concerns that week or just keeping him fresh for last night?

Henry has talent. Just feel he needs a different role. One that gets him more involved in the play. Maybe a winger who spends time up foward as an occassional marking option ala Menegola. Or maybe an attacking half back flank role like ken hinkley/mick mansfield/Paul Brown (players who also started as marking fowards but were too small for the role)

Not for me. He gets beaten up on the wing- he has a chink in his game under pressure. Many times he has drifted down, and not strong/alert enough in more dangerous area for turnovers. I'm not potting Henry, we need him, he just shows more at home F50, and we have better wing players. Subsequently- No way in defence either. One of these days he'll save a game for us with goal kicking.

Agree Blicavs no good these days as a midfielder, but Jack Henry up forward is not a good idea. He is ok as a medium backman. He has straight line speed but is not agile enough for a forward role.
Yep. He is purely a 4th qtr switch as Hail Mary. His forward power is “who is this guy” surprise and it has worked - but needs to be very rare to keep the suprise!

The umps were unsure if it hit the post on the full, in which case:
‘If the ball hits a behind post without bouncing it is deemed "out on the full" and the opposing team takes a free kick from next to the behind post.’

I think the later. Just for those slightly older guys they see no value in playing VFL half. For the younger guys on hold backs they see it as better than full rest and in unlikely (very unlikely) event of (unexpected) late change they are going to be sub anyway - and are young!

Up until last night our holdover has always been a “managed” mid age or older player to freshen up. I am hoping it is a good sign for Mannagh they are expecting him to play AFL next week - but don’t know

He plays tall and when the forwardline is stacked with other tall forwards he becomes a non factor. Was very very poor to select so many tall forwards.

He needs to develop a contested/ground ball game and that is best done at VFL level with small stints through the midfield rather than afl. He clearly has talent but he certainly likes to run to where the ball won't go.

Thanks for that, was unaware, learn something each week.
You can tell that Conway is developing confidence- often looks to hand pass rather than trust a bomb, that he can load as a good kick. Something tells me they've encouraged him to play safe, work in progress, those big guys can be awkward.
More power to him.

Yeah it is a score review system, not a throw in / OOBOTF review system. Otherwise why not review every potential OOBOTF?
