Tim and Gary were suggesting that Collingwood and Essendon could offer him around $1 million pa. That's a crippling cost because his brother would want the same then. I hope Sharman comes on and makes him less of a need.

Collingwood are toying with moving Grundy & his $6m over 6 deal on already but they’re considering throwing a mil at Bing?

Reckon Tim & Gaz are blinded by the bright lights of a big club.

There's rumour over here that Adelaide have enquired about Dunstan. Not sure how to feel on this because I'm pretty sure a lot of your supporters have wanted him gone for a while now. I am guessing he is not highly rated here.

If not for the 5km rule there'd be plenty that would be happy to deliver him

Looking at the Higgins trade we did with Richmond makes for good reading in hindsight.

We swapped late first rounders and sent our future second for a future fourth.

We then packaged the Richmond future fourth with pick 54 and sent it to the Hawks for pick 43.

After academy/FS picks pushed picks around it looked as follows...

In:
Higgins
Allison (Pick 25)
Highmore (Pick 45 and last pick used in the draft for us)

Out:

Pick 20 (Max Holmes - Geelong. Rich sent to Geelong in another trade)
Future 2nd (Approx early 30's)
Pick 54 (unused by Hawks)
Richmond 2021 4th round (likely a pick in the mid to late 60's. No guarantee to be used)

The difference between pick 20 and pick 25 is the equivalent of a pick 60. Not that bad a slide.

So in essence, we got Higgins, Allison and Highmore for Max Holmes and a pick in the early 30's this season.

With our NGA kids, it's likely we get those picks in the 30's back anyway by matching bids.

Gotta say, I'm super impressed by this trading and drafting.

Makes sense, especially if you guys lose Crouch. Apparently was very close to moving to you last year, but you guys pulled out at the last minute which might impact his decision since he reportedly has a few clubs interested in him.

He gets a bad wrap at times because of his kicking isn't great, but is a good inside midfielder who can do a job if necessary.

Just on Bing and Ming - people also also need to consider the monetary benefits to them personally outside of just the club contracts.

Separately, and at different clubs, their marketing value is essentially limited to their respective clubs.

Together they become a much more marketable proposition and if that is happening in the heartland of AFL rather than the Gold Coast, and if they are as good as they appear to be, then that additional financial opportunity will just grow and grow.

That makes me certain that Ben will join Max - and the Saints will enjoy the benefits both financially and on the field.

On the 3 occasions that I've seen the swans play with Stephens in the side he has been a mix of anonymous and horrendous (when he is near the ball). If he wasn't a pick 5 no one would remotely be having this conversation.
The swans would be lucky to get anything above a 3rd round pick. Avoid.
Good to know.
But that also just doesn't sound right to me, the Swans are elite at finding talent IMO. How could they miss a Pick 5? I can't believe it, maybe he hates living in Sydney but something doesn't add up.

They could have had a miss at the draft but their strike rate is usually impeccable lately

I don't think we need to worry about the money aspect.
Bing will get around as much at GC as any Vic club will offer and with Ming locked in at 750k, that's defined the ceiling for wage expectations.
Plus if he's gonna leave he will also have put to bed the idea of playing at a club for extra $$$.
The beauty is that we'd be able to have two million dollar players at 1.5m and their opportunity for earnings outside the cap eill also be maximized.

Lord of the Ring puns galore with that pairing

He’s a whipping boy on here but nowhere near as bad as they carry on.
He would be a good centre, just behind Steele obviously in our team and being 1 dimensional just not usable up forward or back.
Also with Steele and crouch gut runners but fairly slow off the mark, he is another slow guy so a bad fit for us now.

Think he could go well in Adelaides guts as the in an under guy when you have guys like laird and keays around him who are a bit faster.
I can see that trio working well as you probably want to get Sloane out of there and onto a wing/flank to preserve what’s left of his career at 31yo

Actually he's much loved by supporters but he can be very testing at times.
For where your club is at he'd be a fine acquisition.

If no-one leaves ( unlikely i know ).

And we have Hunter, Roberton, Frawley, Carlisle , McKernan all off the list .

Our 22 will have :

1 One of Geary, Paton, Connelly
2 Probably Highmore and Howard, with Joyce and Clavarino in the wings.
2 Two of Wilkie and Webster and Coffield.
2 Two of Hill, Coffield, Sinclair, Connelly.
2 Marshall and Ryder.
5 of Steele , Crouch, Dunstan, Hannebery, Clark, Ross , Bytel , Byrnes,
3 of Billings, Hill, McKenzie, Wood.
2 of King, Membrey, Sharman, Battle.
3 of Butler , Higgins, Gresham, Lonie, Kent.

I'm really not seeing any obvious places to trade in new players.
Not without struggling to give games to the kids we have.

Never be hasty to dimiss players, remember when Karl Amon wanted to come home and no one wanted him look at him now, if recruiters went by BF posters we would be in a worse position then finishing 10th.

We have had some history at the Saints where the club would be a lot better off picking from the forum favourites over our recruiters as well.

Thank you, yeah I remember that last year was very close to joining us. Those are the types of players you need in terms of role players. I reckon line you stated us pulling out of getting him last year will probably mean he signs with Carlton or Essendon.

That is good insight could be a valuable pickup then. He'll be 27 next year so a few serviceable seasons. Sounds like he is similar to what Mackay was for us in terms of being a whipping boy by majority of supporters.

He's a solid player but has some very obvious weaknesses, mainly his kicking and decision making. But if in a midfield that doesn't require him to kick he'd go alright.

It might not be Collingwood but to get hold of a young generational forward you probably have to participate in a bidding war and if a 28 year old injury susceptible Jeremy Cameron is getting that it's not ridiculous.

Yeah, he would go well provided you don't have too many of the same type like we do.

On his day he's a clearance and contested ball beast who can tackle really well too.

His weakness is his kicking and ball use basically.
