What did I say that was actually wrong though?

Not saying anything that hasn't been said by plenty of others in the past.

Or are you one of these people whose default setting is to sees and shouts racism whenever anyone attempts to mount a critical discussion point regarding anything involving indigenous people?

I didn't use the word 'racism' at all, but since you mention it...

What others (including myself) have said is that Jetta's performance has been way below an acceptable standard and he should be dropped. He was recruited to address an area where we were lacking - footskills - but hasn't delivered enough in other parts of his game.

What you basically said is we picked up Jetta as some kind of affirmative action project, rather than on his merits. That is absurd and I don't intend to spend my night explaining further to a halfwit like you.

Spot on, but would Rosa get a game if we had Sheed and X in?

Minor short term stuff - we have bigger issues.
Both of them could probably fit in the side. Rosa was extremely courageous. Jetta is soft enough to be a pillow on Simpsons coaching chair.

It's gotta be a tough one...

If we drop Jetta to the WAFL, given he clearly appears to be a player who heavily relies on confidence, and that is something that appears utterly shot at the moment, gotta be wondering if you will striking a catastrophic blow to the bloke and he may never recover.....but at the same time is it worth persisting with him at the moment in the hope he will eventually have a good game at some point and some switch then gets flicked and we start seeing the gun player we hoped to be drafting?

Where is the balance?

All I know is, right now, he is an utter non performer and if we were just going on that he shouldn't be in the team.

Appears butter soft, disinterested, out of step with the pace of the game, and utterly incapable of finding the footy.....no sense in playing him in such 'form' and then seeing the inevitable backlash in the media, and amongst supporters....that won't help either. I can see him rapidly becoming the next whipping boy for WC supporters, and I think that will kill the blokes career.

Options?
You make some really good points. The coaches are much closer to what is going on with him. Is he really disinterested or does he just appear disinterested? He seems that he is playing in a fairly restricted way to team rules without the opportunity to use his pace like he did in the last quarter. I think he is a good player who could really add something to our team if his talent can be brought out. I think the media and public pressure have destroyed other careers, Ashley Sampi come to mind.

It's pretty hard to grow a new pair but I agree.
Dont see him getting dropped. Very rarely do 'star' recruits get dropped in the first year. Dont know what happened to jetts. In 2012 he was literally one of the most damaging players in the game. Oozed confidence, he simply looked at a player and knew he was going to take him on. Even when he has the ball now, hes very quick to get rid of it.. genuinely looks like hes not interested at all. Who knows. He was well liked at the swans and was nearly in tears at the best and fairest when he spoke about his decision to leave. He was very well liked at the club and the first impression i got during his b and f talk was that this bloke doesnt want to leave and is doing purely for family. Maybe thats coming out in his footy.

Sorry to intrude by the way. Not here to troll in anyway

There will be chairs thrown if he isnt this week.

Has been putrid and hasn't "earned" his spot with us yet.
He deserves to be dropped. His attitude stinks, surely the playing group has noticed and its up to hurn to make a stand. How can the players be expected to out their body on the line when there is one who refuses to. Jetta can play, and he will have some seriously good performances for you guys, right now his demeanor is hurting the team more than his play. Hel come good, but a message needs to be sent

Too me there is a wider, elephant like issue sitting in the corner of the room...an issue that goes to the causation of today's unfortunate events....bit of minefield I may be about to step into, but here is my view...

The number of indigenous players playing in the comp today, is a massive spike on the numbers that were getting around in previous eras....yes we have issues surrounding retention and they don't all end up forging careers, but on a league wide scale...far, far more indigenous blokes on AFL lists than twenty years ago.

As someone who has watched his share of WA footy over the last thirty years, has seen the majority of indigenous talent that's come through the old WAFL, then up through Eagles and Dockers, as well as the home grown talent drafted interstate, I feel comfortable saying Lewis Jetta is someone that wouldn't of gotten with coo-eee of a being on an AFL list in the 80s and 90s, or even early 2000s....and if he had of he would played perhaps a handful of games, before disappearing into the sunset as another bloke who came into the system for a couple of years, didn't make the grade, and then ended up moving onto the next chapter of there adult life.

