Probably; but I'm not as convinced the path is that linear.
I wouldn’t say it’s linear either. But the only players he could reasonably replace (like for like) also excelled in the second half last night. It’s hard to imagine him performing better than any of them.

We also have Dangerfield, C.Guthrie, Blicavs and Clark to return. Can’t see how Hardie gets a look in now.

To check if it hit the post on the full or on the bounce

On the bounce is a throw in
On the full is a free kick to Richmond

Better option would have been for Stengle to not take the snap shot and let Conway go back for a kick on goal
To be fair it was a split second and 99% of the time those are called back.

Ted been good too.

Yeah it is a score review system, not a throw in / OOBOTF review system. Otherwise why not review every potential OOBOTF?

Maybe because so close to our goal? A Tiggs free would disadvantage us compared to a throw in. The same context would apply at their end. I don't mind it, if the dopey umpire is beyond any self confidence for something that occurred right under his nose in the goal teeth. They're Grand standers, anyway.

Dopey umps might need a body guard .

At the time it felt like Stengle was happy to take the risk of having a shot & if it went through all good, but if it didn't that they'd then call it back - only thing is they didn't call it back

It's kinda funny how that was deemed ok as play on but a few weeks ago when Cameron got on the end of the kick from Clark and soccered through a goal, they called it back deeming "no advantage"

Exactly- we got stonkered both times.

My favourite piece of commentary for the night was Luke Darcy saying how brave Richmond's midfield had been but they were "getting worn down by more mature bodies".

The next centre bounce was Nankervis (29), Baker (26), Graham (26) and Martin (32) vs Conway (21), Holmes (21), Bruhn (21) and Bowes (26).
It just comes back to this ridiculous assumption that if you're good, you must be old, and if you're bad, you must be young.

Happens all the time here because we have an industry that can't be bothered doing the slightest bit of research, and it's even worse on Seven.

The likes of Montagna & King on Fox can rub people the wrong way sometimes (myself included) but whether they're right or wrong, you can tell they've at least spent some time looking for the information they're talking about.

Channel 7 just looks like a three stooges skit most nights.

Been thinking about the game and Scotty’s press conference. He seems to be telegraphing to fans the following:

- we may or may not win this year, but the talent coming through is very good and these 19 to 21 year old guys playing together is essential (Clark, Bruhn, Holmes, Conway, Henry, Neale, SDK, O. Henry, etc)

- we will have a decent crack while we still have Hawkins, Danger, Cameron, Stewart and Blitz

Enjoy the ride. We are still a chance to win this while rebuilding on the run.

I think C Scott is just being cagey. Yeah there’s been a few hiccups the last month but 3 close losses of the 4 games lost was never panic stations.

It’s wide open. Reckon there’s 6-7 teams who could genuinely win the flag. We lost 4 in a row and we’ll finish the round in the top 4. Dees being mounted against their will Vs Freo. Swans have gone early but there’s no medals in May / June. Giants were off the boil. Bombers still can’t be trusted. Carlton got and cold.

Do I think the Cats will win it - no. But I didn’t think we’d win at the midway point of ‘22.

I think the later. Just for those slightly older guys they see no value in playing VFL half. For the younger guys on hold backs they see it as better than full rest and in unlikely (very unlikely) event of (unexpected) late change they are going to be sub anyway - and are young!

Up until last night our holdover has always been a “managed” mid age or older player to freshen up. I am hoping it is a good sign for Mannagh they are expecting him to play AFL next week - but don’t know

Hope so too-oconnor was a holdover and played afl the next week so its possible especially with henry out.

Neale is a curious one. Our structure doesn't seem right with so many forwards, specifically KPFs. An extra midfielder/runner instead makes sense.

Yet if you look at Neale's output it hasn't been bad at all. 8 goals and 3 goal assists from 4 games (2.75 goals/assists per game).

9.5 disposals and 5 marks a game is perfectly fine for a forward playing his 6th-9th AFL games.

Then curiously, Hawkins has been back in the goals/assists (6 over his past 2 games) since Neale came into the side.

Is the experiment actually working?
It's a win/win in that respect.

We're getting valuable games into Neale who's actually offering something as well.

As others have said, with young talls you almost accept that you're playing a man down for their first 50 games or so, but 2 goals a game, some assists and marks around the ground is more than enough at this stage.

We might have won another flag if Sav could have done that every week, and while admittedly we didn't have Cameron, we persisted with him with a much lesser return.

If he's getting experience while making Tomahawk medium rare rather than charcoal just by proxy, I'd say we'd have to persist.

Particularly when we're intent on playing Cameron anywhere but the forwardline, we need some targets down there that can actually leap and bring the ball to ground.

Thats true and might be why we take duncan there next week.

I was more talking about finals at the mcg this year..duncan is crucial when we start moving the ball quickly (like the second half last night) as his kicking can create angles and space, but if we turn the ball over at the mcg because of his lack of legspeed he struggles to get back to defend and im not sure we can cover it on the bigger ground (definitely one of him and tuohy has to go in that scenario if not both).
Duncan's kicking is an asset on the G too though where space opens up. The game against Carlton was a good example. Duncan will struggle when our team are not in rhythm but then if that's the case we will be losing anyway. You can't just stack your team with players who might perform better if we are being dominated. You need to maintain your strengths and be proactive. Every time we make a comeback Duncan is there getting our game going.

I dont go to the games havent for many years so im just a TV viewer , and ive only read the last page of this thread

But im so glad next weeks game Geel are not playing at Kardinia Park - the last 3 games their the most horrid 1st halfs you will see in your life

And GWS who also had a number of A graders missing from their team that day - and they should have been 10 goals ahead of Geel at h/time

2 Injury smashed sides and a mentally piss week Port Ade and all 3 have wiped the floor with Geel in the 1st half at Kardinia Park

I will be so glad when the Cats are back at the MCG , a ground Geel have historically played well at since the 1960s including those glorious 11 wins in a row against the Horrible Hawks

Only chance we have is if the swans still have mental demons with us, which they very well may have after the humiliation in the 2022 GF and then an almost 100pt flogging early last year in Geelong.
Sure Swans have mental demons with Cats.
Sure bet Swans will be trying to exorcise them.
They will be seeking revenge and humiliation.
If they get it next week, they will be gettable later.

That is how my (relatively new to footy) wife looks at our chances. Utterly ridiculous (except she has beaten me in four of the last five tipping comps!).
Kudos to Mrs Tuggacat 👏 Is she a Geelong supporter?
