Can confirm I saw Hickey getting a coffee in Bentleigh with....

his girlfriend.

Well, we hope it was his girlfriend or you've just given him questions to answer! ;)

Wouldn't surprise me if he lasted til our picks after that.
Seems recruiters are fickle bunch

i dont think they're fickle, more so the media and people reporting on the draft crop

i reckon they would have had this sussed during the champs. if an everyday punter like me can see he's not a bonafide mid but catches peoples eye because of the resemblance to whats in vogue right now with dustin martin, imagine what someone like trout would see who does it for a living/is much better at it than you and i. with all the footage/information he has at his disposal.

i noticed when watching the game vs WA over here at subi, my eye often would go to him, due to his size and haircut. but what he was actually doing was pretty meh if i'm being honest.

question mark would be how much was his heart in it given the two queensland clubs with high picks. previous beep test results would be more interesting

I' m in Greece at the moment (9.00 am is mid afternoon in Aus) so I'm really lucky - I get to check trade tracker and then know that SFA happened.

Makes for a quick read!!!!

Not so from next Tuesday when it will be constant refresh!!!

On K107 using BigFooty.com mobile app
C U next tuesday!

Don't have time to respond to every post as I have certainly ruffled a few feathers and only have 15 minutes to punch this out then I am off to Thailand for a couple of weeks. This one is the last one I could see, so here goes. A couple of points before I answer your question more directly:
Good post there saintbill.........and fair enuf with what you have said......drafting/trading can be a huge lottery.

Hope you had a WOW of a time in Thailand by the time you've read this...I mean...how can you not in a place like that!.........

I called the trade whisperer out on another tweet that says he was at Etihad. Looks like he's deleted his original tweet again.

It's clearly not even a person in the media. He doesn't even get anything remotely close to correct unless he's going off someone else's report.

He keeps telling me he's going to block me too, but he's yet to do it. Must just love the followers.

its def not names people have thrown around like purple, mclure or cleary, where would they have the time for that shit. they have paid for jobs and a name

not sheahan or nixon either but i think they know who it is and could be working with them

Melt time.

This and all of the other 4 million posts similar to this are complete and utter bull****.

Not one of the Elite, A Grade, life changing midfielders wanted to leave their clubs, we were into them, clearly offered them deals but that didn't sway them and they decided to stay put.

WHAT ELSE CAN THE CLUB DO?

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HELP?

Why not go and purchase a gun and go grab Josh Kelly, hold it to his head and ask him to sign with us. If Ameet is uncomfortable with this approach, get another gun and point it at him and tell him that it's happening.

The club clearly wanted to attack free agency but when nobody wants to leave, what are they supposed to do about it?

If you can't answer that question then there is no point in whining about it.

Our fall back plan has to be to go to the draft and try and draft our own talent.

Richmond didn't buy Cotchin, Rance, Martin and Riewoldt, the only A Graders on their list - they drafted them and developed them. None of the successful teams buy their wins, they build them.

Grow a team together that wants to win together and is willing to sacrifice millions of dollars per year to stay with their mates because they value winning together as a team more than the money.

Josh Kelly would put us closer to a premiership than not having him. But Billings, Gresham, Ross, Acres, maybe McCartin and many others being happy and wanting to be part of this team and not being tempted when another team throws money at them - that's the real key to premiership success.

Have a wonderful day.

I agree in principle, but rather than our only alternatives being:
A. Hitting the draft or
B. Pointing guns at people

...I'd like to present option C, which i raised a bit over a year ago:

I think the club need to forget about ASSUMING we can use free agency to fill the A grade midfielder gap we desperately need fixed.

Sure we could land a big free agent fish so I'm not saying don't try.... But the club need to read the writing on the wall that the chances of it happening are tiny.

So we need a decent plan B or else we'll just be stuck with a pile of money and a bog average midfield.

I think we'll need to follow collingwoods lead and trade aggressively for a Treloar type deal this year or next year.

Next year is probably better, because it keeps the tiny chance of getting fyfe afloat- and we don't really need an imported A grade mid (or 2?!) until 2018+

But the main strategic thing to consider is that our otherwise excellent 5 year plan assumes (and largely hinges on):

money = free agent.

The way that free agency is being used by A grade guns (or more accurately NOT used by guns) suggests that our plan needs a serious review.

Basically i think we should offer:
A grade money (circa 1mill/year) AND
A grade level draft picks (circa 2 firsts with a 2nd rounder back)

... for a kid who isn't YET A grade; but we think is likely to be.

What would this look like in 2017?

Guys like oliver, bont, cripps are out because they are already obviously A grade and their clubs wouldn't trade them for even 2 firsts.

So we would have to take on some risk and target someone LIKE Taranto with an offer of a million a year x 5 and offer GWS picks 7 & 8 with a 2nd back for him.

Remember with the cap increase; ~1mill is the new ~800k.

If we trade Hickey it'll be for the right price. And it will be, because he's also not going to leave unless there's a chance of best 22 action. In that case, said team would pay up for him.

If we did trade Hickey, I'm sure we will manage with Pierce & Holmes. But I'd be tempted to give Marshall a run, if Longer went down. Nankervis came in after 12 games and had a serviceable year. Marshall has 1 game, a year of AFL development, but years of VFL prior - don't forget he's only a year younger than Nank. No, not a first choice ruck. But Nank isn't the greatest ruck, he was fantastic around the ground - something that Marshall does really well.

The more and more this drags on, the happier I am to get some moneyball players and hit the draft to get to kids. Be it 7 & 8, 2 & 19, or whatever we have. Front load some contracts and attack FA next year. Sloane and Gaff BOTH free agents in 2018. I know this year was meant to be the year in trades bur I'm already excited for the 2019 season.

So with the talk of trading to pick 3, if rayner can't play mid you'd think Brisbane and gc wouldn't take him. So why would we trade to 3 to get him.
If he's been doing what he's doing with no tank imagine what he'll do when he gets one.

If the clubs feels the best investment on our picks is contracted potential talent then I'll back them on this.

We'll call this plan B and pointing guns at people plan C.

Actually seems right on the ball and a pretty fair comment from Tex.
If Tex had been a little more magnanimous in defeat I'd give him more credit. If he'd been simply extremely disappointed in Jake, he might not come across as so bitter and twisted.

Seems strange he isn't he making similar comments about Charlie Cameron wanting to leave and that it's also for money's sake?

Maybe he felt personally responsible for the team losing and for players leaving, and I can certainly feel for him if that's the case. But let's call it for what it is Tex - that's having a crack, mate.

If he's been doing what he's doing with no tank imagine what he'll do when he gets one.

can he get one?

plenty of AFL careers have died after 2 seasons because of that very problem, that was before the interchange cap had come in
