You wouldn’t think so. But what else could “Ralph Carr has offered to help North with their recruiting” possibly mean? I think Dusty is the only player he manages now, or the only Richmond player at least. Could be a rubbish story, but North would be Dusty’s best chance of a long term big money contract right now.
Would be even more low profile for Dusty than a move to NSW.

He'll be a steal for whoever picks him up.

Rubbish, he was great in 2017.
Agree, we should be into him for the right price. He has 5 years left and at his best is exactly the kind of big bodied inside mid we need. Better of the 2 Crouch brothers. In 2017 was among the best midfielders in the competition, he got scarred by Townsend tackle which changed him forever. Bring him to Tigerland as the only way to repair the damage done

Salary cap issues. If we paid a heap of a contract in a trade we get more back. So for Sydney they don't have the cap space for Dusty. If we pay enough $ they do. In turn they have to pay us for that. So maybe goes from one 1st to 2 firsts. lots of swings and roundabouts in trades.

He’s worth 2 first round picks on his own. And who says they have salary cap issues? Buddy’s contract ends this year he’s not going to get the same coin he’s been on

We’re not going to eat a chunk of his contract to help Sydney out.

I missed the memo when the tiges became a charity 😜

We have a pretty strong history of getting 24-25 year olds and not older . ( Tarrant the exception as Arseberry left earlier than expected ) .
Can’t see us taking 27-28 year olds who can’t get a game at a their current club who is worst off in their position than us .
Clarke and Brodie escalated Freo last year for next to nothing .

I still think Narkle would be good fit .

Define "bargain pick up".

Will Brodie was a well publicised salary dump by the Gold Coast.

Given where our salary cap is at, I wouldn't say it would be smart list management to bring Brodie across on 500k+.

Do you think it would well received by Baker, Kmac, Rioli etc. managers that a NEAFL player was brought in on more money than them?

To borrow a phrase from Rancey, you "don't upset the apple cart" for a Will Brodie.
Bargain - A thing bought or offered for sale much more cheaply than is usual or expected.

Yes Brodie was on a large contract - funnily one he has justified since landing at Freo but on top of Brodie, Freo landed pick 19, 61 and 69 for a future 2nd and future 4th. So effectively Brodie AND 19 for a future 2nd and a future 4th. A steal or a bargain however you want to look at it. Lyons was a delisted free agent so bargain in $$ and cost nothing in draft capital.

Crouch wouldn't be a salary dump anyway so not really relevant to the apple cart.

Yep for the right price of course. I don't see it happening as someone else will offer him more than we will.
Probably end up at st kilda where all the other spuds go
Possibly. Brad has been very good this year. Reckon a few teams will show interest.

If Dusty was to go to Sydney I would look at their 1st rounder plus McLean or Amartey. Then trade our 1st and 2nd to GWS for Taranto and their 3rd.
Means we have the forward/ruck and inside mid we need which opens up the draft to get best available.
Not that interested in Hopper. Reckon he's a rich man's Graham who would cost too much in salary and picks.

Won’t be able to afford Taranto because we’re paying Dusty’s salary for some reason

Yeah probably. I still reckon we pickup Matt Crouch for cheap. Averaging 27 disposals and 4.1 clearances a game @ 74% DE this season. Only just turned 27 and a former all Australian and best and fairest winner. Over his injury issues.

He's not glamorous but cracks in and would be handy feeding the ball out to Sonsie, Bolton, Graham etc. Good replacement for Cotchin for little cost.

Would prefer we go all or nothing, big name genuine A grader at a prime age like Taranto or just back our kids and development
Crouch is a little in between for me a little older so isn’t really a long term prospect and would ultimately just keep another kid out of the side
At that age I’d prefer Brayshaw by a mile

Swans do not have enough colateral.

These two first rounders of the Swans is not enough. He could go to the Swans and still not contend. I am not that excited about the Swans youth as others. They are good but they are not at the Heeney and Mills level. I actually think GWS have the better list, it is just coaching and a skewing of talent has not helped them get a better team combination
I don’t think dusty is musing over where to go who’s in a better premiership window than the tigers , that’s plain ridiculous

Brodie isn't half the player Baker is and paying him more than Baker risks losing Baker.

Brodie getting hyped because he gets supercoach points - I don't think he's worth half a million per season and that's what he's on at a minimum.

Agree to disagree.

Freo had the cap space for a salary dump and got him for a steal points/pick wise. But again, Brodie is irrelevant in this instance as Crouch wouldn't be a salary dump.

Baker is better yes. Not sure the relevance though.

Why pick up trash for a rolls royce? If Sydney want to salary dump players they are supposed to give us something.

Dusty has a separate valuation

Rubbish, he was great in 2017.
He wasn't as good as Cotchin.

Of course, we all remember his wonderful 37-possession grand final in a team that lost by 8 goals - oh, wait, no we don't, we remember him getting tackled and that's it BECAUSE HE'S A CRAB whose possessions do no damage.

Better of the 2 Crouch brothers.
No he's not.

Brodie isn't half the player Baker is
He's a better clearance player though.

All was responding to was when you asked why we'd pay some salary.

If we pay $ that means we get something back - not a charity.

I would assume that the only way we'd do this would be if we got a truck load of treasure in return. If we had to pay up $500K to ge another first round pick or good player then Ok, we do that.

But Dusty ain't going. There are no sources, it's all just hot air.

Yeah I know it’s all hypothetical. Appreciate your post.

I’d trade Dusty to Sydney for two first round picks and give them $50 as a good will gesture on his contract.

Take it or leave it Sydney

The relevance is just because someone is available doesn't mean they must be sought after - you brought up Brodie, not me.

M Crouch is good at the contest, not disputing that but he's pretty much useless once the ball leaves the stoppage.

Nank would cover the ground better than him and probably beat him for pace.

Tarryn Thomas is definitely a player we should be targeting. He's gettable from North this year imo.

If Dusty were to move up to Sydney, we could very quickly turn that into a win by using his coin to bring in Taranto and Thomas. Just need a ruck/forward and it could be the 2016 offseason all over again!

Thomas would want to sort out his off field shit. Having said that if I was playing for north I’d be drinking too

Thomas would want to sort out his off field s**t. Having said that if I was playing for north I’d be drinking too
Yeah he's definitely a risk, but if North decides he's too big a risk for them then he's also an opportunity for us. Lots more support for him at Richmond than there is at North at the moment.

As an example of a capable midfielder who when given opportunity to play to his strengths has proven a valuable pickup, along with Lyons. I reckon Crouch could do that for us for relatively little cost.

I reckon you can have two pure inside mids in a good team. We have two in Prestia and Cotchin. Cotchin may well finish up this year and Prestia is badly injury prone but is also just as good outside given the opportunity.

I’m all for it. The talent is not in question. Maybe playing for a proper club will help.

Him on form would solve a lot of our midfield issues and he’s young. Would love him learning off Dusty for a few years

Would also be a nice little f/you to north. If you’re going to target our players we will target yours.
