Agree with both these posts. The one memory that sticks in my head for Dylan is his game with 17 1%ers or something ridiculous like that. He was amazing. His body will be a concern, but I think he should be able to get past his issues.
I hear you, but consider he's been on the list for a while now and still only 88kgs. He's not the gorilla-wrangler we need IMO, he's Roberton's build. He's perfect for someone with Roo's attributes, but his body is a worry I just can't get past. We don't need another Luke Penny situation.

When considering whether Jack Watts would be a good pick up at the right price, two words continually spring to mind. I don't know if they are valid, but they do make me nervous.

Richard Tambling

High draft choice, was huge disappointment at his original club. Traded to the Crows for a new start and the chance to show the true value of his original high draft pick. By any assessment this hasn't been a huge success for the Crows. You have to wonder whether Watts would go the same route, or that under a new coach, club, role models he would blossom and reach his potential.

I feel so bad for Bling.

This is a kid who was dominating in the centre square as a junior but it was against other kids his size (65-85kgs). His skills were/are elite but he stood out because he was doing it in heavy traffic. Unfortunately he was managed terribly at Richmond in that they boxed him as an Andy McLeod clone when his natural game is more like Chris Judd. Because the Tigers wanted to use his pace, he never really put on the bulk to play as a serious midfielder and thus didn't get the coaching needed. Now the game has passed him by.

It's almost the same for Leroy Jetta. Guy could get 25 touches a week playing in the middle but gets stuck in a forward pocket. He plays it well but he would be so much more effective up the ground. If we could get him cheap I wouldn't be against him taking Milera's spot should he leave. Still prefer Patty K though ;)

Trimming it down to guys I think we could realistically get, at various prices obviously.

Parker and Prestia would probably be the most expensive.

Helalua!! I would pay for his flights and the costs of putting his name on the locker. A great fairytale if it happened.

Who didn't have a high opinion of him..His attitude was enough to support him through his battle with his body..Love to see him back..!!

Might have to look at Tommy Walsh at the end of the year..lol

Loved the Goose. Was holding down CHB against the likes of Johnno Brown at the age of 20, in a team that missed the GF by a kick and was then terrific the following year, at 21, again in a team that made the prelim.

Was pretty much the complete package at CHB. Strong, ultra-courageous, read the play well, strong overhead, thumping kick, great sidestep and don't-argue.

Surely we win one of those GF's if he'd had a regular sort of run with injury.

Same with Bally.

Same with Kosi.

Maybe even same with X and Penny (who is still only 32yo)! :(

Imagine our potential backline of 2009, with no Zac Dawson or Raph Clarke:

B: Gwilt Penny Baker
HB: Fisher Goose Gilbert

What an awesome HB line!

Imagine of Robert Harvey was still playing . But he was 25 and if tony Lockett was full forward but he was really bill mohr. And if jack Steven was Ian Stewart . There is too many IF'S in most of the conversation at the moment.

Mate of mine built like Plugger badly broke his leg back in a 93 pre-season game at Melbourne, twenty years later it still gives him grief..!
Penny was a good pick up from the Doggies, played some good footy for us briefly until his knee was shot..
Good quality defenders don't come around that easy..

Should be ok , you'll be talking about the tooth fairy being drafted soon , I hear he has a raking left foot, big tank

Id love to have Goose back at the club the year after he retires. List him as a rookie ala Ben Hudson and play him in the last game of the season if need be. Just get him to 100 on the off chance his kid is a gun!!

Billings is an excellent prospect for the forward spot, I love his determination and football, but I'd rather take Kelly and hope Kennedy-Harris drops to the 2nd round.

Another Charger (yes I do love the Chargers) option for that role is Aiden Franetic. He won't get much recognition from the media but he's a wonderful player. His attack on the footy is great. He hasn't got that explosive pace from what I've seen, but he can kick goals and find the pill.

Do you see him being picked up by anyone?

Billings? Most definitely. He'll go first round, probably top 10.
Kennedy Harris? Undoubtedly, he'll be a second round selection in my eyes. He's been a standout in the TAC Cup and his upside is great.
Franetic? It's looking likely that he'll be drafted. He's been chosen in the Metro U18 squad, so he is clearly rated highly. His placement will change throughout the year, I'm still not sure where he'll end up.

