We tried to offload Longer but no one would take our offer of pick one and Longer as they were paired together :)
BS you've usually got the good oil mate so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but this sounds like, well, BS. Why would we trade a player we traded in a year ago and just extended the contract of? Unless you were joking?

Starting to agree with people, not a huge dissapointment if we do trade Stanley.

Its not like we are competing and need a specialist 2nd Ruck/Fwd role.

The lack of one might also encourage them to join us as FA or trades over the next couple of years.

Fact is Pick 21 is a good good return for Rhys. We should take!

Maybe because we don't want to trade Hickey?
i dont want to trade him either but shouldn't the articles say their chasing him first?

as i said, i have no idea why they arnt chasing hickey over stanley
Hickey isn't a forward/ruck though. Vardy and Clarke are far from sure things, at worst its depth.

I'm keeping the faith in the recruiting dept.

As much as we want to see action NOW I have no doubt there is a structured plan on what they want to achieve this trade period.
If Stanley goes then I think trading pick 1 is more likely to ensure we get a replacement fwd/rk.
To look at the possible Stanley trade in isolation would be silly since we don't have visibility over the rest of the trade / draft strategy.

Maybe Hickey & Longer play the fwd/rk role and Uncle Barrels boy gets a go with #21

One thing for sure, our recruits WILL be more footballer than athlete and they WILL have footskills.

WTF is this hysteria about trading Stanley? We are talking about a guy who has played literally ONE good game of AFL footy in 6 years. If we get offered pick 21 straight I would take it and run. If you asked neutral fans the majority would say we've done well to get that for him.

Agree that other clubs would undoubtedly say take pick 21 and run. On the surface it is more than reasonable, but opposition supporter don't know the background to Stanley's career like we do. If you look at it more closely it is no longer so obvious. He is finally settled into the right position, finally has got his body right, the missing piece now is a team that actually kicks it to him.

I think this is a really smart play by Geelong, they share the footy around & play fast footy. Stanley will be a very nice fit, his output for Geelong is likely to be way higher than what it has been for us. Don't be surprised in the footy public changes their tune in 1-2 years and starts saying WTF were Saints thinking giving up Stanley for pick 21. Cue Barrett laying the boots in 12 months from now.

I keep saying it; we'll need a pick before #19 if we want my boy IMO. Carlton will be all over him.

Maybe they are after him to make Stan and The Blitz the ultimate prototype ruck duo??

Might get more than #21 if there is genuine competition for him.

Get #18 and beat the Scum to RM

Or pick 21 is another Dunstan and the critics are again eating their words.

So what do we do. Just keep all the players we have and be content with being stone motherless last - and by a long long margin?

They'd have to give us 13 to out bid Geelong. Is he worth that much?
Life after Sandilands?! Is a better ruck than Clarke and Hannath...

Not at all, agree we have to take a risk. I would prefer that risk be Armo, particularly if we could land pick 12. More currency and inside mids are easier to replace, and I don't see him getting that much better from here. If pick 14 was offered for Stanley, that would be the tipping point towards yes for me. Very hard to turn that down, but I highly doubt Geelong will cough that up.

No. We just have to be smart at the trade table and trade to our advantage.

So why is this trade not to our advantage?

We have Longer, Hickey, Pierce, Holmes.

We get Petracca
We keep Armo
W keep Steven

We get two players @ 21 and 22

We get Membrey in the PSD

How are we not advantaged?

It will take the same amount of time for Peter Wright to come on and by that time he will be so traumatised by being the new whipping boy he will need therapy. Big guys take a long time and at 60 games he is just getting going.
