Burton can't compete on bigger bodies, it has to be Jonas. But Jonas is coming in for McKenzie, not Burton... Burton's entire role is being axed basically bcos they really only have 2 talls... We're injecting pace into our side and covering 3 injuries at the same time. It's a selection we wouldn't see made last year or any Kenny year, it's clever and if it works, I'll be impressed..

How is he being replaced by Jones when they both played last week?
Burton is being replaced by Burgoyne.

On a fast deck we will be relying even more on speed in the face of deficiencies in height.
In that sense, if that is their approach, then Burgoyne in, Duursma in and to a lesser extent Mead in makes a morsel of sense.

Lord has no form to justify inclusion, but at least he is big and somewhat like for like with Dixon.

If that's the case then it should read managed, not omitted.
Good point but he is named as an emergency.
Another interesting point is the Blues went west last week; where, often a WA trip impacts Melbourne based players the following week.

Obviously getting ready for a big 3 weeks, smart move as long as we don’t **** up our form.

Win coll/adel/geel and we will all be happy as.. would make us a legit flag contender and maybe fav.

Just need melb to do the right thing tomorrow night.

Great to see some good old fashioned melting in here on a Thursday again.
Disappointed for Hayes, reckon he should have got another go, another week of rest for Lycett wouldn't be a bad thing.
Burton is a bit surprising but as a few have noted his intensity has varied a bit.
Perhaps would have played Narkle instead of Mead just because I think he's a bit quicker and a bit more X-factor.

All in all though we've all complained in the past about lack of changes and playing injured players, 6 changes indicates to me that once again the coaching has changed.

I doubt Lycett will go through the rest of the season without being managed. Hayes needs to keep his head up in the SANFL.

*inb4 they plonk him back in a forward pocket in the magooz

I’m not convinced this is the right strategy. I’d nearly done the opposite and rested players against Collingwood instead.

Hear me out, we play our best team against Carlton we win and bank the crucial 4 points. We play our best against Collingwood and it’s still 50/50 at best. And by resting players against Carlton we’ve now made this game a 50/50.

And with our history I think we’ve proven multiple times that it means **** all beating another top team in the home and away, and in the process showing them your full hand. So I would’ve done the experimenting against Collingwood.

Beat Brisbane 01-02-03 during season, losses in finals 01-02. Beat cats in 07 at the cattery and then 119 in gf. Beat Collingwood 02-03 lost in finals. Beat Sydney 03 lost in finals. Beat Richmond 20 lost in finals. Beat bulldogs 21 lost in finals.

If we are saving ourselves for Collingwood and think it’s a big deal beating them and showing our full hand in the minor rounds then history suggests that’s a flawed strategy.
