12 months is a long time in footy.

I really really hope we can get in Boyd's ear and make us our preferred club at the end of next season.

If we finish bottom as expected we will hold all the aces. Pick 1 in pre-season draft as the threat given he is uncontracted if the deal is looking shaky.
I hate to say it but Essendon will be our major challenger for pick 1 in the drafts next year.

Would spew for weeks on end if they finished last because of their blatant cheating & then got Boyd with pick 1.

Unless it comes off, Alberti and Gordon are going to look like complete dills...

Not happening - they have played this terribly.

Lost their captain, lost their coach, made idiots of themselves over Boyd.

if they don't trade Griffen, how will he walk back into that club?

Dogs a complete rabble.

Cats board mostly saying 21 would be overs for Stanley

I think Stanley has a bright future ahead of him. Has done the hard yards and will now reap some of the rewards. Hope we hang onto him or get a very good pick for him

As others have said, the worst thing that ever happened to Rhys was winning the GF sprint.

Dimma, welcome back. Time to consider officially moving across from the kennel isn't it?

Any news, or thoughts on Saints trading, picks?

Not much news, but I think trading Rhys may come back to bite the cllub.

All that development into a bloke that size, who was always going to take time, and someone else gets the benefit.

It's like Minson for us - 3 or 4 years ago he was playing in the magoos, but last year was AA.

Not that I want to talk Dogs stuff at the moment.

I'm just about over footy altogether, actually :(

Pick 21 seems alright, but Bains saying that a number of clubs have enquired about Stanley. If we could push inside top 20 for Stanley it would be a massive bonus. And just like keeping pick 1 if we can't trade, worst case in this scenario is we keep Stanley.

Agree that other clubs would undoubtedly say take pick 21 and run. On the surface it is more than reasonable, but opposition supporter don't know the background to Stanley's career like we do. If you look at it more closely it is no longer so obvious. He is finally settled into the right position, finally has got his body right, the missing piece now is a team that actually kicks it to him.

I think this is a really smart play by Geelong, they share the footy around & play fast footy. Stanley will be a very nice fit, his output for Geelong is likely to be way higher than what it has been for us. Don't be surprised in the footy public changes their tune in 1-2 years and starts saying WTF were Saints thinking giving up Stanley for pick 21. Cue Barrett laying the boots in 12 months from now.

This will absolutely happen. No doubt for me.

Or pick 21 is another Dunstan and the critics are again eating their words.

So what do we do. Just keep all the players we have and be content with being stone motherless last - and by a long long margin?

That's unfair framing, though. Trading Stanley doesn't get us off the bottom. If that player we get at 21 isn't as good as Stanley was this year next then we effectively go backward next year. That may not be the result long term, but saying that being last should be the motivation is illogical.

Absolutely. I seriously don't understand it. The club has reiterated numerous times that talls take longer and it's a fact we know about footy. If Rhys had played nearly 100 games like Zac Clarke has, then I would agree that maybe it was time to look at it, but he just hit 50 and a season of those were down back.

It makes absolutely no sense to me.

It's very interesting to watch supporters here when they smell the blood in the water.

what about this:

Carlton: Pick 6 & 28 -> Jaksch, 19 & 40

STK: Pick 1 & 41 -> Pick 4, 7 & 28

Stk: Pick 28 & Stanley -> Pick 13 & 54

End up with: 4, 7, 13, 22, 54, 60

Pick 21 for Stanley sounds amazing if Dons only get 17 for Ryder.... I'll back our club in whatever they do. I think if it were the other way, we wouldn't throw 21 at Stanley in a rebuild. But he's largely untapped and could be a key piece for Geelong. End of the day we get pick 21, but just depends how the club see our forward line coming together as we move ahead.
