I'll never wish a loss upon us. Once the game starts, I desperately want to win.

That said, I'm 95% confident we lose this because a) we suck and b) it's away.

Think of the greater good for the AFC, its not about winning one game this weekend.

Being 0-10 and then being rolled by the Eagles in R11 could lead to Nicks being sacked.

Imo, Craig actually developed a game plan that worked for a while... til found out.

Not sure Nicks knows what a good game plan looks like.

What a bunch of w***ers.

They are so focused on winning contested ball they are sacrificing key parts of the game. Their idea is to win contested ball by weight of numbers, that’s why we see forwards push up and wingers with a focus on contested ball.

If Nanks focus is to act like an extra mid and win the contested ball then he can’t receive the ball, run, spread and move the ball on quickly to give our forwards a chance.

If our forwards are pushing up to win contested ball, not only aren’t they providing a goal kicking option, their absence means our forwards outnumbered and it’s part of the reason we get smashed by intercept defenders.

Nicks is reverting to the 2022 failed playbook. It’s beyond dumb and it should be enough justification for the club to walk him out the door now. *******s get what they deserve.
It's beyond dumb when given the choice between a proven winning fast attacking game plan & proven losing slow moving game plan... they revert back to the losing one.

It's so beyond stupid... I'm so mad I have paid good money to watch these absolute drongos destroy our season in the 1st month. Now we are in for a long year of going to games watching this rubbish.

Van Berlo does not inspire much confidence in our coaching group.

He better not be our next ****ing coach or it will be the 1st time I give up my membership.

That would be the final straw.

Imo, VB & Burns are too similar.

Whats even worse, is that we are guaranteed to get a few good wins if he is caretaker coach and then the media will be all about him being appointed as full time. :D

I can do that at home with better alcohol & at lower cost.

For the wine lovers I'm finishing off an awesome Kalleske 2018 Tempranillo with spaghetti bolognese (all home made tomato, chill & herbs sauce).... can't get this at Adelaide Oval.

Even if we get within a goal with a minute to go, umpires will pick out frees to Carlton for "reasons."

Or make "mistakes" and then apologise on Monday.

Not that I feel we will be that close.

Umpire: "A Crows player gave me a funny look, so I awarded a free and 50m kick in the goal square for dissent".

You could sample some of Wolff Blass wines while watching the footy in comfort in a centre named after him😉

It does for every club I'm pretty sure

I'm more specifically referring to a regression in any sort of attack from clearance. This guy on Twitter has some great data on this

Here's the change in rankings

Stoppage win - 14th (2021) to 11th (2022) to 9th (2023) to 4th (2024)
Attack from stoppage - 13th to 15th to 6th to 16th
Opposition attack from stoppage - 14th to 16th to 8th to 14th
Intercept generation - 11th to 14th to 7th to 10th
Attack from intercept - 17th to 14th to 9th to 17th
Opposition attack from intercept - 11th to 12th to 6th to 5th

So what Nicks has managed to do is clearly what he's set out to do - increase our stoppage wins. Van Berlo refers to this.

But what Nicks has done in the process is briefly make our offense good, only to immediately revert it to s**t. Our stoppage rankings were mid-table last year, now they are back to trash level (2021-2022 stuff). Not only that, we've also reverted to being trash at preventing opponents from attacking from stoppage. In three of the last four years we have been bottom 6 for both stoppage offense and preventing opposition stoppage offense. That's very very poor.

We are also bad at attacking from intercept and generating intercepts. We have, however, improved at preventing the opposition from attacking from our turnovers.

It's a massive regression in all areas except what Nicks seems to focus on which is, as I said, basic bitch stats like "win clearance"

We were 2nd for scores from intercept in 2023 though, so what is that ranking based on?

Are you talking Board, CEO &/or coaching group?

I certainly don't have confidence that we have a cluey coaching group.

The fact our Board jumped the gun with the contract extension demonstrates clearly they are collectively poor decision makers... even if Nicks were to turn things around as was unnecessary to things became clearer.

Well the Board, for giving Nicks a two year extension after losing in round 1 and cluey coaching group, for failing to be inventive with our midfield mix.

This isn’t 2020 with Crouch and Laird the main players in the midfield, this 2024 and yet those two are still in there. If by some silly chance we actually win the spoon again, all hell will break loose.

Round 7 against Roos is pivotal, Round 11 against Coasters is pivotal and Round 12 against Hawks is pivotal.

I'm pretty sure that stat is the quality of the possession chain immediately after the intercept. Based on GPS position and AFL player ratings.

Where the AFL's "Scores from intercept" (and related) split everything into score from intercept/stoppage/behind based on which was most recent before a score.
