is he a ruck, a forward, or another Chol/CCJ that isn't dominant at either? I'd take him on the limited bits I've seen with the obvious caveats of not seeing his weak points or awareness of other issues.

Ladhams is a very high possession ruckman who is normally one grab, good on the ground, fast reactions and good disposal skills. He is listed as 95kgs which is light for a 202cm player. This probably gives a clue as to why he isn’t the best tap ruckman, also not a brutal pack crasher, so those look to be his downsides.

I would say if anything he is as co-ordinated and skilful as say Nankervis, if not moreso. Just nowhere near as assertive in contests. So he is probably a very talented player but a bit of a square peg type.

I don’t know James personally but his old man moved in similar sporting circles to me and he always came across as a decent bloke. I’d be surprised if James was as you put it, "a sh*t bloke."
Just because someone looks like a bit of a knob, doesn't mean they are one... Decent player at the right price.

Harmes, don’t mind that - good inside mid but starved of opportunity to play that role behind Oliver and Petracca

Only got about 50% game time - would need to look at why - but on his figures for 50% game time he goes OK!

You gotta laugh, some deadset drama queens in here.
Bit of faith in a list manager and recruiting team that have delivered 3 flags in 5 years
Im all for getting Tarrant because it such a huge and obvious need.but fmd list management and recruiting are the reason why we have to go out and get Tarrant at 32.

I think our succession planning in a few areas should have been better.

FFS we have Balta at a good pick #25 but we hoped he was a fwd to start with.Thank god he has ended up a defender because we would be up the creek totally with Astbury gone. our better big kpds Rance 18, Balta 25 and Astbury 33. theres a message there. hmm and our investments since

We invest 63 Miller 72 Garthwaite and 54 Nyuon and we wonder why there has been so little coming thru in this area.We have had years to do something about this and done little a few token picks hoping for a diamond in the rough.

Im gunna keep saying it yes the current establishment has got three flags and done most things right but to just say and intimate that they have got everything right is a plain nonsense.

Why can't we question the few things they have got wrong?

From what I can tell after quickly looking into it, he is best as a midfielder and wants to play as midfielder but is shuffled around. Some weeks will play predominately midfield other weeks HF/Midfield.

They play him defensive mid and get just 50% game time usually - subs off for long periods.

He's a great runner. Seems a waste to leave a high endurance player sitting on the bench.

Agree, there is something not adding up with his TOG

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick believes outgoing Tiger Mabior Chol “probably needs a change” but says Callum Coleman-Jones’ recent trade request was “disappointing”.

Hardwick on Monday night spoke about the recent trade developments involving the tall Tigers duo, as well as the likely acquisition of North Melbourne free agent Robbie Tarrant and the impact he could have at the club.

The Tigers are set to be one of the most active clubs during the off-season, with an already-stacked draft hand set to increase due to the impending departures of Chol and Coleman-Jones.

As reported by foxfooty.com.au last week, Chol has chosen to exercise his free agency rights, with the versatile forward-ruck to join the Gold Coast Suns on a four-year deal.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s AFL 360, Hardwick said it was tough to face the prospect of losing Chol, but suggested it might be the best move for him.
“Mabs has been a friend of ours, my family, and started his journey six years ago. But he’s got a fantastic opportunity, four years up at Gold Coast – and I think he’s only scratching the surface of what he could become,” Hardwick told AFL 360.

“He’s looking forward to the change and I think, in fairness, he probably needs a change as well. But he can be a talent, that lad.”

Multiple reports last week indicated Coleman-Jones, 22, was set to request a trade to North Melbourne.

Hardwick said there was still a bit to play out in Coleman-Jones’ situation, even declaring the out-of-contract Tiger was a “required player”.
“We haven’t actually worked our way through this, but for us he’s a required player. He’s requested a trade to the Kangas, which is disappointing.

Hardwick then cheekily added: “We look forward to receiving Pick 1 coming back our way.”

Chol, 24, has played 31 games for Richmond since being selected as a rookie in late 2015, while Coleman-Jones has managed just nine matches after being taken with Pick 20 in the 2017 national draft.

“It is hard because we’ve been together on a journey,” Hardwick said.
“They just want to play. I can sit there and say ‘listen I can try and try and try’, but the reality is they want to play, every kid – and that’s the challenge (for us) being at the top for a little period of time. We’ve got some players that are capable of playing some regular AFL footy and they just don’t quite get the chance.”

