So does ANB go straight into the pressure half forward role?

I mean Keays covered that position in 2024 ... but does ANB give us another version of that type of utility?
I think Keays has gone beyond being a pure pressure forward, given he kicks a good amount of goals

I’d have ANB as the high half forward pressure player, the position Murphy is occupying currently. Don’t need to rely on him for goals (although can score when needed), but is moreso there for his work rate and defensive side of the ball

I have a feeling we chased him more than is being let on. ‘When the opportunity came up to come home” adds to that.

Reckon we knew he may have benefit to get home because of the personal reasons (not suggesting that narrative is made up), chased him with that knowledge and made it enticing enough to make him want it.

Not just he fell in our lap looking for a home and we took him up.

In other words, the personal reasons he could have dealt with and stayed at melb but we turned his head alongside them

So... Like we ran over his dog and slashed his tires while burning a giant lower-case t in his backyard to signify/threaten "time to leave Melbourne"?

Suddenly love this club again

ANB straight into Murphy role. Keays plays the half forward up role running up and back down the wings.

Neale Bullen Thilthorpe Walker
Keays Fogarty Rachele

ANB has nearly won their B&F FFS
Wonder how much they will try and fleece is now on draft capital

25 os gonna be 35 on the night by the look of it so we can all calm down

Laird came 2nd last year and he struggled this year. It literally means nothing as a 29yo having a good finish in the B&F. If they were a 20yo havent even reached potential and nearly stole it, then you have a case to mount with arguing price. But remember too, ANB only got third because Petracca, Oliver and others had down years.

So while its a good result for ANB, I doubt either club will talk about it at the trade table. If anything, I would be surprised if this deal hasnt already been struck and paper work isnt lodged on the first day of trading. Nothing is ever mentioned around this deal which pretty much says its long been already negotiated and agreed.

Can you find a poster who is complaining about this addition?

NOT worth pick 26 in this draft

This trade gets a D from me. We have traded in a 29-year-old who will play in a peripheral position that we should be using to develop young players. If the plan is to replace Murphy with ABN, that D would become a C- but we know this will not happen given how fixated Nicks and his band of losers are on 0 goals Murph.

FAIL

The more I think about this, the less enthused I am.

Hope im wrong but we will be nowhere near finals in 2025. 1 new player won't help.

Dees won the flag in what year? A million years ago

I DGAF if ANB he is coming home for family reasons, we're not a charity.

Pick 25 should be part of an upgrade to get Dodson on our list. Not used on ANB.

This is a repeat of when we spat out our 1st rounder in advance to get Rankine, when we should’ve reserved that pick to use on Philippou and got creative elsewhere to trade for Rankine.

That’s what I’d be saying up until 2 minutes before the trade period ends anyway.

In isolation I stick by it he’s not worth pick 25 in this draft but if we get him and Peatling for this years 2nd and next years 2nd I can live with it

Really are missing out on potential for something special however with our pick in 20s this year even if it gets shifted to early 30s

Not to say I don’t think ANB is a good addition , I do . He will help in short term for sure and be good for culture too

Hey did you know you’re a dick ;)

I think it’s fair to question the price we are giving up for short term gain that won’t be in a period we contend for a flag.

But as you’ve said if it’s effectively 2 seconds in a row for both players the order doesn’t mean much.

I love Keays, but now would be the time to cash in on his value... (contracted til '27, but still)

Please.

Arguably the hardest working player on the list, who will finish guaranteed top 5 B&F (could win it), in a side that needs to get older and more experienced, who has plenty of years left

And would get us a second rounder

And would mean Murphy would be a back as a starter?

That’s a terrible suggestion

ANB will be pick 25
Peatling will be a future 2 - GWS won’t want another pick this year (although that could change as they are losing players hand over fist at the minute)

The club has been pretty clear - all year - that our focus is on improving quickly and not on this draft

We will take pick 4 (Draper, Langford or Smillie) and Welsh

but its not 25 its gonna be 35 on the night. its already 27 and falling fast

Suspect that with the recent excitement surrounding the GWS acquisitions, this one's gone under the radar a bit. I reckon ANB will probably have the biggest impact next season, partly because he should replace the lowest-value member of our 22. But beyond that, his attributes are perfectly suited to our current style. With the dilution of pick 25, I can even probably live with handing that over to get the deal done.
