I'm not saying he shouldn't have been sacked I'm saying the club should've handled it much better.

It's pretty simple for me, there were better ways to deliver his termination and whilst it's all what we wanted it still looks pretty poor if you look at it objectively.

I get what you're saying and in a perfect world I would've hoped for the same but the way the industry operates tells me that it was never an actual reality. We were never going to wait until, say, the last month of the season before deciding on his contract. Bassat & Lethers explained what had happened during last weeks presser, in that they agreed to give him some certainty at the mid-point of the season. You'd have to trawl through history to find an out of contract coach that was extended as late as some here wanted Ratten to be.

If they had infact been reviewing his position for a month and it wasn't looking good, they should've told him a lot earlier than 4 days from when he was told he was sacked. I am glad we rectified the mistake and are moving forward but it's still pretty unprofessional and I think criticism about it is warranted.
How could they have handled Ratts sacking any better ?

What would have been a better way to deliver his termination in your opinion George if we all agree that renewing his mid year contract was a mistake?

One pretty simple change for me would be to let him know more than 4 days out from the announcement that they had been reviewing his position given they had been reviewing his position for a month.

First world probs.
I think it's healthy to criticise the club when they deserve it, and plenty of people feel they do for the way they handled it. I'm happy it's done but obviously can see how some can see it for the poor way in which it was handled.

First world problems is a poor cop-out, it should've been handled better.

What we did to Ratten was pretty poor, I think it's okay to hold the club to account sometimes. Yes it's in his contract and yes it was what we needed but to show faith in a guy and give him 2 years and then backtrack on it in less than 100 days is pretty distasteful.

As supporters were obviously glad the mistake was rectified but I can absolutely see why some would call it unprofessional or disgraceful.
As the head coach, he owns the results. The results at the end of the reason were poor.
He can't have had no idea that being sacked was a possibility?

Can only go by what we know and that is that 100 days earlier he received a 2 year extension and once the review was announced he was also told his job was safe. We can admit it was poor from the club, it's okay.

By the sounds there was a falling out after our dismal 2nd half of year and a review was called to make the change, not a very good look after committing to him - they could of just said get us to finals for your next contract.

I'm prepared to move on. Are you?
Lol what? I said I'm happy we made the move but that doesn't change the fact that it looked unprofessional and I think it's fine to discuss it.

I get what your saying about the review. We publicly lied saying it wasn't going to include the head coach and it turned out it did. It is possible the club said that externally to stop the media frenzy and were more transparent internally, ie told Ratts his job was being reviewed. If this isn't the case, then it isn't great.

Regarding the contract extension, initially I thought that was terrible to extend it early and then reneg on it, but Pres explained it well. We extended him to give him confidence and the best chance of success without the contract hanging above his head and can live with the payout knowing they gave Ratts the best chance.

If we take Pres at his word, Ratts would have got notified earlier if we couldn't try and find a different outcome where they could keep Ratts.

I'm just nervous something will go pear shaped until Ross is signed.

See above. Plugger66 as my assistant, to be announced imminently.
If plugger66 is involved then the announcement would be imminent. And then over and over and over again.

Love ya pluggs.

If there was any doubt about Ross being appointed that removes it, King and the rest of the players must have got the word that he's their new coach.
Maybe it hasn't been announced because Ming has yet to sign off?

When you start to think of certain players and how Ross may influence their performance is when it becomes pretty bloody exciting for the team. Jack Higgins is an obvious one. You could imagine Ross and Lenny both loving Jack Hayes as a player. Windy, Owens. Definitely excited to see how they'll use Gresh and what he'll be able to add to his game. DMac may well have his best season yet. We know Ross loves the heart and soul types. Somewhat surprisingly to me Mason Wood seems to have become this at the Saints. Consistent performer and won Best Clubman Award this year I believe.

There's been enough said about Hunter Clark but geez just imagine if he gets really fit and confident, could change the dynamic a lot. Coffield seems a bit of an unknown at this point, out of sight, out of mind. Again, fitness and confidence, has huge upside. A potential gun. I also see a chance to salvage Jack Billings' career. We've already seen what Brad Hill was able to do, won his B&F under Ross at Freo.

Some very talented players there I've just mentioned, a few of whom weren't even available this year. It's not hard to see, with a little luck on the injury front, that even minor improvement and continuity from these guys will mean quite a lot to the team. Hopefully improved ball movement through the middle will see big Max benefit up forward with a bit more space to work in.

I could go on and on but really I guess we just have to hope the players buy in to the new gameplan and systems being put in place. The potential for us even next year is very high methinks. Haven't been this excited for the start of a new season for a long time!

And yes, I'm calling it early, Jack Higgins All-Australian 2023.

And I argued that Ratts got extended since it was obvious Rath gets downgraded or sideways, Gags was shipping off and Lethers was CEO swap over so why spill the coaches box minus Enright and review the rest in isolation? Kinda half arsing it in the process basically. Took the whole Ratts' job was safe as utter BS for public consumption to be all "steady ship nothing to see here" aka that media frenzy angle. You do this because at the time you're 8-3, you made the commitment to decide at that point, so you public back and when shit hits the fan you "we kept our end of the bargain, defend yo'self" when reviewing, as all contracts have an out and it depends if you are willing to simply cop it in the end.

I don't get the unprofessional angle, by all accounts everyone was on speaking terms and last I checked "all" included well, everything. AFL might piss on wording in documents when hands of god do a reach around, but ever since the Summers swap over, club has been slowly but surely edging towards "this is the wording, EAD" as rule of thumb instead of wondering what six letter words are and why numbers have dot points.

Evidently Lyon wants too many South Market Dims Sims as part of his package and Plugger66 would either miss out, or Lyon would have to make do with less.

So Bassat has to decide who he wants to be the thinnest. Lyon or P66!

I saw the McVeigh rumour, but then almost immediately saw one about Amon Buchanan. Recently forwards coach at GWS. Ross would have coached him at Sydney. I used to get Buchanan and Schneids mixed up before Schneids came to us. Experienced assistant and knows Ross. Probably a decent rumour.

Love it.

Currently in Paris and on the flight over I paid $3.50 for 20mb of data just so I could ask my girlfriend if we'd signed Ratten yet.

The fact we haven't is ridiculous and I feel the club owes me that $3.50 back.
