If Graham was good enough, he would be playing Hopper and Tarantos role.

He isn't so he doesn't, and he never will
That's true, but why are we comparing them?

Graham is a mainly outside defensive role player and the two GWS lads are coal face inside bulls.

We're comparing them because Graham went and got the Alberton Tour Special days after Hopper and Taranto announced their intention to join Richmond. So he's obviously comparing himself to them, thinking they're threats to his position.

If he didn't tour the dumphole, and just stuck out his contract, no comparisons would be made

IF

since 2017 the Tigers have forged their own success their own way ...

THEN ...

... there is an element of "copy Cats" about their post-2022 season movements. Keep the oldies Jack and Trent on the list, at vastly reduced rates, along with another seven in the 30-plus years of age zone. And bring in tried and true players Taranto and Hopper from the outside.

Didn't all our boys take pay cuts to land "the big fish" Lynch? Houli was on one year contracts , saved money ditto Edwards.
Seems like list management 101. Balance the culture and experience while expecting slightly less output.
Having said that hats off to Geelong, their 30 year olds are going great. Isaac Norm Smith.
Like their on the elixer of life.....did Dank & Robbo leave some behind.
Our 30 year olds Dave,, Bachar, Lambo, Sheds have looked 40. JR and Cotch had good seasons in 22. Cotch is a bit of a worry if he tails off like Sheds. Sheds was amazing in the 2020 GF. At least we have 2 more mids.
Heavily back ended I suppose. even with Dusty Lynch contracts..

Chuck in father son rule !! Hawkins Ablett..the go home factor of Danger to the Bellarine Peninsula.

Some clubs luck out with father son. Darcy, this years Aschcroft we get Naishy and MRJ Pies with 2 X Daicos and 2 X Browns

all of this ....

I don't think he sees them as threats. I think its as simple as Port missing out on Dunkley and having a bunch of money to throw around, and they've chosen to throw that money at Graham, knowing he won't get that much at Richmond.

All good

...

If he wasn't contracted for another year, with a clause that Richmond can activate now to keep him contracted for two years.

This is directly related to Taranto and Hopper for sure !

Taranto is a gun, was their best player in our Grand Final and the only player that stood up.

Hopper I'm not 100% sold on. Would rather we kept Graham.

Its related in the sense that its opened up the possibility of Richmond actually saying yes to trading Graham, because he's not as important to a team that wins more first posessions.

But I think Port (and other clubs) came to Graham with $$$. He hasn't gone to them feeling threatened about his position in the team and wanting out.

That's what they'll offer us for Graham which will probably be accepted by us.

Hopefully it means we can hold pick #19.

Would rather offer GWS a future 2nd (which is valuable as next years draft is stacked) and use pick #19 for KPF - if none is available, live trade 19 to someone desperate for a future first.

I know a lot of people think that's Graham's value, but in my opinion we should still be going for their future first for Graham plus 30.

May just be some due diligence by his manager, but usually you don’t waste another clubs time with a walk through. Though I know we took Tom Scully for a tour out of courtesy

Port 2nd round compensation falls at pick 27. It seems about right for Jack Graham as long as we can use to trade for Hopper and Taranto.

Lol the only fault with our pursuit of Taranto and Hopper is if they don’t fire early other stars not paid as much will be upset.

Even better talking about Graham as an inside mid 🤦🏻‍♂️

How do these people pass journalism class and not know how to do research?

I know, it’s staggering incompetence from footy journos … my favourite atm is “Port are making a mistake chasing Graham as they’ve already got Ollie Wines” …. bahahahhaa.

Yep.

And that they see Graham as worth that much (I presume more than Tigers pay) says a lot about how much influence he has had on how we play. Other clubs know this, and presumably they need that pressure player to step their game up. This is what people miss on looking at the usual stats. Jack is the #1 in the AFL for pressure acts. He is an amazing repeat effort player. So if you need that then you are willing to pay overs to get him.

I hope he stays. but if he goes I want a real nice payday for the RFC.

I can see both sides of the argument.

The fact that he's effectively got 2 years left on his contract makes me agree with you.

If he was out of contract, then no doubt it's 27.

Just depends how much Richmond play hardball - which we normally don't.

Yeah that's the thing I'm concerned about.

I hope that we do this time. This is a whole different kettle of fish. Graham is a wanted player I am sure. You don't give away those types to bolster the opposition teams for nothing. He is contracted also so we should be asking the impossible and work back from that.

I don't understand why he wants out tbh, we wanted to strengthen our midfield not lose any. As much as I am over the moon getting the two GWS boys, losing Graham is not ideal IMO.

Big agree. Keep him or get a great deal.

My only fear is that the better deal we get for him, it will just make GWS ask for more. They'll wanna take whatever we've got.

If we get pick 27 for Graham, they'll want that plus 12, 19 and maybe something else.

If get pick 8 for Graham + 19, then they'll want that pick 8 along with 12 and something else.

In the end we'll basically be trading all our picks plus Graham for Taranto and Hopper, and we may even lose Soldo in the trade, and all up that is bordering on overs.

It also doesn't really improve our midfield THAT much. We gain two very good players but lose someone important to how we've played. I wouldn't be happy with it unless we also get someone else this off season.

I cannot see how GWS could legitimately ask for 2 picks each for those 2 players plus maybe a player. They need to dump salaries so will need to be reasonable I would hope.

Heck, someone said 1x first rounder for Dunkley, and if that is so, I cannot see how they get 2 picks for each of these players.

Stay positive and hope we get these 2 get done prior to any Graham trade - if it happens (I am hoping it doesn't).
