If he wants to go, it would be on him to negotiate with his next club. If he and them were far apart that would be our opportunity to step in and eat some cap space for a better pick or player etc. but if he wants out I don’t see his contract being a problem, not like if he was being pushed or was a free agent like Lynch.

I don’t believe either syd club would have the appetite to make quantum list change to accommodate a 32yo player in their TPP , never mind the transaction that’s secondary

This is exactly right

And if he wants to go then its upto him and the new club to re negotiate his new contract and come to an agreement on what he will be payed by them and not Richmond.

Then its upto his New club to get a trade done for his services
1/ Have an agreement with Dusty on what he will be paid by the new club
2/ Satisfy Richmond trade demands what that may be
3 / Wish Dusty well and say goodbye

Or He stays at Richmond and becomes a 1 club legend

We are missing Lynch this week and a few people are bemoaning the loss of Chol due to the impact he had during 2019-20. I thought he was generally pretty average and other than an occasional 5-minute patch here and there usually looked gassed…. I checked the 2020 stats of Chol v Mason Cox … here they are and they both played 11 games:

Possessions: Chol 6 v Cox 6.3 (yes, Chol had 66 possessions in 11 games)

Marks: 1.4 x 3.2

Goals : 0.7 v 1.3

Goal assists: 0.4 v 0.3

Hitouts : 6.0 v 3.0

Contested marks : 0.4 v 2.1

Score Inv: 3.1 v 3.1

Effective disposals : 4.2 v 5.0

So I think it’s accepted that Mason Cox is one of the greatest on-field spuds and liabilities any team has ever fielded on a regular basis (2019 PF the unfortunate exception).

So hopefully we don’t let the sands of time influence our memories of what Chol actually delivered for us. To suggest he was some sort of saviour during our flag years when injury hit I don’t believe is correct. Miller and Biggy are more than capable of getting 6 touches a game, taking a mark and kicking the occasional goal if needed this season as Chol delivered, wouldn’t you think?

You guys completely miss who we re talking about , arguably this centuries BEST player who’s still in ripping form and would easily have 2 years left at top level and likely another couple at cameo level deep forward . If Bryce Gibbs 29yo was worth 2 x r1 , you tell me . We re not talking any old 31y here
In any case this is highly unlikely to happen due to his 1.4m salary pa
Yep. Dusty is four years younger than Buddy, who would've easily drawn a first round pick out of a team like Geelong, Adelaide, Bulldogs or Port Adelaide 4 years ago. Teams that were on the cusp of a flag but needed a serious key forward to go to premiership level.

And Dusty is a better now than Buddy was in 2018. Dusty would make GWS and Sydney instantly and magically premiership material in 2023, and neither have a chance of winning it in the next three years without him.

Prefer draft capital tbh
I agree, but I doubt we'll be getting too much even as a RFA. Ellis only got an after-2nd-rounder at 26 with $3M over 5 years. Unfortunately I think Broady wouldn't get us much, as ridiculous as it seems.
Have I missed something?? Where is Broad going?
You've missed nothing. They're talking shit.

Hopper should be on our radar, so too Taranto.

If Dusty leaves I'd love Hopper and their first.

They seem to be very keen to sign Taranto up, but I can see them offloading Hopper, as he's probably the worst of a very good bunch of inside mids they have there.

I reckon we'd be very keen.

What if Hardwick is going to GWS and taking Dusty… and Cotch retires… and Shedda and Lambert. I’m sad
You’re one of those guys who wears 3 face masks and carries their own personal hand sanitizer aren’t ya

Thoughts on getting Liam Jones?

If we could get one or the other I would almost prefer Hopper
Tatanto probably the more well rounded player but Hopper the better pure mid

Would we get that much for Broad? 2nd round pick is probably a pipe dream. Wonder which team it would be as well?

Don’t want to lose Broad but in our starting 22 he’d be the one I chose to lose if given the choice so it wouldn’t be the worst result
If Rioli doesnt want to sign we could package the two West Australian boys together. Would kick start the West Coast rebuild nicely. I dont think they can go for the full rebuild with kids only, their supporters wont tolerate 4-5 years of pain so they will be looking to add some ready to go players.

I think Ralph Carr is just telling Daniel to hang out for some extra cash though. No chance he will actually move.

Taranto’s contract finishes this year, he will be 25yo before next season. But Hopper’s, like Green’s, finishes next year. Hopper will be 26yo and Green 22yo. Green is still building his tank but of the three I think he would suit us best due to his age fitting better with our list build. He looks potentially the best player of the trio as well.

Don't think Hopper being contracted would be much of a barrier given that he is a pre-agent and it's no secret the Giants need cap relief.

If Green isn't going to happen, then Hopper is the next best thing. Inside bull who dominates contested ball and clearances and has elite endurance. Exactly what we need and I'd happily cough up our first pick for him.

I agree we would happily take Hopper. But if he is leaving fire sale style, we might get a better deal than him for our first pick. Maybe Hopper and GWS second rounder(Approx pick 26-28) for our first(approx pick 12.) Or Hopper and steak knives for our first rounder. Steak knives possibly being a Riccardi or O’Halloran fringe type.

Personally I would train my guns on Tom Green and try to make it impossible for GWS to keep him. And pay the price. He looks too good a solution to our requirements to not do that.

Taranto would be out of our price range I think. For where we are, Hopper would fit nicely. Mid priced inside player, who we could build around for the next 4-5 years.

If we bring Taranto in on good coin then there would be an expectation that we are trying to contend, when likely we are trying to build the foundations of our next list.

I think it’s buyer beware for both those players. Taranto was a significantly better player in 2019 (B&F in GF year as a 21yo) than he is now … so if that’s a continual decline we could end up with a Shiel scenario where for whatever reason they played their best footy early 20’s. Maybe it’s due to opportunity or the role he’s given, but you’d want to be very careful his best footy isn’t behind him.

And Hopper seems a bit fragile physically. This will be his 3rd season out of 6 since being a guaranteed senior player that he will have missed at least 7 games in a season - that’s a massive red flag for someone who’ll be 26yo start of 2023.

I certainly wouldn’t give up a top-10 pick for either of them as neither Taranto or Hopper are in the very top echelon of mids.