Where does it say that? It says Lindsay Gilbee think they deserve another priority pick.
And maybe we should be credited with the 09 & 10 GF, due to some bad luck..
FFS Gilbee, your club also needs to take responsibility for it's own drafting/trading & development..
It was only four years ago the doggies were in a Preliminary final, you've bottomed out..
Cop it sweet & take on the challenge of re-grouping & climbing back up the ladder, like the Saints are..!!

Would not have thought they need one, but at least if they get one they will not burn some poor kid with shitehouse devolpment like Melbourne
Warning: Long post because I've been thinking about this for a while

I wouldn't think a first round draft pick is much safer at Footscray. Bulldogs have had a pretty poor run with first round picks, combination of drafting, development, management and just bad lack.

From 2000-2010
Jordan McMahon (pick 10 in 2000) - Best thing he did for the club was get traded to Richmond for pick 19
Sam Power (pick 10 in the 2001 superdraft) - Lasted 5 years then traded for a song to North where he lasted two.
Tim Walsh (pick 4 in 2002) - Who?
Adam Cooney (pick 1 in 2003) - Gun cut down by degenerative knee injury (was good to see him back only for his body to give out again).
Farren Ray (pick 4 in 2003) - Never really kicked on for them, got traded to us.
Ryan Griffen (pick 3 in 2004) - Gun but worth noting he got taken two picks before Franklin.
Tom Williams (pick 6 in 2004) - Bizarre move, using pick 6 in the draft on a rugby convert with only a handful of games under his belt. Another crippled by injury.
Shaun Higgins (pick 11 in 2005) - Also permanently injured.
Andrejs Everitt (pick 11 in 2006) - Traded to Sydney after three years, what really hurts is he got taken immediately before Frawley and Riewoldt
Jarrad Grant (Pick 5 in 2007) - Hasn't kicked on, bolted way too high considering the calibre of his draft year (first rounders picked after include the likes of McEvoy, Dangerfield, Rioli, Ebert and Harry Taylor)
Ayce Cordy (Father-son, pick 14 in 2008) - Overpaid a bit thanks to our father-son bid but he's still young and got potential
Christian Howard (pick 15 in 2009) - Bolted up due to footskills, too early to call.
Mitch Wallis (Father-son, pick 22 in 2010) - Looks the goods but as a father-son it was more a yes or no selection rather than looking at the draft pool.
Clay Smith (pick 17 in 2011), Jake Stringer (pick 5 in 2012) and Jackson Macrae (pick 6 in 2012) all look good but it's early.

They seem to have this habit of pulling the trigger on kids they really like in case they're not there for the next pick, much like our Brad Howard selection. They've had at least one first round draft pick every year since 2000, a lot of them very early, and not much to show for it.

LOL Lyon was prepared to move hell or high water to get Everett stupid stubborn thick bastard. Got nothing for Ball because Lyon wanted Everett. He had Tom Lynch who has now been proven to be better in just about any role Everett can play. Too busy looking over the fence to envy what the other clubs had.

Apologies if this has been raised before... but what do people think about having a crack for Colin Sylvia as a free agent? The main issue would appear to be the possibility that he would contravene a ndp ("no d*******s policy").

However he would come for nothing in free agency and plays in a position that we are struggling at.... mid/forward.

This year he's 27 yo and averaging 18.1 possessions, 5.1 marks 0.9 goals and 3.6 tackles. Compare with Terry milera who is 25 and averages 11.8 disposals, 3.5 marks, 1.0 goals and 1.8 tackles.

The whispers seem to suggest that Schneids may not go on another year (and at any rate is injury-prone), Milney is a 50/50 bet to retire, Milera will probably be delisted as could TDL, Saad may not be the gun we hoped and Markworth will be coming back from an ACL and is at any rate unproven at AFL level. For next year we have Riewoldt, 2nd Tall (Maister/Lee) and Saad as almost definites in the forward line but then 3 spots free.... one for a resting mid, one for a young up and comer (Minchington/Markworth) and for mine one left for a more experienced player e.g. Sylvia.

Another issue may be $$ in the salary cap, however if Milne and Schneids retire I could see this freeing up around $400-500k which is probably what Sylvia would command.
