Carlton naming De Koning clearly makes the selection of Lycett a good move if we want to win this game. As I said, his movement at training without the brace this week was good.

Ollie Lord returning was always on the cards as was the selection of Jonas.

Predicted the return of Duursma and Burgoyne so no surprises there. Sparkle getting dropped was harsh but the fiddling with the team to see who has what it takes with finals looming is to be expected with Dixon, JHF and McKenzie out due to injuries/resting.

Burton getting dropped is for form reasons rather than injury but I think he will be missed.

Can see us dropping this one but overall not a bad selection imho given the options available and opposition. Loss of Dixon is bigger than most people here think. And will be keen to see how our mids go against Carlton without JHF.

Great to see some good old fashioned melting in here on a Thursday again.
Disappointed for Hayes, reckon he should have got another go, another week of rest for Lycett wouldn't be a bad thing.
Burton is a bit surprising but as a few have noted his intensity has varied a bit.
Perhaps would have played Narkle instead of Mead just because I think he's a bit quicker and a bit more X-factor.

All in all though we've all complained in the past about lack of changes and playing injured players, 6 changes indicates to me that once again the coaching has changed.
A bit like last time we played over there, Lycett may not be an in, where instead of Dante; we now have Hayes waiting on the grid line.
I like it we have the courage to make all of these changes, it can only make us more versatile come September.

Losing McKenzie and dropping Burton is wow

Is Lycett straight back in? Surely we wouldn't be silly enough to play him underdone in round 18?

Strange stuff. I guess we're now going with the theory that realistically the players not named Rozee, Houston and Butters don't really matter anyway; those three are enough to beat anybody.

Jonas for McKenzie I can live with that
BUT
Burton for Burgoyne is BULLSHIT!
  • nothing against young Burgoyne but your replacing a 191cm 92kg with a 186cm 70kg defender WTF!
  • Our backline's done
Hope Burton's our Sub!
Burgoyne was brilliant last week and he deserves a spot. Burton has more talent, is taller and is more athletic than Jonas so unless Burton is going to be rested as the unused travelling emergency it makes no sense to me.

Narkle needs a full game but could have helped his cause with a couple of more tackles or a few more pressure acts?

Pressure acts, goal assists, tackles for time on ground very similar to McEntee.

Must be line ball. McEntee might be on notice?

Lack of size in the backline a big concern, with an shallow midfield as well.
I don't mind testing and changing things this time of year, you need enough players ready by the end in case they are needed, but it does show the holes in the list.
Losing Dixon on top of Georgiades would be melt city a year ago so at least we have depth in one area.

If we have a game where we aren't turning over too much, I think we will be ok, but if we end up negative in the turnover stakes the lack of 1:1 defenders will hurt.

Who is the replacement for the Rioli spot here? Burgoyne?

I'm thinking it's essentially Duursma in for Wing Bergman, but then Defence Bergman in for Burton. Mead for JHF with a bit of time in the guts. Lycett/Lord/Jonas for Hayes/Dixon/McKenzie are clear. Which leaves a not-exactly-like-for-like with a small forward out for a running defender.

Good old Thursday vibes. Has been missing for so long 🤣🤣

Wouldn't surprise me if they move Boak to half forward and then play Bergman and Duursma as the primary wingers with Lachie Jones getting the job on Curnow (if they give Jonas that job this game might be over at half time).

Still don't get the Jonas selection. Too slow and small for McKay and Curnow. Probably suited best to Silvagni but Ken's hubris in selecting him likely will see him go to Curnow with Aliir playing as the deepest KPD on McKay.

Perhaps doing our part to help Curnow get the Coleman.

Understand Ollie Lord came in for Dixon but his form in the SANFL has been terrible since he went back (missed last week suspended as well)

My take guess is that Aliir gets Curnow and Jonas is there solely to occupy turf and out body Mckay on forward entries making him less able to spring up to the forward ruck contests.

Expect lots of clumsy tackles and take down marking contests.
