Not really. Motlop can run through the middle.
$350k a year is a lot of money... basically a decent wage for a player.

Pick 19 for Motlop wow-wee
Is that what they get for compo? I reckon he's be a second rounder as a trade so probably not outrageous, we laughed at him but he was really good early on in his career and dropped off as he went stale. He could be a bargain pick up for Port.
Cats getting a free ride as usual! Motflop not in top 10 players there and get 19.. Rocky top 3 at the Lions and they get pick 18 in compo. Something ain't right.

Yeah 19 is their compo. Agree he's a damaging little donut on his day, jeez 19 seems high to me though.
This season:
Holmes played vfl.
Pierce played vfl development league.
Its clear who's ahead, but at 28 i think well give up on Holmes.

I quite like the idea of hanging on to 7 & 8. Ponied up picks in the top 10 are worth far more than the points value attributed to them.
I also don't accept the Terry Wallace premise that unless we get a top 5 pick we don't get the player we need. Every draft has gems that are not in the top 5. We are best placed to get them.
Unlike many I am more than happy to keep flooding the list with young talent. We now have a significant core who have played 30-60 games. After next year it will be between 40-80 games. We are then entering a phase when the next generation have taken over and will peak quickly together while a very young list.
Then we are cooking with gas. I think we have exciting times ahead. Just need to remain patient for a little while longer.

For those playing at home, I've done the numbers on trading up the order with the points system (I know the system isn't perfect, but it's a useful guide).
If trading with Brisbane (pick 1)...
7 + 8 = 1 + 56
If trading with GC (pick 2)...
7 + 8 = 2 + 28
If trading with Carlton (pick 3)...
7 + 8 = 3 + 19
So that's the kinda return we'd be looking at on top of the early pick. Now I expect we'd take slightly unders (eg. no return from Bris, mid 30's pick from GC, mid 20's pick from Carl), but there's a bit of a guide for you.

Why? Why would we give two mid-first rounders for an untried draftee just because he is a slightly higher pick.

Personally I think it’s only worth it with a decent second pick back.

I know this was this years plan but oh well what else can we do. Disappointing but this could be the best thing that ever happened to us. We won't know for another 2 or 3 years though.

Pick 19 is the same draft pick that Hawthorn received for Lance Franklin in 2013. Extraordinary.
It puts Geelong back in the frame for Stringer. As if they need a helping hand.