To me, the overall talent pool across the board isn't what it was twenty years ago...maybe more players, but arguably a far, far thinner spread of talent across the league.

And the same applies to the indigenous players spread throughout the league....every club now feels the pressure to find there own Cyril Rioil or Adam Goodes et al, and also feel the need to be seen to have there own contingent of indigenous talent etc...as a result, lots of flashy, speedy, silky looking but largely ill disciplined indigenous kids are getting drafted that simply wouldn't of got a run in previous eras when you simply didn't see non performing indigenous players plodding along and staying on senior lists after doing largely bugger all for 3 years on the trot, ala Lewis Jetta....but I guess delisting him might of offended his mentor Goodsey so who knows.

Whatever this guy showed playing WAFL colts for Swan Districts, he simply is not good enough to be on an AFL list, he is overtly afraid of the physical contact that is a requirement of the game, he provides zero defensive contribution to the team, and exhibits body language which will inevitably lead to an erosion of morale amongst teammates who have eyes and see it week in/out.

We never should of traded for him as he was already done at Sydney, and if we have learnt anything from today's shameful exhibition of unabashed fear laid bare on a footy field, it's that we need to recruit the right indigenous talent...rather than just grabbing at the first interstate based local that's played a half a seasons worth of good matches over five years, but feels homesick and wants to be closer to family.

Should be a do not recruit red flag right there.

Well said mate
Well worded and carefully thought out allways a delicate topic when talking about the indigenous footballers and their characteristics,Jettas lack of intensity, discipline and 2nd efforts are very frustrating to watch especially when we have a kid like Nelson who has great aggression at the contest great pressure and discipline puts his head over the ball and does all the team things not getting a game. Surely Jetta is omitted for this weeks game need to send a strong message to the group he's not alone though few passengers at the moment selection will be interesting

Not much to persist with, he has had poor body language and interest in the last two years at Sydney which has now simply been transferred to us.
This is not a lack of confidence it is simply a guy who has lost interest in the game.
If he won't work his guts out at AFL level he certainly won't at WAFL level.
If we drop him which I think we should I think he is finished.
You are making a lot of judgements there. If correct, why ever did we recruit him?
Just as a matter of interest, why did Sydney continue to play him? They seem to be a pretty professional outfit and Longmire looks like he's a guy who wouldn't tolerate nonsense, I wonder why they continued to play him?

His 'efforts' today were so in your face and inescapable they can't ignore it.

It's not all warm and fuzzy romance buddy.

If you don't face up to the realities of life honestly, positive change never happens.

Wasn't having a crack at Aboriginal people, simply discussing how the system is working that's all.

You`re coming across as a hateful moron

Don't have those answers but it's pretty common knowledge he has been poor for the swans the last 2 years.
Maybe we thought a change of scenery would help, a different coach, different structures etc.
Lots of questions mate and only he knows the answers. But we can't carry a senior footballer. He has the ability we know that, I just don't see much upside at the minute with him and fail to see a guy who is trying like hell to find form.

For those in the know... what would be the difference in his income between playing a wafl game and an afl game?

I would guess as a senior player he is on a fixed salary so he gets paid the same no matter where he plays.
Happy to be corrected but I think only the rookies and very young players get a salary and game payments.
E.g. Jetta might be on 400k per year while young Duggan is probably on 120k plus 15-20k per senior game.
Don't know for sure though and those figures of course are just for the example.

I am not saying that Jetta should be carried, but we probably had about 15 passengers today, players afraid of physical contact, making continual skill errors, not working hard enough, not able to tackle.

I propose a Yo' Mama-style contest to cheer us up after this latest... interstate unpleasantness.

I'll kick it off: Lew Jetta's so soft, McDonald's sells him for 50c.

Jetta is on $400,000 a year??

What were his stats again?

Didn't lay one tackle today, and no contested possessions wasn't it?

Christ.

Eagles should of just reached out to your Armadale highs, Balga Highs, Lockridge highs, Govo's etc....send us your school footy teams flashiest aboriginal kids with a bit of toe...got some work experience for them.

Surely can't be any physically softer than Jetta was today, and the opportunity might prevent the next Dayle Garlett becoming the next Dayle Garlett.
