Stevie G was just unceremonially dumped as Villa manager barely into the season with the club not even in the relegation zone.

No one cares, no one calls into question the club culture, they simply see it as a club determined for greater success.

This is where we need to get to, it's just business.

Bet Merrick won't be out moaning about it either.
What we did to Ratten was pretty poor, I think it's okay to hold the club to account sometimes. Yes it's in his contract and yes it was what we needed but to show faith in a guy and give him 2 years and then backtrack on it in less than 100 days is pretty distasteful.

As supporters were obviously glad the mistake was rectified but I can absolutely see why some would call it unprofessional or disgraceful.

I've got a funny feeling Max is going to have a wake up call. He's been coasting along so far on the value of his potential, the highlights of his short career and the fact that he's a Saints man through and through. That's not going to be enough for Ross. No sacred cows in the Lyon cage.

Seriously, the bullshit on this thread started ankle deep and now i can barely breathe.

This thread has been wild
One of our best in a long time. Old posters returning, everyone for the most part genuinely getting along with one another. Been a great vibe on here the last week or so.

It's wild how many new (and old) names are popping up. When I say the club is getting its soul back, it's this reaction that I'm referring to. There are so many names that I haven't seen for years that are coming out of the woodworks to talk St Kilda. It's awesome.

Agree mate I have really enjoyed it on here for the reasons you mention

It was kind of awkward.
Ratten had wanted to know what was happening, which is fair enough, most people would like to know if they will be employed next year.

The club had promised to let him know mid-year.
So mid year comes and team is looking pretty damn good.

Even if they had their doubts, what are the options , tell him you aren't decided? He'd probably think the worst , so we are risking derailing what looked like a promising season. ( Turns out it derailed anyway ).
Sack him then. Mid season while the team is looking good? What would the media have said then?
Sign him up and he gets an extra 6 month pay. I don't begrudge him that at all.
Slam us all you want media knobs , we chose to pay Ratten, 6 month bonus, and by all accounts he's a good bloke, and he worked hard for the club whether his abilities were up to it or not.

If he took out a loan on a new house , that needed a head coach's salary to service , then we did bad by him, but i doubt if he was that stupid.

The old 8 game rule. If a manager hasn’t got them going by then, they are pretty much guaranteed not to.

Agreed - hope the club is strong enough to own mistakes move on and develop.

He's being taught bad habits and really dumb structure so far. Ross will make him a much more valuable player....even if he possibly has less ball go through him.

Why? If you don't do your job to expectations you generally get fired, no matter what contract you sign. That's life...

Would you be completely fine after getting a promotion at your job and then getting fired within 3 months?

"We'd like to announce our new coach, a great of the game, experienced coach, a man who's seen grand finals, with a proven ability to give players what they need to go beyond their limits. Welcome to the St Kilda Football Club - James Hird!"
Huge news. Thoughts Barrels ?

Why? I love Max as much as any of us but there were at least 5 times this year I yelled at him to stop whining at his teammates because his own 2nd effort was terrible. There would be some down the ground vision that if our new coach sees might see some paint stripped...
