The footy Gods other than the umpiring decision late against the Blues have been pretty good this year.

Got the Lions without Lachie first up.
Simpkin missed with concussion when we played North.
Weightman injured early and no Liberatore against the Dogs.
Richmond and Collingwood with about 6 of their best 22 inured.

Not saying that's the reason we didn't lose those games but it doesn't hurt.
Simpkin? That guy is done and buried.. makes no difference. Richmond suck balls even with a full list.

Ive seen every Peel game this year albeit online. In my opinion Daves has been outstanding for a young defender. His reading of the ball in the air in marking contests is brilliant.

I’ve watched 5 of the 7 games and I definitely wouldn’t say his reading of the ball is brilliant, it’s what you expect from a tall back. This season Blight is averaging 8.7 marks a game vs Davies 3.8…..in the last 4 weeks the divide has got bigger with Blight averaging 9.3 a game against Davies 3.5. At the same time Blight is getting a hell of a lot more ball averaging 18.4 possessions vs Davies 10. Blight has also managed to lay 8 tackles against Davies 4 for the whole season. I m not saying that Davies won’t make it as he is a lot younger than Blight and will developI was responding to someone who said reward Davies with his great form with a spot in the firsts. He has been going ok, but he definitely isn’t show great form. I can post a video of him totally misjudging a mark against Swans and his opponent takes the mark as he jumps under it, but I think that is going a bit far

Traeger Park will be the 24th venue Freo have played a AFL game at.

Only 8 times have won a game at a Venue first time we played.

Whitten Oval, Melbourne - 1995
Waverley Park, Melbourne - 1995
S.C.G, Sydney - 1995
Docklands, Melbourne - 2000
Carrara Stadium, Gold Coast - 2009
Optus Stadium, Perth - 2018
Cazaly's Stadium, Cairns - 2020
Norwood Oval, Adelaide - 2023
We won the first game at the WACA too.

I haven't looked at this point closely, but one may be playing lockdown and the other more intercept. It is always Davies that get's the job on Sokol and the likes, not Blight. As far as I can remember. Either way, Blight is likely to get picked up and it will be interesting to see how Murphy goes with the extra responsibility of having to stand a bigger stronger player, not a smaller type.

Draper will go back to peel as soon as Cox is back in the AFL team, so Murphy’s role probably remains the same as it is now

True. We should get a look for a week or two. I would like to see Draper tried elsewhere. We have quite a few back options. Would like to see him given the opportunity to use a bit of his flair. Not everyone wants to be a defender.

Someone else said it already, but this meaningless without the context of what role they were playing. You could cherry pick stats to say Draper was playing better than Pearce for example.

Show me a stat that says Draper is playing better than Pearce. I didn’t cherry pick, I used multiple stats not just one and NONE show that Davies is playing better than Blight. They play very similar roles it’s not like one is a midfielder and one is a back pocket. Also I watched the games and it confirms what the stats say.

Big difference between playing on a bunch of plumbers, builders and teachers in the WAFL to playing on Curnow, Naughton, Cameron, etc.

If Davies plays this year it probably means we've been hit by more injuries and not playing finals.

It is really a discussion about Blight vs Davies. Some of the posters on here think Blight is better. We are just pointing out the different age and the different roles they are playing. Freo also probably didn't rate Blight as Afl quality a couple of years ago when we recruited Davies, who to be fair was an interceptor as a junior and is being taught how to play more accountably.

One is still 19 the other is 23. Much bigger and stronger.

I acknowledged that in my original post and also said I’m not ruling Davies out but people who use words like “brilliant” and “superb” to explain how Davies is currently playing are deluded

Meh, I think he's been great. WAFL stats are limited but from the eye test Blight is not taking or winning more 1v1s than Davies and Davies is getting the best forward each week. One is Pearce, one is Ryan.

I'd also play Blight over Draper and am big wraps for him but he's not on our list so it doesn't matter. If he doesn't get picked up by a team.in the MSD with what teams are paying for KPDs the AFL is cooked.

I stand by Davies being fantastic and deserves a go ahead of his direct competition who could use a spell

Ok. He has been pretty solid this year and improving all the time. Still has the one brain fade a game but that is less than it used to be. Personally, I think Murphy is the one to watch. Looking forward to seeing him against bigger forwards in the wafl rather than the smalls. Can't get a full picture of until then.

It actually started with someone saying we need to reward Davies with his great form at Peel. I just stated that in the 5 out of 7 games I’ve watched, he isn’t playing “Great” and referenced Blight as a comparison.

Don't think Draper was playing any better than Davies. Can't imagine it would have made a great deal of difference which one was chosen. Davies is better defensively than Draper but Draper has more class. I hope we don't bore that out of him and let him play a more creative position as well as lockdown defender. Justin always reckons he wants players to play in their preferred position. Well Draper made it clear he didn't want to be just a lockdown defender.

Well I disagree, I think Davies is going ok, but not Great. But I also acknowledge there is very little difference between him and Draper at the moment. but I think Draper’s ceiling is way higher

Davies plays way more of a negating role and in that role yes I think he is very good.

Actually thought JOM was ok compared to many others

Emmett simply has to go. He's not even wafl standard right now.

Johnson continues to add absolutely nothing, but JL loves him, so he's stupidly safe again

Out - Emmett
In - Freddy
Does Walters have an issue with his hand? Wears that glove. He seems to have trouble fumbling. One moment in the last where he charged through collected the ball nicely but as he zig zagged through inexplicably just dropped the ball. Something going on there. If he has an injury now would be a good time to get that sorted either via rest or surgery. He is going no where except to retirement the way he is tracking. If that hand is a problem I’d bring Sturt into the team. Emmett devoid of confidence and was sub except for that early injury to Freddy so must be on thin ice.

I agree with others that spudley moment where stuffed the bounce and then made worse by trying to get through a tackle was the last straw.

I like how he charges at speed through tackles, I like his pressure and tackling intent but decision making with ball in hand has no composure and everything is rushed. That was evident with that bounce was all skittery skattery. Often like his i50 entries just so messy at times.
Too bad Tom wasn’t afforded the same time to dispose of the ball as Daicos. Plus, he did appear to get the handball in.

Would love to see at least one of Voss/Sturt/Coop in for at least one of Walters/Emmett. I know Freddy’s back, but I’m not sure I can handle another week of the same players up forward

The more that I think about it, the more that I like the idea of us going for a taller forward line swapping Emmett for Voss.
