There are better coaches out there. I still thought the extension was sensible. But if they think we need a change then so be it.

I just hope they know what they’re doing. Lethlean and Bassat have been making big decisions for a few years and have a lot of responsibility here.

List needs work. It’s solid but not good enough to win a flag and Lethlean has presumably been involved in most list decisions. I’m more concerned about the list than the coach.

I think Roos, Ross, or Williams and a successor is really what we need.

None of the three mentioned are long term solutions but the can help create a culture of sustained success, and this club needs stability.

Succession plans are one of the weirdest concepts.

Just appoint the bloke you think is best and give them as long as they need until they win or fail.

No reason Ross can’t coach for 10+ At his age

Were you tearing up memberships when the mistake was made, or just now that it's been corrected?

I get that a mistake was made. But why the anger now sanity has prevailed?

The alternative was to waste more time and do more damage.

Again, yes, a mistake was made... and people should be held accountable, but surely there can be some relief that we're back on track.

Thats all that I want... that's my issue here. The assessment of the footy club has been at polar opposites every mid to post season correspondence.

Now we are getting it in terms of the senior coach contract extension and now dismissal.

Thats all I want accountability and more smarts.

Ratts wasn't up to it but I think we have far bigger issues and the president ain't it. Lethers ain't it. The list manager ain't it.

With the way, footy has changed he would need a complete overhaul of his philosophy.

His Freo and old St Kilda game plans would end up looking worse than what we dished out with Ratts this year.

He has never been overseen with someone like Walsh over him and supported with someone like Rath alongside him.

I’d still argue a new coach bounce like that is the exception. Not the rule.

There just really isn’t a standout untried candidate and the experienced ones have obvious warts and warnings. If there was - we wouldn’t have posters all wanting so many different people.

I agree mate I think McRae will have a much harder 2nd year in charge, we will see but at the moment can only go on what is infront of us and they look really good, a complete turnaround from finishing 17th the year prior.

Look I'm okay with tried as long as it's in a succession plan and as long as that doesn't involve rolling out Hird Malthouse Bolton or any other clown. Buckley is alright, at least he would demand a level of professionalism. I don't know many others fit for that type of role other than Roos and Lyon but to me they both come on as mentors and the senior coach comes in fresh. Hopefully we have some kind of idea in about 15 minutes

I may be different from a few here in my view but I don't want us going after Buckley or Lyon or a majority of the experienced AFL coaches.

Leppitsch would be my only exception.

Look at how Collingwood was playing last year under Buckley with essentially the same list. They literally couldn't score, it was terrible to watch.

Going for someone who's experienced and a known quantity rules us out of finding the next great coach IMO.

I've always felt Ratts was just too nice a bloke, wouldn't make the hard decisions because he didn't wanna offend anyone.

Some players need a kick up the ass to get the most out of them and some need a cuddle. I think Ratts was just a cuddle type coach.
