No.

A mature mid who is proven is a must. Non negotiable. The midfield got slaughtered all year. Let's not sugar coat it. These kids are miles off it.
We also had a ****ton of injury’s in our midfield and players like RCD and Ross are at the stage where VFL games won’t really help development anymore
Got to play them at some point and now is the time while we have some great experienced bodies around them

You don’t have to look too far:

Isaac Smith was excellent for Geelong - 32yo at start of 2021. Tarrant comparatively is 8-months older when he plays for Tigers.

Stefan Martin has been a vital cog in a flag push. 34yo at start of 2021. How’s that acquisition looking … might be a Premiership ruckman.

Mumford coming out of retirement at 34yo to help GWS. A massive part of their finals appearance and victory. Not a trade, but a shrewd selection that filled a need.

Hodge to Brisbane when 33yo. Outstanding leader who guided a young team to finals.

Anyway…there’s 4 players of similar age in just the last few years who cannot be denied were hugely successful acquisitions.

All great examples.

The Dogs' form reversal since Martin came back in speaks for itself about his worth to them and Brisbane have missed him, though I can also understand why they let him go.

Can't stiffle the development of the youngsters with limited established players coming in. Thats another reason why we go to the draft to provide enough room to grow for everybody.

Trying to get higher up the draft makes more sense than chasing established types. Look at Nank as a prospect and what he did in year one let alone after and he was a big to, Nank was only young when we got him.

Italics - Cat B rookie
Bold - Free Agency Acquisition

Still Unsigned for 2022

As it stands we have 29 senior listed and 5 rookie listed(4 Cat A /1 Cat B) players signed for 2022 with Tarrant to become, 30th, official on October 1st. If we re-sign Miller and Stack our rookie list will be full. If we re-sign Cumberland & Nyoun we will have the ability to take 6 picks in the draft.

Don't be surprised to see Jack Graham step up this year, we might all be very surprised.

last few games of the year he was cruising around the ground nicely. Looked super fit and obviously had the green light to kick it more

Zac Bailey looked miles off it last year for the lions but stepped up , Shai Bolton in 2019 etc etc
Think you need more confidence in our players and development

Thought he was definitely gonna join us from listening to the info from the tigercast. Wonder what happened
maybe, just maybe, podcasters have nfi whats actually happening

less than 1% of 'take it to the bank' trade/fa recruits spruiked on this site ever come true

You dont believe any of our young mids in Dow , RCD , Ross , Martyn , Hugo , Cumberland after another preseason has the ability to take the next step upto the level ? Also with 5 picks and most likely 2-3 mids any will show something ?

Im a bit more optimistic and believe we will have min 2-3 that will surprise

I want to believe but they all got some taste this season and performed according to expectations with glimpses in parts but not enough to carry a full game let alone a season. It all comes down to club's approach. if we are pushing for another flag then we need a mid who we can plug and play while the young ones also get some taste and experience.

if 2022 clicks, then in 2023 we will be very well placed as RCD, marty, dow etc would have matured plus the drafts we pick up this year would also have had a taste (specially top pick)!

I understand trading for a mid takes a spot from one of those kids but i dont see these kids ready to take on a full season just yet. Perhaps the club thinks otherwise and hence not going after a midfielder.

Exciting times ahead regardless

RCD doesn't have that far to go. He just needs to get fitter just like Iliver and Petracca did at his age. Ross has been stuffed around so much not sure it is that or ability. Time will tell. Nobody at Richmond other than maybe Prestia will go head to head right now with Bont, Petracca and Oliver, in the peak of their powers, a few years ago maybe. But to see Bolton, Ross, RC, maybe Stack and of course Martin, Prestia, Edwards and Cotch still in the mix but sharing it about will be much more interesting and probably more capable. The way they brushed aside Port and Geelong's mids reminded me of us in 2017/18.
I’d be using our first two pics on best mids available the leading sides have put space on us , we need to rejuvenate the midfield with top end talent then go a couple of kpp we can park and develop

Do we look at Luke Dunstan on minimum chips??
Has the capacity to get his hand on the pill 25-30 times a game and has some genuine campaigner about him. Yes he’s not the most skilled player but can do a lot of grunt work and even shut down opposition players (dusty)

wouldn’t want to give up much though.

Treloar would have been a handy pick up.

Not shocked he and the dogs in the gf, stacked midfield
yep,hes the ace in the pack for saturday imo,its all set up for him to cause mayhem,25 possesions and 8 x I50's along with a coupla majors im tipping
if any campaigner should be steeled for this day its him, backing him for the normie too

Did you see Ross game against Hawks ? Hugo glimps with his goals and RCD in the midfield when given time and Dow with his hands and vision ?
They are kids in their 2-4 years that have had virtually 0 game time last 2 years and with another 6 months of training and game simulations as well as more physical development anything can happen as it did with Bolton,Baker,Balta and even Chol this year

Yes anything can happen but the kids need gametime and training. As you said no vfl has halted thier progress and it’ll be tough to judge them next season! We may get a surprise but i am not overly optimistic just yet

Anyone hear anything about James Harmes? Not sure if BS but hearing we are into him
