- We have sacrificed our compo pick to assist the tigers, 4th/5th rounder sure
- We have leverage out the wazoo; you want 38, we have PSD, like for like trades are not 38/9
- We matched the deal so we valued him.
- Tigers are taking a former B&F , favourite son

Its a very interesting one but a favourable pick swap is likely i would think.

Sorry, I didn't explain it well.

Here's the rule from the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

1.6 Compensation
(a) Where in a particular year one or more Free Agent(s) under Rule 1.1(a) and Rule 1.2(b) and/or Restricted Free Agent(s) move from a Club’s Playing List (the first mentioned Club) to the Playing List of one or more other Clubs pursuant to the operation of Rule 1.4 or 1.5, the first mentioned Club may be entitled to a compensatory selection(s) in the next occurring National Draft Selection Meeting as follows: yada yada yada

1.2(b) is about RFAs so we'll ignore that.

Rule 1.1 says:

(a) Unless a Player is a Restricted Free Agent, a Player who:
(i) is party to a Contract of Service with a Club that expires on or prior to 31 October in a particular year (relevant year); and
(ii) prior to or upon the expiration of the Contract of Service referred to in Rule 1.1(a)(i), has been on that Club’s Primary and/or Rookie List for eight or more consecutive AFL Seasons,
(b) will be a Free Agent in the relevant year.


My reading is that if you haven't been on that club's list for eight years, the club doesn't get compensated.

Its a different rule.
If a player has been delisted previously then re rookied they are now a permanent free agent.
Every time they come out of contract.
Kyron is the same for us.

Yep, came in a year or so ago. Once you have been a free agent, you are an unrestricted free agent whenever your contact ends. So, for example, Taz will be a free agent again in two years.

Edit: Which makes Chol a unrestricted free agent, still listed, not delisted at this time.

There's a lot of assumptions here that Tarrant will get us a compo pick, might want to hold your horses a bit, and before you mention Isaac Smith we've got no idea how much coin Tazz has been offered.

AFL.com.au understands both clubs have been discussing a 'salary dump' which would see the Roos take on the bulk of Macpherson's wage while also offering greater playing opportunities.

The Suns this week received confirmation they would be granted access to pick 19 in this year's NAB AFL Draft and quickly turned to conversations around on-trading the selection.

North Melbourne's salary cap sits among the most flushed for room in the competition, which would allow it to take on Macpherson's wage.

Should the move progress, it would see the Roos armed with three picks inside 20 – No.1, 19 and 20 – at this year's draft.

As part of the transaction, the Roos would likely need to hand over a future selection to the Suns – expected to be a second or third-round pick.

The Suns have been informing clubs they are keen to trade into next year's draft, and by trading out pick 19 this year, would be expected to bolster their stocks for 2022.

A move for Macpherson to Arden Street would also alleviate pressures on the Suns' salary cap, given they have been forced into paying above market rate for re-signing young players in recent years.

They have also informed contracted midfielder Will Brodie they are happy to facilitate a move for him to another club for greater playing opportunities.

Macpherson, 23, last signed a contract extension with the Suns in the middle of a breakout 2019 campaign until the end of 2022.

The son of former Western Bulldog Steve, Macpherson finished third in the Suns' best and fairest in 2019 but has been limited to 23 games in the past two seasons.

Should Macpherson arrive at the Roos he would provide coach David Noble with extra depth, which includes Tarryn Thomas, Jack Mahony, Jaidyn Stephenson, Charlie Lazzaro, Kayne Turner, Curtis Taylor, Phoenix Spicer and Eddie Ford. – Mitch Cleary

Great work rate, tackler, and a hard nose campaigner who will do the dirty work. Poor offensively with not so great skills.

He’s a bit meh, but that trade isn’t about him, it’s about pick 19.

I’ll take whoever they want salary wise for that pick.

Salary and player dump.

Gold Coast have too many contracted players on their books. They need to clear some players to give themselves room to have 3 picks in the draft.

Wouldn't surprise me if we trade pick 20 for pick 19 and Macpherson

EDIT. After reading that article, the deal being rumoured is even better than mine.

like the article states they want future picks.

depends on the salary. Future 2nd if it’s peanuts, future 3rd if it’s 5-600k.

1, 19 and 20 is a bloody good start.

I'd think we could do better than a one pick (at the end of the first round) upgrade for a salary dump. Even our 2022 second rounder for their 2021 pick 19 plus macpherson salary dump seems not worth it, given we would likely finish low again. Would do it for 2022 third rounder though, so pick 37+ for 2021 pick 19 and taking the salary dump. I personally don't think Macpherson is much chop, so hopefully would be depth only behind our current young mids. I think his best footy has been as a mid, is he any good as a small forward?
 
Limited, but a hard worker, fills some small forward depth and he helps our draft hand.
