Imagine the outrage! Swans recruit Tippett, Buddy, win the flag by beating the Pies in the Grand Final, keep the COLA in some form and then trade a non best 22 player for draft pick no. 1. I was so amused with this thought that I missed my bus stop and had to walk an extra 15 mins to get home...
Perhaps some form of arbitration/intervention from the AFL to ensure that trades are equitable as far as possible would help. Serious enough that we are losing some quality young players but if we get screwed on the trade as well then our bad position just compounds.
For example, if the WCE...
This point can't be under-estimated.
We don't have the same salary cap dollars of all other non AFL state teams, the immediate upside of the Suns/chance to play with Gary, we are not pressing for the flag nor do we offer the go home factor to many on other lists.
Kerr has his work cut out.
If GWS finish bottom what would we need to do to get our hands on pick 1? Would Karnezis to a Melbourne club and Polec to Adelaide in return for two experienced players to GWS have any chance? Maybe our first round pick as well.
I watched the last three quarters of the Southport match and Ryan Harwood was the clear standout performer and his leadership was also first class. I hope his efforts will be rewarded on Friday night.
I am not too disappointed that Jolly got off because I would rather him in the Pies team than Huddo. Lots of practical inside knowledge rests with Huddo particularly if Longer plays.
Only the very best of teams can see-off the type of effort and pressure that Brisbane applied to Essendon on the weekend.
Carlton are not one of the very best teams in the AFL and if we can replicate the Essendon standard we will win this one.
Thanks for the preview Tomfc.
I am looking for so many changes this week that I wondered if I should be on the vent thread. I call it the first quarter syndrome.
Out: McGrath Cornelius Bewick Paparone Clarke (only if Maguire fully fit) Green
In: Docherty Lisle Crisp Karnezis Maguire Black

What looks promising is Sam's capacity and ability to influence and turnaround matches not only against AFL quality opposition like the Swans but also in the NEAFL final's series. He seems to revel in big matches and it will be interesting to see how this translates at AFL level.
I think if the Courier Mail ran a similar survey/poll on the Broncos it would be very negative also.
The question is would they have the courage to do so?
Thought all the rookies did well today Michael, Bourke, Newell and Hayes all impressive. IMO Hayes was one of the best Lions players today. The top up players also deserve a pat on the back for a job well done.
It will be interesting to see if we have the want and capacity to play with the high intensity and pressure needed to achieve this. Redden in will help but do we have enough physicality (mongrel :)) throughout the team to carry this off? I am hoping so.
Yeo has been very impressive in the NAB Cup to date and I hope he continues the form into tomorrow's final to seal a place in the round 1 team. He is a good mark, only needs one touch and makes good calm decisions in congestion. Seems to kick well of both sides and certainly is very pacey and...
Not much support for Lisle on the board. I thought he presented well against the Hawks in difficult conditions and against a strong opponent (rough head). Only played half a match IIRC. Looks more mobile than Martin with arguably better foot skills. I think he will play this weekend and I hope...
If we make the final POBT would we be better placed playing in Melbourne rather than at Metricon? Would reward Vic members and draw a larger crowd for a finals like atmosphere. I for one have the Suns only above the Pies on the hate ladder and just don't want them to benefit in any way from any...
Arrived at 8am for a 40 minute warm-up and had to leave before 9am so saw about 15 mins.:(
In that time I thought both Polec and Redden were strong for the red team and Lisle was very prominent early. Beams also red had some good touches. Yeo was on Ace first-up IIRC. Martin's snap goal was...
My team for Round 1 is

I am expecting improved performances in 2013 but this may not translate into a...
Went to training yesterday. First time at this and comments will be limited but thought
Staker looked impressive. Saw him stand Maguire and his physique was just as imposing. Didn’t realise he was as big a unit.
McKeever was very mobile and has excellent hands/marking ability. Looks to...
