what do we do?

  • trade back in with a future first and take phillipou

  • trade back in with a future second and take barnett

  • trade back in with a future second for someone else

  • only take MM and keep the other spot for PSD/rookie

two unknown picks
we can all crystal ball they are good picks but that devalues them

tactically this has been done to stop an early bid by gws at 16 is what I have heard. could be bs I don't know.
Heard where?

Unless you have a "hot" line to Jason McCartney or maybe Emma Quayle we'd have to question your source.

Why would they take Max when there are plenty of higher rated players in a similar vein that will be available around that point in the draft i.e Josh Weddle

It 100% is.

Not sure why Sanders doesn't see that - the same pick in next year's draft is worth vastly more than this year.

Now, I don't think they did it for Phillipou, but if they did want to do a trade, I think we've increased the value of the assets we have.

Yes, why don’t people understand that the real world trade that just happened isn’t a fair approximation of value

Far more accurate is someone’s casual day dream, not what the real world swap value actually was

All I know is we now have a stronger hand to move up the order with the Roos' 2023 2nd than when we held the 2022 #23 if we really feel that a player has slipped way lower than we rated him in this draft

You know nothing of the F***ing sort

We just split a $20 into 2x $10 at the current rate of exchange

When the Ashcroft picks go out we can match a bid (likely) at 16 so I guess that’s the thought. Then after the bid we can get back in if we choose to get another player
Once Brisbane take Ashcroft and Fletcher, our picks will be 44, 53, 56, that's as high as they can get. Not sure what that allows us to match?

Why are we re drafting Turner in the rookie draft? We don't need him? He's a good SANFL player but that's it. Another wasted list spot.
Are we for sure saying we will double down?

As a guess a pick in the late teens.

I'm hoping MM slides & we can swap our 1st pick wherever it lands for a future pick.

Essendon F/S Davey junior will likely get bid on well before our pick as well.

Haven’t we bid on their academy players quite a bit.
Maybe just making sure we pay in full.

I just heard a rumour not in the media. who knows.

Pretty dangerous play to use a 1st round pick on a player unless they really do rate the player.

If anything bringing a future 2nd into the equation actually allows us more flexibility in adding a 2nd round pick to our future 1st if we were looking to get back into this draft.

I don’t think you’re allowed to trade out a future 1st unless you have at least one future 2nd/3rd/4th on each line, is that correct?

Definitely think we are doing some smarter things lately

Just taking the risk of the early Michaelanny bid out of the equation is reason enough IMO

Hope we are open minded re using our capital this year or next year depending on opportunities that arise

they simply did it so it didnt get swallowed for MM bid it's obvious

ps your icon is cool

Absolutely. Even a semi conscious numbnut would have to absolutely agree with this. This HELPS us do deals if we wish. It’s an enabler and certainly in our favour. I can’t see why if a highly desired player was still on the board at say pick 10-12 we don’t offer both 2023 second rounders.

More smart manoeuvring in draft swaps. LOL at those posters LOL’g at the Kangas doing the deal. When we do a shrewd move like this the attention from many goes towards a negative joke at the oppo rather than complimenting our club. We are certainly top quartile - if not far higher - for pick swaps over recent years (extra GWS first rounder, Blues slider deal in 2018 plus others). One area of the club significantly above average

Agree to an extent. To add our 2023 first (likely a top 6 pick in sports betting) along with Kangas 2023 second (very likely pick 19) in pure terms as they are CLEAR spoon faves in betting we would be needing a top 3-4 pick this year. Can’t see that happening. More chance we grab an elite mid next year with pick 6ish and use Kangas pick 19 ish to do a Dawson type trade in or (assuming Kangas are bottom) leverage the strategically valuable first pick of the second night as other clubs have done previously (eg slide it to 24 ish and pick up a good pick the following year)
