Or we don't upgrade Strachan, he goes off the rookie list and we draft Verrall or another developing ruck.
I don't think we have the capspace to cut another player we've already contracted for next year, and I don't think we'd do it just for a longshot ruck prospect.

Strachan would be the best local league mature aged ruck - we would have traded him if we were off him.

You know nothing of the F***ing sort

We just split a $20 into 2x $10 at the current rate of exchange
No we didn't.

North is one of the very few clubs that wanted more picks this year, for reasons that are obvious.

If we put 23 or NM F1 on the table to the entire league, we would get better offers for the NM pick because there's more demand to leave this draft that there is to stay in it.

AFL needs to mature further when it comes to player movement.

I would like to see the trading of future picks for the next two years, not just one. And a mid-year trade where players and draft picks can be exchanged.
I agree.

I actually think there needs to be a line above which more movement kicks in.

For example, at $450k:

  • Your salary becomes public
  • You can be traded during your contract
  • You have different FA rights

(Regarding the salary thing, I've worked for non profits and mamber based organisations where senior staff had their salaries makde public in annual reports. I think it's reasonable to expect that at a certain level).

Id rather no picks.. no drafts… none of this manufactured nonsense thats all engineered for the AFL and their flog journo’s to spin a whole heap of nonsense and generate clicks.

Rather they go the NRL route.. have a salary cap and players can play for whoever they want as long as the club can get them in their cap..

Players can move at anytime up until say about round 8..

why not what you said but only change between seasons?

I don't think you can trade rookies.
Cap space isn't a problem for us surely?
He's mature, but not a long term replacement for ROB since he's the same age

Why would you believe we instantly increased the worth of picks by just by doing a swap?

Did we forge North’s signatures on documents to create such magical added value

Yes we do their salary is their salary eg mcpherson is the obvious one. even a backended mcpherson cant be much...

youre only adding the min chips of the draftee if we are talking about payong out one year. we cant be that close to the wire

Interesting that Elijah Hewett has slid out of the top 25, was highly touted at the beginning of the season.
That has to be an oversight ......IMO still a top 15 player

He actually looked excellent late in the year - but I think with Crouch staying we'll look to do something different with our last two list spots.
Not sure why we don’t move Crouch or Seed to Rookie list - and hope like hell Crouch gets picked up. I agree Turner showed enough for another year on our rookie list.

One point that I am confused by Vaders (normally excellent detailed analysis of the relevant rules) is the following. Let’s assume Crouch is on 350k / year (would be pretty close I reckon). Now if we move him to the Rookie list (and he stays with our club) we still have to pay him the 350k but IF another club picks him up in the transition (if this is possible) surely the acquiring club needs to pick up his contracted salary. i believe Vader was saying Crows are responsible for picking up the salary differential between acquiring club and current contract. If that’s the case, why wouldn’t another club pick up Crouch on absolute minimum chips (whatever that is - say 100k), meaning the Crows are forced to pay the other 250k.

Assuming this is Vaders interpretation it doesn’t make rational commercial sense to me..

Players in that circumstance can nominate a minimum salary when nominating for a draft. If the player nominates his current contract then there is no problem, but if he doesn't and a club signs him up on standard minimum, the original club would be required to pay out the remainder.

Firstly, you are very good at hiding from answering self-incriminating questions 😊

Are you saying pick swaps can’t favour one team? This is getting better all the time haha

Gold Coast explain baffling pick swap with Geelong

The Suns gave up a future first-round pick (11) to only receive pick No.27 in Thursday night's draft in return.
