GWS, Tigers agree on Taranto deal ahead of trade period start

Michael Gleeson, October 2, 2022 — 4.50pm

A deal to send Giants midfielder Tim Taranto to Richmond has been agreed in principle and is poised to be one of the first trades done when the trade period opens on Monday.

A source with knowledge of the discussions said the Giants and Richmond met in Sydney on Friday and agreed a deal after the out-of-contract Taranto had requested a trade to the Tigers.

Tim Taranto.

Central to the deal will be Richmond parting with picks 12 and 19 in the exchange, which could include the movement of other later picks.

Richmond and the Giants agreed to separate the two deals for Taranto and Jacob Hopper, who has also requested a trade to Richmond. As Taranto is out of contract and Hopper contracted, it was considered easier and cleaner to separate the deals.

The likely sum of the deals to move both players to the Tigers will be that Richmond give up 12, 19 and 30 in this year’s draft and their first-round pick next year, which is popularly considered to be a stronger draft than this year. There will probably be some movement of other, later picks involved in the final deals and potentially a Richmond player moving to the Giants.

GWS have long been interested in another ruckman and have inquired about Ivan Soldo, among other players.

Thank you! Will be interesting to see what the deal ends up being tomorrow.

3, 21, 39 and 59 is gws hand

I recon we get torranto and 39

Gws 12 and 19

For hopper probs a future first and soldo and ralphsmith

We get future 2nd and 59
Why would Richmond part with 2 players and a 1st round pick?

12 and 19 in this years draft probably equivalent to 22 and 29 in a normal draft. Unders
I’d say they’re worth 12 & 19. They slide back 1 for Ashcroft but forward 1 as soon as Dodo picks a potato

12, 19 , 30 and next years first for both

theyre having a lend

If Richmond include Ralphsmith as well we have lost the plot
Kid has shown he will be a good player and our future 200-250 game wing

Writer's having a guess. Fleshing out their shitty article which wouldn't have amounted to any more content than what's written in the headline without it.

Kind of think this would be the case

If both teams agreed to split the 2 trades and Richmond give up 12+19 for the uncontracted Taranto
that really doesnt leave too much for the Hopper trade to use as a bargaining tool apart from F1+Soldo if they are wanting him

But a bit of guessing from the reporter here possibly

Big overpay if this is correct.

Taranto is not worth two first round picks.

Hooper for 30 and future first is also an overpay.

Let's hope it guarantees us another flag as it wouldn't matter then but geez...

I dont think is a massive over pay as its effectively #13 + #21 (fletcher/Ashcroft FS)
but would have been good if it was 12+30

But end of the day i think we all know we will be clearing all our picks with later picks coming back and Soldo going off the books (which is not really a bad thing as he wouldnt be on less than $350k) and possibly blocking Ryan's game time

I am yet to see any confirmation Soldo is going except for speculation. Anyone got something concrete?
