Yep it does as we had no interest in either, so it does stack up.

I doubt anyone loses sleep over not getting either of them.
Similar reasons as to why Miles never really got a game with us
Decent enough in the contest but not enough of those extra attributes

Would prefer we go all or nothing, big name genuine A grader at a prime age like Taranto or just back our kids and development
Crouch is a little in between for me a little older so isn’t really a long term prospect and would ultimately just keep another kid out of the side
Yeah I meant in addition to Tarranto. Especially if Cotchin pulls the pin or Dusty leaves. We don't have any young gun mids waiting for a game besides Sonsie potentially.

Either of them would make us a better side right now and both were bargain pickups.

Don’t like the idea of getting two walk up mids, we have guys like Ross and Dow who are ready to play afl level now and more so next year, plus like you mentioned Sonsie
Getting two basically means we don’t have a spot for any of them in the midfield and another year wasting away in the vfl

Yep, means we'd have good midfield depth for once.

Ross and Dow are unlikely to make it imo. Ross can't put two good games together at AFL level and Dow can't at VFL level.

Plus, we'd only be looking at both Taranto and Hopper if Dusty left, so that means they'd essentially be Cotchin and Dusty replacements. You've still then got Lambert and Edwards to replace in there and Prestia only plays half the season.

And it would mean we could focus our drafting on the two types of players we're good at finding—athletic talls and speedy smalls.

Averaging more tackles, tackles inside 50, pressure acts and defensive half pressure acts than both Cotchin and Prestia this season.

Mate he’s a crab. Mitchell like player.

That is where the former club paying some of the contract comes in to it, which then impacts the value of the pucks handed over.

If GWS/Sydney were to take Dusty on and pay his full contract value themselves then we'd get a lesser value in picks given they're taking on the contract.

However if he wanted to move and we agreed to pay some of the contract, then the value of the trade increases.
Hence we should pay the whole contract and load up on picks. Our list is too talented to bottom out and build up with the next Cotchin and Martins. We have load up on generational talent and also keep the winning culture maintained.

I am not interested in Hopper if Dusty does go to GWS. He has been out and he does not tick enough boxes for me.

There are a host of other picks/players I would prefer, but I would be happy if Dusty stayed to
When will people stop talking up B graders in trades. Last year it was Cerra and previously it was Crouch brothers etc and they are all flops or overpaid for what their output is. You don't win flags trading for the Saads and Williams of the world.

Yeah probably. I still reckon we pickup Matt Crouch for cheap. Averaging 27 disposals and 4.1 clearances a game @ 74% DE this season. Only just turned 27 and a former all Australian and best and fairest winner. Over his injury issues.

He's not glamorous but cracks in and would be handy feeding the ball out to Sonsie, Bolton, Graham etc. Good replacement for Cotchin for little cost.
Good way to finish ninth into perpetuity actually.

In what way would the trade value increase if we paid part of his contract if he were traded to the swans for example?

Apart from the iffyness Hopper is too one dimensional for our needs and team mix

Don’t think we would be looking at both Taranto and Hopper rkn it would be a case of us exploring our options but ultimately securing one

Also think Ross and Dow will make it, both still young and have shown enough glimpses at afl level that they are capable just need an extended run of games playing in the position they were drafted as to find that consistency and confidence

If Ralph Carr is really looking to help North with their recruiting…

Operation Tarrant. With Robbie’s great form, it is now evident we need to re-unite the three Tarrant brothers at Tigerland.

Dusty to North on a 4 year x $1.4m deal they pay his whole wage. Perhaps we send them a fringe player as well, let’s say Jack Ross, or if they had any interest Will Martyn and or Cumberland, or, it pains me to even suggest it, only if we have given up on him, Stack. The more we send, obviously the more we get back in terms of draft picks on top of the target player.

We take the second Tarrant brother, TarrynThomas if we assess him to be a worthwhile risk, as a Dusty replacement, big bodied mid-forward in a great age bracket, out of the 2018 draft, where we look to have bombed. We take Thomas on say a 3 year x $500k deal. So we come out of this with $900k in cap space free. We should be in a good position to get intelligence on this player, given his cousin plays for us, and his former teammate and fellow Tarrant brother Robbie plays for us.

We take the $900, our first pick - and possibly a pick swap of North’s second rounder for GWS second rounder, offer the 3rd Tarrant brother, Tim Taranto $750 x 5. Another adaptable big bodied mid. We send the extra $150k left over back into consolidated revenue, to help with Bolton, Baker and Rioli.

We hit 2023 with a midfield of 25yo Taranto Thomas/Bolton(always one forward, one on ball,) Prestia, Cotchin, Short. We go to this year’s draft with GWS second rounder and our second rounder, say pick 25 and 30.

Of course, keeping Dusty is a preference, but a deal like this could suit all clubs in the event Dusty wanted to move.

How it gets done !

Tanner Bruhn + GWS 1st rounder to Richmond For Dusty + #19
Richmond pay $450k x 2 years
Horrendous.

Crouch was AA in 2017 when Cotchin should have been. Four clearances a game is low for someone who doesn't do anything else. He's behind Cotchin and Prestia in clearances per game, and behind Cotch, Prestia, Bolton and Nank in contested possessions. And he uses it sideways. Crab.

Isn’t he always injured as well? And off field issues?

Dusty ain't going to Norf, mate.

Tarryn Thomas is definitely a player we should be targeting. He's gettable from North this year imo.

If Dusty were to move up to Sydney, we could very quickly turn that into a win by using his coin to bring in Taranto and Thomas. Just need a ruck/forward and it could be the 2016 offseason all over again!

Dusty ain't going to Norf, mate.

You wouldn’t think so. But what else could “Ralph Carr has offered to help North with their recruiting” possibly mean? I think Dusty is the only player he manages now, or the only Richmond player at least. Could be a rubbish story, but North would be Dusty’s best chance of a long term big money contract right now.

He'll be a steal for whoever picks him up.

Rubbish, he was great in 2017.

Define "bargain pick up".

Will Brodie was a well publicised salary dump by the Gold Coast.

Given where our salary cap is at, I wouldn't say it would be smart list management to bring Brodie across on 500k+.

Do you think it would well received by Baker, Kmac, Rioli etc. managers that a NEAFL player was brought in on more money than them?

To borrow a phrase from Rancey, you "don't upset the apple cart" for a Will Brodie.

Salary cap issues. If we paid a heap of a contract in a trade we get more back. So for Sydney they don't have the cap space for Dusty. If we pay enough $ they do. In turn they have to pay us for that. So maybe goes from one 1st to 2 firsts. lots of swings and roundabouts in trades.