While the Tigers are set to lose the young duo, they’re preparing to welcome gun veteran defender Tarrant, who last week notified North Melbourne officials of his intention to join Richmond as an unrestricted free agent.

Tarrant looms as an ideal replacement for triple premiership defender David Astbury, who retired last month.
“That period is yet to open, the free agency window. But obviously with Dave retiring, we felt we had a need for a bigger body-type defender,” Hardwick said.

“I think that will allow Dylan Grimes and Noah Balta to be a little bit freer down there. Dylan’s done an incredible job ever since the retirement of Alex (Rance) maintaining that back six, but he’s really capable of playing some really damaging footy for us as well getting a little bit higher up the ground.

“I’m really excited by bringing in Robbie that will allow us to explore the avenue of others as well. I think our forwards are pretty keen to get Robbie out of North Melbourne too because he does a hell of a job.

“He’s 32, but he’s missed a lot of footy at the start of this year and we think he’s got some really good footy in front of him.”

Other states have footballers too.
Yep they do but i live in wa and unlike most others around here try to only comment on what i know.
Sometimes othe states other than victoria have better crops of kids coming thru.

By the way Unlike victoria footy in this state has been going on,you want a decent body of work to comment on then its the wa kids.

Amiss and Erasmus in particular are rated not just by wa people but everyone and Van Rooyen is touted as the second best key fwd going around by nearly everyone.

I have long held the belief that wa kids are grossly underrated by the east for no other reason than they are mostly out of sight and out of mind the tyranny of distance eh.

It's a shame we won't get the chance to watch Vic Metro flog the pants off WA.

Then Fremantle draft Cerra and leave Naughton for the doggies
And leave Georgiades for Port after drafting two Victorians.

To be fair, Serong and Young are great talents, but that's back to back drafts Freo ignored generational home grown key forwards in favour of four Victorian small to medium mids/flankers.

And Claw, I'd say with Williams, WA probably has three of the top 4-5 key forward prospects (Darcy, Andrew) but none of them at the level of recent draftees like Naughton, Georgiades, the Kings, Balta, Ugle-Hagan or McDonald.

You mention a good draft hand and loading up for the future, how does a 33 year old factor in that. Loading up for a flag next year maybe, but if we are talking down the track then better off going with Miller, Biggy and someone like Brander i.e. a young discard.
Lol Grrr we are only better off going with Miller Nyuon and Brander if they are up to it. Cmon in all honesty how can you say with any sort of confidence that they are good enough.

At least with Tarrant we know he can play well at the level.

IMO assume the worst and that is neither Miller or Nyuon will make it and my god there is a strong case for this, then taking Tarrant is a no brainer what should also happen is we target with one of our better picks say 26 or 28 a very good kpd in the nd.
At the moment we have 7, 15, 26, 28 probably 38 ccj, possibly 39 Chol, 40 and 44 Fmd if we use em all that really is loading up for the future while covering a huge list weakness in the short term with a proven player thru F/A.

iM NOT SURE WHAT YOUR SO UPSET ABOUT.

As another poster said if Astbury did not retire no one would be complaining. No one would be talking about selling the future or such nonsense. so in effect its out Astbury and in with a similar aged better Tarrant just imagine Tarrants name is Astbury.

Key could be his value.

I do not see Brander as a wingman. Too cumbersome for wing despite his movement, its all relative

He is almost like a tall that plays a little small for his height which really is not a good attribute possibly. So does he do enough in the air or is it simply a case of being pigeon-holed at West Coast? Has he been bluffed by West Coasts' situation/stocks?

He could be a bit of a inbetweener so his cost/value becomes critical.

He might be a bit of a hybrid, KPP/third tall or a very defined mid role at times only for his type.

So his value is his versatility, the role he could play and whether he could fit into RFC's player mix/set-up

Could he be a poor mans Bontempelli in terms of link play, not inside mid and support as a third tall/KPP?
Interested to know how many entire games you have actually seen him play ?

Richmond might be able to use 6 selections, to use 8 would need to see some drastic trading/delisting
  • Houli
  • Naish
  • Coleman-Jones
  • Chol
  • Garthwaite
  • Eggmolesse-Smith (R)
Possibles
  • Caddy
  • Parker (R)
  • Pickett (R)
I have omitted Astbury as it is a straight swap with Tarrant.
