Having a quiet year so far but I don’t think he’s overrated on this forum. At or even near his best he’s a star and would comfortably be our best player. Injuries are a slight concern but he’s just now entering his prime years and would be worth the picks and salary IMO (unless they wanted two top 10 picks).

In top form he may be, but he hasnt been in top form for over 2 seasons now. I would rather two players (one for now and the other for the next 12 years) than it would cost for Kelly.

N.Brown is being let go from the hub to return to his family - looks like the end of the line for him unfortunately. I always liked him.

Two high first rounders is what you pay to get a bet-your-house-on-him superstar. It's a Dangerfield price. Other teams who have coughed up that kind of trade for guys like Tim Kelly or Treloar, I would say, have overpaid.

If, however, our two first rounders were not top 10, then it may be a different story. It's a tough one to trade on potential - which Kelly arguably still is.

Smart move by Nate.
Young family, 4th in line for a game, not even able to play VFL and getting paid SFA this year, he may as well get on with his life post footy.

Neither of those guys are on $1m a year also.

Taking away his contract, he's probably worth the same as Dylan Shiel. So 2 firsts with a second coming back.

There's a lot of issues that come with that. One is the cap space, the other is the fact we'd have 3 years in a row without a first round pick.

So we'd need to trade players out a) to fit him in the cap and b) because you must have 2 first round draft picks in the space of 4 years.

We would have been in a great position to do this trade last year. Not so much this year.

Can someone make an “It’s Fappening” gif.

Same on Fox Footy. You have to wonder why Kelly is so down on form this year? He is half the player he was plus he has been injury prone throughout his career. GWS would want 2 x 1st rounders, for me he is over rated on this forum and I would rather get Crouch or Williams for nothing and use our 1st round pick on Caldwell or at the draft.

Don't think we are desperate as the last time around.

We had be awful for years, attracting players like Logan Austinn as our only players to nominate us, had a drab gameplan, coach and future.

We were looking for something to kickstart some sort of revival. We missed out and then started with Hanners and then last seasons bounty.

We can now see progress and aren't as desperate for the messiah. Sure he would be nice to get, but the price may be excessive and I think we may have other options like you say.

The injury history is a massive problem though. He hasn't got through a full season for 2 years and often comes back underdone. You'd want a good medical report.

If Carlisle comes home too we start looking little thin.

Hard yes on kelly for 2 firsts and a mill a year longterm.

Sure there is risk with his recent injury history, but sometimes there are gambles worth taking.

You don't win flags playing it safe- I'd rather see us crash and burn giving it all we've got rather than being timid bridesmaids.

The hawks backed their medics in with jaeger and have been well rewarded- we need to have equal faith in our docs if they reckon jelly is a good bet for returning to full fitness

The hawks gave up 7, 23, 25 and 36 for O'Meara and he's been good but no superstar. You want more for that I reckon.

Maybe. Not sure it’s a massive problem given he’s now playing more consistently and in past years he’s been reliable. Let’s see if he gets another calf injury this year. I’d give up a fair bit for him if he wanted to move back to Melbourne. He’s exactly what we need.

For what they paid I reckon O'Meara has been bog ordinary.

Look what we got Hunter, Long and Battle and I havn't even looked at what GC did their bounty.

Possibly the worst trade of the past ten year when you look at cost. Gibbs would be a pretty distant second

Agreed - they paid huge overs

Gibbs would have to be first. He's so bad he can't get on the park in a bottom side. They paid a couple of firsts didn't they? At least JOM pays when he's not injured. I'd say Jaeger's trade deal probably explains why the Hawks aren't making rapid improvement.

Wingard and O’Meara for the draft positions that got Duursma, Liam Ryan, Hunter Clark, Battle, Long and Ryan Burton. Those two trades set them back five to ten years.
They gave up almost two years of draft picks. It was always going to hurt them 3-5 years down the track when the players they could have drafted would have been coming through.
Now they are relying on guys like Scully and Paton to keep them in finals contention.

Will be interesting to see what the Cats do with Charlie Constable. No Selwood, no Dalhaus, Steven looking like a park footy player... They could do with an injection of youth into their midfield but he seems to be well down the order.

If he crushes it for the next few weeks only to be dropped again then maybe he looks for a move?

I know he has his fans here but I'm not sure he offers us anything more than a guy like Dunstan would at this point.

+1.

Constable or Brodie IMO
