In top form he may be, but he hasnt been in top form for over 2 seasons now. I would rather two players (one for now and the other for the next 12 years) than it would cost for Kelly.
Yes , since Kelly signed his contract , no way he has been worth 2 first round picks and 1.1 million a year.
Quite glad we never got him now , I'm just hoping they have a good midfielder lined up for next year.

The hawks gave up 7, 23, 25 and 36 for O'Meara and he's been good but no superstar. You want more for that I reckon.

They paid the going rate for getting a star midfielder, whether he has been worth it is a separate issue I think.

The going rate for a star UNCONTRACTED player is 2 firsts with a 2nd back (treloar, jaeger price was equivalent, shiel, tim kelly(? Cant remember))

Given jkelly is still contracted till the end of next year, 2 firsts would be the expected price tag.

I think for us it's worth paying, in hindsight that perhaps wasn't true for the hawks because of their ageing list at the time of getting jaeger.
However it's worth noting jaeger is still pretty young- at least young enough to still be close to his best at the end of a 3-4 year bottoming out if that's where the hawks go.

I'd love him at St Kilda but I don't think 2 firsts as well as his $1m contract would be a good move to be honest.

Just seems like too much.

I can't actually think of anyone that was traded for 2 firsts without anything coming back?

So it would be one of the biggest trade prices we've seen since the Judd deal.

Not to mention his massive salary which is bigger than all of Treloar's, Shiel's, O'Meara's etc

So who’s on the trade table at seasons end?? Ross? Sinclair? Webster?

What would we get a 2nd rounder if we packaged them all. Seb hs dropped his value massively this season. The other two would be lucky to get another go.

O’Meara is a Rolls Royce but that’s an extraordinary amount for one player. I thought the Hawks were going to add JOM and Mitchell to Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis etc and I was thinking here we go another 3 flags for Clarko but if the old guys were going to be forced out not sure why they gave up so much.

Jesus it looks bad when compared to that
They had there luck - now they will linger down the bottom and the coach will leave the sinking ship and Kennett will regret saying clubs have to perform or expect getting the chop as they end up in Tasmania.
As St Kilda win the flag and membership sky rockets and sponsorship goes through the roof.

JOM looked like he’d be a rolls royce in his early days. What he is now after all his injuries though, is not that.

What's our plan to replace Carlisle who will be 29 next season?

What about someone like Elliott Himmelberg from Adelaide?

Has played mostly forward and not getting a huge go at the Crows but is only 22yo and is 198cm tall, big body, pretty agile, can take a mark and could be worth a try down back and played there in his junior career

Contract finishes at the end of the year and would not cost much

Thoughts?

Josh battle

Gws can’t afford to lose josh Kelly surely.

they really can't do anymore than they already have done.
They've guaranteed him massive longterm coin AND given him the option to walk at the end of next year (when he's a free agent).

Him selling his house for a loss a month after buying it sure is weird.

Who knows how the covid fallout will impact on the giants already insane cap situation?

Maybe gws know he's always wanted to leave eventually because unlike whifield, green and likely cameron- instead of signing longterm straight up, he's opted to sign for 2 years max for the last 4 years?

He’s not what he was going to be but he’s still quick enough, wins his own ball and is super classy. I’d love him on our team but obviously not for what they gave up.

Well I am convinced we need a taller like for like replacement for Carlisle

Clavarino is likely not to make it and I would prefer Battle to be used through the middle/forward sections of the ground and play to his stamina running strengths

I would agree. Like you I'd personally like him as a high half forward type and marking option on the wings. However, he is pretty safe in defense, so has to be counted as an option.
Clav is a strange one. Some say he's shaping up okay, others that he's nowhere near it. It may be worth giving him a block of games at some stage...some of these guys can surprise you a bit when given a shot in the firsts...that said, my attitude as to what's right or not, is one of the many reasons why I am not a coach.
The forward lines for most teams seem to only hold one monster forward at present with the others being mobile smalls and 6'2 to 6'5 types.
Battle is just about right at either end.

Battle is the same size and many key defenders including Dylan Grimes, Michael Hurley and James Frawley.

Port Adelaide actually don't have one defender taller than Battle.

I think he showed last year with Carlisle out he's suited for that role.

We get so obsessed with players heights sometimes. Battle has proven he is capable of playing well at CHB. Plus we’re going to have Howard there too and he’s taller.
