Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

I am wondering if there's a slight contradiction.
Many people are happy to take Collard because he's obviously very high talented. Could be a jet, but questions about consistency and a flight risk (for interstate sides)
Essentially the risk of being Jarrod Cameron II as has been slated on here.

Yet Ashton Moir is in the same boat and most people don't want him when he could be taken signifcantly later.

Why? Is it just a matter of Collard's upside being, in your views, far higher, or is it the lack of any progress from Moir this year the concern?
#1 Moir was never a top 5 talent
#2 Collard has the classic small forward ability (pace & kicks goals) and has played a lot as a mid too. Which is great as a junior to be better than 90%, but at AFL playing as a small fwd is a death sentence. You may only get 3 chances a game and have to have everything in order to thrive. Mentally it's a lot of work for little result which is why a lot bomb out IMO.

Shai Bolton even though I think he is wasteful, was still maybe another 50 % productive as Collard for comparison.

On Moir he is just another medium fwd who has found stepping up too hard🤷 A later pick as he kicks goals but doesn't bring a lot else to the table.

Don't think ever i've heard the term "generational talent" thrown around as much as it has this year

The hype has been off the chain

I just hope fans give Reid time to settle and adjust to AFL without placing ridiculous expectations on him

Love that draft !

I would be so stoked .

Reid obviously best talent in the draft .

Collard and ZZ both lightning quick with huge ceilings

Mcauliffe is an inside mid we are in need of positionally

The 2 NGAs are long shots but happy to get them for nothing
Isn't Mcauliffe an over ager? We don't have a happy history of drafting over age mids......Ainsworth, Brayshaw
Also Cully in a sense but that's not quite the same and he obviously projects better

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

go back 18 months and Moir was being put up as a top 5 by a large number of posters so I’d be interested to what you thought last year

Bunch of echoes.

Projected roughly 20-30 as a leadup fwd, one of those handy 2nd round types rather than anyone who you target as a top 10 or 5. With a good year could potentially be around 10 and a poor year anywhere 3rd round onwards.
He's actually been worse this year than when he was 17 which is massive Brander vibes.

Same with Sid Draper. Won't go top 5, more likely is just around 20-25.

I agree with what you have said but, additionally, I also don't like Moir's running patterns as I just don't think he works hard enough in this regard.

He IMO, would benefit from being started as a HBF, where firstly he has to be accountable for his opponents movements and positioning and then as he develops as a player he can become an attacking asset with his run and carry, that way making the most out of his exceptional foot skills.

Monocle exposed as Mick Malthouse. Exactly what happened with Chris Yarran. Man he was a promising junior, close to the most in that draft but never really got there. Pity because he had it all skill wise going in

I reckon this is spot on. Managers is talking to clubs and maybe they are going cold so he's trying to create some hype

He also sounded like a sooky emotional douche if I’m honest. Really didn’t rate that chat from Jason as a player Manager. I actually think Curtin should slide from projected top 10, and that doesn’t necessarily make him more enticing to us. I couldn’t care less he’s from WA. Decent prospect no doubt, but not desperate at what will be the asking to get at him. I think we keep our draft hand and ultimately steer clear - because any move for Curtin will result in some sort of net loss involving future picks. I think he’ll be good not great, never a mid and perhaps end up looking a little slow at the next level.

At this stage of our rebuild, and holding a decent draft hand this year, I say we make the most of that and don’t trade any future stabs at the draft away from here on in. Next year shaping as really solid too

Having watched his U18's, I'd say Curtin's a first-rounder, but would have him around the 15 mark, personally.

The whole top-3 hype around him was unfortunately synthetic noise produced by the East to get us to swap Curtin for Reid. Pretty rough on Curtin to have that much pumping from the media when they don't really rate him a top-3, and then sounds like his manager has done him no favours either.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him really struggle in his first couple of years.

He'll probably have a fine career, but won't be a marquee player like Pavlich if that's who he thinks he'll be.

Correct.

April this year Moir ranked #2 in this article and others, Mitch Edwards the other massive slider across most rankings. But of course we all knew better now…

The purples might be placed to swoop on a sliding Curtin with their bundle of further firsts

I think Curtin will be a really good player, but us or the purples will have to dramatically overpay to get him. We're essentially giving up a top 2 pick next year if we trade him and I'm not sure we'll get too much back in change if anything.

Phil, ATG, Monocle and ECE will be far better placed to know whether in next year's crop that's the right price to pay. From what I've read from them, it's a compromised draft again via academy and F/S bids, but it's more midfield heavy.

Ignore all the crap from Jason Dover, he's not impartial, he's spruiking his client and trying to get us or Purple to trade in for him as a potential once in a lifetime bargain.
He knows full well we aren't using 1 on him.

This is a roundabout way of saying yes I agree kinda, but Melbourne may decide the purple offerings aren't weighted heavily enough in their favour.

Seems to be overlooked from time to time but any club trading away their live pick for a future is not forced to do so. It's the same position as us with pick 1. They're not going to do the trade for a 'fair' return.

We will have to pony up overs just as we would demand overs to part with pick 1. I genuinely don't see a scenario where we swap our F1 for a live pick in the top ~7 this year and get any steak knives coming back in that deal.

The overall calculations of bringing in Curtin this year instead of a top 3 Vic Metro mid next year must be balanced against the benefit we get of accelerating our rebuild by accessing genuine talent 12 months earlier, and then we cross fingers and hope that talent fulfills a role for a long time.

Equally the other club will expect fair compensation for delaying their access to the top talent for 12 months, which would mean improving their eventual access to the best talent next year.

Sorry for Poonsplaining this but some of the theoretical pick swaps are just never going to happen.

The Eagles grab someone who had a great U16 year then did jack s**t when it counts.

Eagles fans: What * is wrong with this club!?

Also Eagles fans: dRaFt MoIr
He also had a hip injury all year.
Remember when Darren Glass, one of our best ever defenders had a hip injury? He got beaten week in week out and couldn't compete. Could be a factor why a 17 year old kid had a crap season

For the sake of pick 37 or 58, I reckon we can cop that risk myself.
Unless you have a better idea oh enlightened one?

I don’t recall a phantom draft/draft ranking all year that hasn’t had Curtin in the top 5 or 6.

Reid and Walter have consistently been top 2 then it was Watson/McKercher/Curtin rounding out the top 5 initially. As the season went on Duursma has pushed into that group usually at the expense of Watson. Caddy was sometimes top 5 but he’s also drifted a little

So I think you’re being harsh on Curtin and it wouldn’t be a surprise if North take him with one of their picks
