Cats are a sensational shady organisation, unfortunately

Wonder how many people connected to the AFL/Vic Gov got in on the same deal Bomber Thompson did?

Might be in their interest to keep the Cats (and the Greater Geelong area) looking strong...

Costa's been hooked in with the mafia for years.

Watching him play this year, Steven should retire. Football has gone past him and he doesnt look anywhere close to the player he was.

With everyone they are rumoured to be bringing in, he wouldnt be in their best 22 next year. And it would be sad watching him play VFL.

Yeah, on SEN the talk back from Geelong fans wasn't favourable. They said the same thing.

Are Nth gutting there side to bring in B.Crouch, Cameron , Viney , Daniher , Corr and Kelly

I wonder if Corr is seeing how North are gutting their list and having 2nd thoughts? If he is going to be asked to play FB for that team he is going to cop some absolute hidings.

Now, CHB for the Saints on the other hand...

For me we should be going after Caldwell, Miocheck, One of Pearce/Logue/Cox from Freo. Higgins if it’s for a junk pick.

I really rate Mihocek but he's too much like membrey, we don't need him.

i dont mind the idea of Higgins, he's someone who could come in and help Billings/Gresham/Clark etc. learn their craft.

look at what Brown and Geary did for our young backs. Ryder and Hanners for the rucks and inside mids. Roughy for the forwards.

we don't really have a flanker the younger guys can cling too.

surely an upgrade on Kent, even at his age.

also maybe he doesn't need to even play, remember they offered Roughy a list spot if he wanted it.

how many finals has Higgins played in?

You make a good point there. Think he’d be great for helping out some of our young boys with their development.

Higgins has played 11 finals.

7 at the Dogs by the age of 22. Then 4 at North between ‘15/‘16.

the blokes footy stats are insane still too:

we would be crazy not to have a punt on higgins:

Played every game - he’s obviously very durable despite his “advanced years.” 😊
I would imagine he’s going to choose based on who he thinks is closer to a flag, which at the moment would be the Cats.
I wouldn’t mind him at all.

i think we need him. the club as the year went on started to play billings more and more forward. i think they recognise they need a real winger. now there's still time for billings to get there but times running out.

Higgins could help pull Billings back on track and really push him forward. if not he could really rub off on Clark and advance him.

worst case we get a solid mid/winger/flanker for 12-24 months.

Just my thoughts on some names popping up:

Higgins - forget about the age, he is like a fine wine and looks in great nick. For a team like St Kilda who has been crying out for midfield depth, he won't cost a lot and can definitely rotate through. Also he is a dangerous forward with a good kick. If we want him, should be quite straight-forward to trade for.

Viney - Would like to have him in our midfield and definitely helps out Steele extracting the pill. I just can't see Melbourne letting a father/ son go but who knows, they are quite one-dimensional.

Oliver - for mine he is front of the queue. Pay two firsts for him, he is young and the one of - if not the best - extractor in the league. Doubtful to leave but one can dream.

Yep he’s still ticking along very nicely, some big games in shortened quarters there.

Not to mention last year, removing his injury game (3 touches in 3% time on ground before injuring his shoulder AC joint when tackling vs GCS) , he averaged 30 disposals a game.

Rumour on North board that they're looking at Paddy McCartin.

Now that makes a LOT of sense.

One way or another their list next year looks like it's going to have either a lot of players who've not had much exposed form over the past season, or players recycled on short term deals to bulk out and provide depth for 2021.

Paddy, presumably with full medical sign off, is someone who will cost them pretty much nothing to bring on, and has a slim, but nonzero chance to become a good to very good player at AFL level.

Cameron had a terrible year but he's got the runs on the board. He's always in contention for the Coleman every year. He's one of the best set shots I have ever seen. I don't think Battle is just a KPF. Membrey is smaller and could potentially play elsewhere.
Im not disagreeing with you that Cameron isn't a good player, but we dont have and endless salary cap and there are more important areas that need to be a priority.

I've heard people in the media say they'd take Max King over any kid in the comp right now so why not back him and spend that money on bringing in some help for Jack Steele.

The idea is to give the new coach a clean slate to build 100% his way.

Ratts was fortunate to inherit a situation where we only had a couple of big contracts, and they were with young, genuinely top shelf talent (billings, gresh), the exception being hanners.

Shaw inherited a list that tried to 'top up' when they should have been rebuilding.
That left them with a bottom 4 list, but maxing out their salary cap for the next few years.

At least when we were bottom 4 (and bottom 8) we kept our cap at that level- and didn't do what norf did, and try and shortcut things by overpaying for B graders.

The only 'slate clearing' ratts has had to do to get things his way seems to be jack steven, bruce, acres and (seemingly) carlisle.

The kangas better be confident that shaw is a good coach though- they are wasting a whole lot of value to give him his fresh start
Nobody gets a clean slate especially in the current climate.

I didn‘t agree with brad Scott’s top up tactics or norths throw your hat in the ring for everyone approach. It still happened and imo north have done themselves more harm with this approach than just dealing with their reality.

They may have picked up a player or two cheaply hit the draft and if fit had a competitive team. Anything could happen now but if I was a betting man it would be on a disaster rather than a successful rebuild.

I’d rather persist with Dunstan then spend big money on Viney, very like for like.

Viney is a vastly better player than Dunstan. Better extractor, better kick, faster... pretty much on every metric he's got Spook covered.
