The criticism is that with Cameron playing high, May and/or Lever for example could dominate, or like Port in the first quarter of the QF last year with game over.
My question is why do we need to use a key goal kicking forward playing midfield.
Why is it criticism?

The reality is that Cameron is doing what he’s doing and we’re winning.

You can’t compare the reality of something to a hypothetical of May dominating. Because then any of us could create a hypothetical of Rohan dominating or Stengle dominating. What if can go back and forth.

If there was a game this year where this tactic failed - then we could assess it and criticise aspects of it.

Dangerfield was good today but his set kicking is terrible. 2 out on the full and 1 behind. Then a poor pass to a poor lead by Hawkins out of desperation. A kick he would have nailed in the old days. I hope it doesn't cost us a final. Stengle is amazing, Holmes is flying. Kolo can be flakey but he was really solid today. Menegola is making a case for being in the best 22. Go Cats!!!
I think it was super slippery. Stengle and Hawkins had some terrible shots at goal too. And you wouldn’t expect that.

This. First quarter was average, last three were truly excellent. Miers is clear best 22. Even if he is slightly down on a day, he makes Close and Stengle better. They are stronger than the sum of their parts.
Early in the game after I think Miers hand passed to Stengle very instinctively I noticed that. Those three are really started to gel together, not just with the talls.

It's not often you see a lazy 10 goal win.
Cats seemed to to purring along... rarely getting out of 2nd gear.
Yet seemed to be first to every contest to swiftly whisk the ball away.
The transition from the slowest team last year to the quickest is remarkable.

The Cats were so dominant at one stage Q2 repeatedly pumping the ball into F50
it appeared they were having marking practice drills.
The game was won by half time...The 2nd Half is where some bad habits crept in..
Either bombing the ball forward quickly in hope, or looking for a perfect target rather that kicking at goal.
Late in the game the over possession seemed like a comedy of errors, with over 10 rushed disposals
Until Touhy kicked a quick snap from the pack.
It is always dangerous to flirt with form...
A hard training session before the WCE game and "managing" the offenders will help them refocus.
Danger's goal kicking was woeful. Spraying left then right before losing confidence and passing to a crowed Hawkins.
He needs a long session of goal kicking practice to sort out his kicking, and to regain his confidence.

The biggest worry today was potential injury.
Stanley winced from a bump and was immediately subbed out and placed in cotton wool.
Clearly they were not taking any risks with our in form ruckman.... or any other player.
Expect Ceglar to play next week ... we definitely could use an extra marking target inside F50.

I still dont think he is injured and we are fudging the medi sub thing it looked too planned to me.

That said rest him next week as hes crucial get a game into ceglar in case.
I agree.

I also think that if/when we come up against Melbourne in the finals, we will play Stanley and Ceglar.

Na i don't see us doing 2 rucks again this year just Stanley/Blics or Ceglar/Blics

If Ceglar had of been fit earlier in the year i think we would of tried it think it is to late now

Honestly how lucky are we to have Stengle? And how much will his absence cost Richmond and Adelaide? With the right nurturing, this kid will be the next Stevie J. He is a 10/10. Such a gun. Watching the replay he's just so dangerous with the ball in his hands approaching goal. Can kick them from any angle, can duck and weave through traffic, lightning quick and not a bad set shot either. Weapon!

He's a very dangerous player. You can't give him an inch, and with his wheels, that's hard to do !

Probably him and Pickett are the two best small forwards in the league imho

So what is wrong with our midfield that they need to feed Cameron to get the ball forward? I can see a final against a good team where we keep entering the 50 and the ball rebounds as Hawk can’t jump, Rohan can’t hold his grabs, the defence out marks us, and smalls Stengle, Miers and Close can’t get into the game.
I feel you missed Lana's entire point

Cameron can drill a low 55m pass to a teammate inside F50 that is hard to intercept.
Touhy can also do the same. Stewie and Duncan can low pass 45m or need to kick it a little higher.
The rest of the midfielders can only pass 35m or a long high bomb.

edit:
Holmes is fast enough to run 15m then boot it 50m
It is the quick and long ball movement that can break a line that creates scoring opportunities.
Dun forget Issac

Not sure the huge fear factor is warranted about Melbourne?? They are 5 wins 6 losses since the 10 game mark of the year, and got out of jail tonight… could easily be 4 wins 7 losses.

They are looking very average.

We gonna get some media hate for that sub. Bring it on. Rule will be tweaked next year

There is no rule what constitutes and doesn’t constitute an injury sub?? If he is feeling precautionary sore and we want to remove him then it shouldn’t be such a dramatic point.

It is quite an afforded luxury to want to bring on listed player 23 and it improves your team. We have some top notch depth

Stengle is just pure class.

stewart back to dominating form

miers made it harder for menegola to keep his spot tonight. Menegola probably not enough.

cameron should of kicked 5.

holmes wouod be an emerging star if he had a better kick. becoming very good player nonetheless.

Any better and it would be off the chart.

This makes my feel uncomfortable ... like my divorced parents being nice to each other!

What a game. We just cruised on through to a sixty point win.

Now we've got the Eagles at their favourite absolute venue--GMHBA.

I don't know if it was broadcast, but after Rohan's bit of brilliance taking on two Suns players (at the end of the 3rd from memory) it felt like half the team got around him to pat him on the head. Darty lead the party as usual with a huge grin on his beautiful, dopey face. His energy for his teammates and how he hypes them up is brilliant. I love that. It lifts the whole team.

Don't know if it has been mentioned already, but Dew's story in his presser about he and Scotty ending up in the coach toilets together at half-time was hilarious. I liked this quote in particular:

I just said: "you guys are in pretty good shape", and he sort of just agreed, which is fair enough given what was going on.

lmao

Also I've never seen so many babies at the footy. Those baby hoop guernseys are so cute and I commend those parents for brainwashing their kids young. That's the Geelong spirit. Darty would be proud.

Finals nerves / excitement starting to kick in already. Let's go boys!!!

Cameron isn't a tall target and he never has been. David King summed it up perfectly, he's a 6'5 Dustin Martin. Almost all his goals are from snaps or quick shimmy style leads inside 50, he's not the guy you kick too long down the line.

It should't matter anyway, as we don't play that style anymore. We score through precision entries through the corridor where players are on the move, as apposed to the old style of long down the line to a wrestling Hawk/Sav/Stanley.

If it really bothers you Rohan is there as that chop out anyway, as is Danger...but like I said using Cameron in that role doesn't benefit us at all.
The way Cameron is playing is the role Gaz snr would play if he was in the league today.
