Look at it this way. No AFL coach has won a flag at their second club (having not won a flag at their first) for 30 years. Nothing to suggest Ratten was going to change that. So why keep him around?

I know little about Yze. Where's he been and why do people like him as coach?

Was brought in just before their Premiership from Hawks and, while Goodwin and Choco were on the boundary, he was the main man calling the shots from the box. That’s a great apprenticeship right there.

In the year he came, they went from a team that played remarkably like us (horrendous forward 50 entries, playing on at the wrong times, predictable) to a team with a beautifully choreographed defensive zone and a much smarter way of moving the ball.

He’s a perfect appointment if we do it as his experience with Melbourne matches our needs beautifully. He would need to fix up the same sort of issues, and deal with a club that hadn’t experienced success for a long time.
