No to Gunston, no to Anderson, no to Zuheer, no to this gop's.
We have a list full of gop's, aim for high quality and hit the draft.
Let's face it, we are years from a flag. We need at least two years in the finals before having a tilt.
Are we serious about a flag or are we after sugar hits?

I admit I don't watch a lot of (if any) Norf games but Zurhaar is a bit of a head scratcher for me. On paper he doesn't look particularly exiciting.

Three years with a genuine gun ruck in Ryder was pretty good. Did a lot of Marshall's football too, even if Marshall went past him this year.

I'd rather give King the best possible set up with a genuine gun forward as a partner to take some pressure off him. We can't continue to let him be mauled by multiple defenders every week and expect our forward line to improve.
If our forward line actually functioned he wouldn't get mauled , still don't like the idea of bringing in anymore old guys ,

However his dumb name is spelt, I don't want him.

We need high end quality, we may be able to snag a FA, but high end quality comes from the draft.
May, Lever, Dangerfield, Prestia, Cameron...

I can keep going if you like.

Getting the best out of Max King is how we win a premiership.

I don't want to spend the next few years complaining about him getting mauled in every contest or that we are too focused on him because lack a decent 2nd option. If someone like Gunston can come in and immediately help King, we would be stupid not to try it to give the most important player the best chance possible to fulfil his potential.

The person to help Max King is Brett Ratten by having a gameplan where our forward line and delivery inside 50 isn't a shambles.

Agree fully.
I don’t think Gunston is that ideal fit,
Ideal would be a more contested marking forward, with good blocking skills.
But if Gunston is FA, the price is right.

Thats where we differ - I don't care the age of the forward if they can take attention off King, help him develop and be a threat themselves. The forward line looked best when Marshall played alongside King. And with Marshall moving into the ruck, I don't think the other options have shown enough to go into next year without trying to add someone better into the mix.

Shits on Matt Crouch as a depth option and will be a DFA ie FREE.

I'd have a 2 year deal in front of him tonight though he might be keener on more guaranteed game time.

He plays one good game occasionally to tease then gets injured again. He'd replace Hanners in rehab I guess.

Think a healthy a firing Hayes is as good a second option as any (hell also free up Membs quite a bit too).

But banking on a mature age big man to come back 100% from an ACL after 12 months is rough, in reality hell be more likely to fire in 2024.

I think our forward line a shambles is a myth.
We have smart kids there.

Most of the problem is the lack of transition speed leaves us with a flooded forward arc.

Then when in that position, which is at times unavoidable, we could really use a bigger body up there.
Not only as a 2nd contested marking target, but able to block for max.

Butler, Higgins etc try as they might to block for him, they just aren’t a threat to guys like the Mccartin boys.

There don't seem to be many key forward options available this year.

McStay is locked into Collingwood. Lobb to the Dogs. Gunston is the one of the few others being talked about so we are at least considering him.

If he thinks he could play 3 more years, it would be worth it. He's an UFA so wouldn't cost anything to bring across and he's still a 35+ goal forward on top of the benefit of having a genuine threat alongside King.
Fair enough.

I just don't see the point in bringing more aging players that will just take games away from the kids to he honest.

We aren't winning a flag next year and I don't see another third tall high up in terms of needs.

I'd rather a big forward that can hit packs hard chop out in the ruck.

Truth is that $600k+ is probably about the going rate for a quality outside runner.

I think Melbourne signed Langdon up for $550k a year 3 years ago. He seems to go alright.

And yet, Langdon averages less possessions, slightly more contested possessions & still has a better kicking efficiency

Agreed. But where do we find one?
Gunston is available for FA.
He is classed as a 3rd tall.
But a better option as a 2nd than we currently have.

Precisely.

Practically none of our entire list bar sinclair, wilkie, dmac (maybe battle) have played career best footy in the last 2 years.
Despite most of them now being in their peak years.

We could have an entire team of virtual new recruits without making a single trade IF we could institute a gameplan that actually got our existing players to perform at or near the best that they have previously shown.

None of our current players are setup to show the best of what they've got.
Bringing in new recruits like gunstan or anyone else isn't going to change that.

Will be fine and u wont even notice a diff

If I was a coach I’d implement a defensive game plan and demand effort / chasing without the ball.
Offensively I’d ask for a little bit of structure but other than that - do what you like play with confidence and try to score 20 goals every match.
I’m so sick of watching games where we kick 8 goals.

THIS.

I hope that the findings of the external review are clear that the list management plan has to be focused on getting young talent into the club. If we are sniffing around the likes of Gunston, Anderson and so on (players that I would have been very happy to add in the past), then we know we've still got one foot in each camp.

I hate to say it but what Collingwood have done is the path that I want to see us follow. They may have been forced into going to the draft due to their own mismanagement but now have a stream of quality kids around a seasoned core. That's our blueprint and it doesn't take long to bear fruit if we get it right.

Bytel and Ratts haven’t been seeing eye to eye this year, will most likely be seeking a trade. Information from some one who was apparently told this form Bytel.
Honestly, I’d probably leave if I was Bytel as well.

Has been unlucky with some injuries and covid when we had spots available, but he’s also been dominating VFL.

He made his debut against the Cats and went against Selwood in the middle and didn’t look out of place. 18 touches, 8 contested and 5 clearances and I remember being really impressed with his quick hands.

Was really highly rated as a junior, he was touted as a top 5 but had the back injury so slipped.

Don’t know why we chose to play Dunstan ahead of him to finish off 2021 season. Seems a really dumb play.

He can clearly play, might have limitations like Luke Ball had in Lyons eyes, but he did already after he left us.

Then I'd prefer we spent the time on developing our own.

Sharman looked good in defence but we don't have enough room for all those mid size defenders.

Look towards the draft to find more or find a young player looking for opportunity

Bringing in these aging players is not the answer unless we are genuinely contending

Not sure about Zuheer, but Zurhaar has a tonne of upside.
I reckon he's a fantastic player as well.
No point north bringing in AC and letting Zurhaar go unfortunately.
I reckon if North had ended up with a no name coach teams would have been all over their best players. Larkey next to King... Zurhaar swapping with Gresh...
