Should the Gold Coast consider trading Ablett back to a Vic Club?

I fall in the camp that Gold Coast plays a bit better without Ablett. Not that I think its his fault or because his selfish or anything. Its just I feel as a young Gold Coast player there would always be that thought, that they can and possibly should let Gary do something, whereas when he's...

    Tendulkar - The Greatest Ever?

For me the past 12-18 months have lifted Tendulkar well above any other batters in his era's. That is Ponting, Kallis, Lara, whoever. To do what he has done for as long as he has is remarkable. That is not to say he isn't the best cricketer of his time (I think Murali, Warne, Mcgrath and...

Family & Relationships Visitors dropping in

I love a good pop in, often do it if I'm driving past a mates house, but generally just for a quick chat, 5-20 minutes. Staying for 5-6 hours and taking up a day is pretty strange.

    Changes For the sydney test

I don't think 5000 would be to bad a crowd on day 4, given the game will probably be well over.

3rd Vodafone Ashes Test: Australia vs England @ the WACA [THURS-MON] Day 2

I wouldn't mind seeing Smith given a few overs after lunch. Little to no pressure, if he lands them in the right spot he could take some wickets, if not take him off after a couple of overs.

3rd Vodafone Ashes Test: Australia vs England @ the WACA [THURS-MON] Day 2

Remember when Dizzy and Steve Waugh damn near killed each other going for a catch. Wasn't smart, but is sure as hell showed how desperate and unforgiving the Australian cricket team was at that time. Now they stand around and look at each other.

Is it the end of an era in Australian cricket?

It is the end of an era, but not the end of greatness. Its the end of a time that started at the end of the 07 Ashes where we were one of 4 or so teams that were fairly good test cricket teams. It is the start of the time where we are one of worse test teams going around.

What's honestly worse - our batting or bowling?

If England were scoring 500 to 600 runs and we bowled them out I would say the batters. But i'm going to give it to the bowlers because they haven't been getting wickets at all. England just bat until they figure they don't need to at all. Just makes it totally impossible to win a test. Also...

    Changes for Perth

I don't know why people are saying we're a batter short. Sure, the line up is thin, but in 2 tests we've taken 16 wickets, and only 6 in 2 innings. We need some options, especially given how inconsistent our line up is if we have Johnson, Siddle and Smith playing.

    Changes for Perth

And in form opener Hughes goes out for a duck. I think dropping him was wrong, but bringing him back into the test team when he is completely out of form is a disaster waiting to happen.

    Mike Hussey's Second Innings Dismissal

Clarke's dismissal was the opposite of the risky shot, it was what happens when you stop playing your natural game. Normally he would've pulled that ball for 4, but since it was last over of the day he thought i'll just try and do a dinky little dab for a single. Hussey stuffed up the...

2nd Vodafone Ashes Test: Australia vs England @ Adelaide Oval (FRI-TUES) [LUNCH DAY 4 - 5]

You'd think so, but i reckon the selectors might use Katich's injury as an excuse to keep him in. You don't want to fiddle with the team to much.

The rising Australian rules football pay packet and the decline of cricket in Australia

I don't think its the money so much as the pathway. As a kid with AFL aspirations there is a pretty clear path to an AFL career. TAC cup, then the draft and your with one of 16 clubs. Roughly 600 fully professional players at any one time. For cricket, you stick it out, hope to make it to...

1st Vodafone Ashes Test: Australia v England @ GABBA (Thur-Mon) [After tea Day 1 -End Day 2]

Re: 1st Vodafone Ashes Test: Australia v England @ GABBA (Thur-Mon) [After tea Day 1 -?] I don't know why everyone is calling for North to be dropped. He scored a ton last innings in India didnt he? (sarcasm helps lessen the anger)

Society/Culture Deja vu 1967? Should Aboriginals be recognised in the Constitution?

I'm against it caus its unnecesary, like the little ode to mateship John Howard wanted to slip in during the republican debate. I really can't see a purpose for it other than for symbolism.

    Nielsen launches tirade at critics

I was thinking about this the other day, and I reckon Waugh had one crucial difference. Yes he would back the players to the hilt, but he would also demand a lot of them. Waugh would back a batter, but then late in the day when a wicket fell Waugh wouldn't let them dodge their responsibilities...

    2010 Victorian Election - 27 November

With regards to PT I think they did act to late, but probably since the Eddington report I think they have been reasonably on the ball. Can definately understand people not seeing it this way and after 10 years it may be time for a change. But in regards to alternate strategies, Greens have...

    2010 Victorian Election - 27 November

Thats the point, the rail network has not been adequately maintained for a long time. IMO the government was to slow to move on upgrading rail, but it is making a big investment now to make up for a generation of neglect. As for the Liberals and greens not overriding councils on planning...

3rd ODI: Australia v Sri Lanka @ Brisbane (Sun D/N)

Different players play different roles, but an individual player needs to have some flexibility in their game. Clarke doesn't. He can't accelerate an innings when he needs to. This often results in a situation where we are at the 40 over mark, wickets in hand, Clarke is set and he is incapable...

Can someone explain why they played Doherty, droppped him and are now playing him again? What did they learn about Haurtiz that they didn't already know from the SCG game?

2nd ODI: Australia v Sri Lanka @ SCG (Fri D/N)

That planning is a whole lot of what is wrong with aussie cricket. To into plans about who is going to play what role instead of just picking the best 11 players. I am almost hoping we lose the Ashes 5-0. Changes need to be made at the very top of Cricket Australia.

Who's idea was it to schedule a match between the Melbourne Cup and Oaks Day? Almost as bewildering as our selection policy.

J Howards views on everything.. will it include how he lost his seat ?

The only reason David Hicks is a free man today is because his continued arrest without trial became a political problem for John Howard. It was a very convenient deal the U.S. government, Howards great allies struck that set Hicks free a couple of months after a federal election.

"Water until 2018, and it didn't cost $9bn" - Are desalination plants a huge waste of money?

Wouldn't surprise me, not the same as having a lot of water though. Australia's rainfall varies much more than Europe's. As a result dams have to be bigger to be able to hold more water when it does rain, for the dry years when it doesn't. I think it is something like when designing a damn in...

Murray river. Save or forget ?

Realistically there needs to be cuts to the amount of water taken out for irrigation. Part I find interesting is that most farmers have probably been recieving less water for the past 10 years than what the proposed reductions have been. Will be interesting to see how it plays out, both in the...

Because Carlton and Richmond have turned the opening thursday night fixture into a massive event (despite most games being crap so far) and deserve to keep it.

    Pairing the Speaker

If the coalition was against it they shouldn't have agreed to it. I assume Gillard and co did get it in writing? As for the actual arrangement, generally wouldn't make a difference, can see why it is necessary in the current situation.
