They were traded for after each club had established a pretty solid core through the draft.
Like Windy, King, Owens, Battle, Sinclair?

If you wanna discuss how many players we’ve brought in that’s fine but we’ve done what every other club has done and the concept that you only get quality through the draft is stupid.

Bytel and Ratts haven’t been seeing eye to eye this year, will most likely be seeking a trade. Information from some one who was apparently told this form Bytel.

Someone suggested Long didn't rate Ratts game plan and players last year were confused by it. The person who I think needs the biggest kick in the arse is Ratts.

Hopefully Noble interviews the players away from the coach and the coach isn't off limits this time. Lethlean did a review around everything but coaching to save the club embarrassment last time so had to hack the list only to sack the coach anyway.

Dunstan walked away from the club with really sour taste in his mouth. All the positive folks on here will jump up and down in their seats saying good riddance, but when you have caused that kind of friction, it gets around players and managers.

For a guy who is a relationship coach not a strategic one, he has got a few players off side.

Getting the best out of Max King is how we win a premiership.

I don't want to spend the next few years complaining about him getting mauled in every contest or that we are too focused on him because lack a decent 2nd option. If someone like Gunston can come in and immediately help King, we would be stupid not to try it to give the most important player the best chance possible to fulfil his potential.

That is purely game plan. If we don't replace the forward line coach, we aren't serious about improvement and Noble has been directed to report on the wrong areas. We could change things up really easily. King was moving around the ground like he was against Carlton in the last game. He leads well and marks easily, his scoring went up not down and other players get more of a look in.

I admit I don't watch a lot of (if any) Norf games but Zurhaar is a bit of a head scratcher for me. On paper he doesn't look particularly exiciting.

He looks good to the eye though. He reminds me of Aaron Hamill. Big, solid, body checking third tall but can also go on ball when needed. Probably a bit like Stringer but with toughness instead of freakishness.

Fair enough.

I just don't see the point in bringing more aging players that will just take games away from the kids to he honest.

We aren't winning a flag next year and I don't see another third tall high up in terms of needs.

I'd rather a big forward that can hit packs hard chop out in the ruck.

What about Weiderman? He seems to be out of favour at the moment. He hasn't really made a massive leap yet but I can see him doing a 2MP at some point. His value would be as low as it's ever going to get. He looks a confidence player who needs a bit of guidance. If King took the best defender every week Weed could get a few bags and he's tall enough to Lobb ruck.

And game plan is only a good as the players who need to execute it. The forward set up and how we kick it in needs work - no doubt about that - but we also need improvement from the players trying to execute it or need to get better players in there all together. If they blame all their deficiencies on the game plan, they will never improve as players because not everything is someone else's fault.

Funnily enough, a similarity between the Carlton game and rd23 was King had a proper 2nd tall next to him throughout the game to take attention off him which he didn't have for approximately there 6 games before rd23. Maybe getting someone to play 2nd fiddle to every each week is a good idea.

Why wouldn't be want to improve our 2nd forward options from some the most mediocre options in the competition and give our more important asset genuine support throughout games?
We already can't play all of Members, Sharman and Hayes in the same forward line. We'd likely get Gunston and lose Sharman who could go on and have a long career similar to Gunston

THIS.

I hope that the findings of the external review are clear that the list management plan has to be focused on getting young talent into the club. If we are sniffing around the likes of Gunston, Anderson and so on (players that I would have been very happy to add in the past), then we know we've still got one foot in each camp.

I hate to say it but what Collingwood have done is the path that I want to see us follow. They may have been forced into going to the draft due to their own mismanagement but now have a stream of quality kids around a seasoned core. That's our blueprint and it doesn't take long to bear fruit if we get it right.
It helps a bit when you have got a couple of gun father sons you can get for a bunch of second and third round picks.
Hopefully us getting Owens, Windy and NWM is the start of the same upward path for us.

That is worth exploring.

He also didn't go too bad as a 2nd ruck option when thrown in there too from memory

I like the Weiderman option. Has 1 year left on a contract but he would still be fairly cheap since he seems to be on the outer and hasn't yet become the player they hoped.

For all this talk about not getting the best out of Max King...

He kicked 50 goals and had over 90 shots on goal

How many current players have done that by the age of 22?

At a guess I would say just Cameron and Buddy?

If he kicks straight he's not far off winning the Coleman

The issue I have is that you can see that we've never got him out of first gear. He's got so much more in him and we aren't exploiting it yet. He really could be anything already. If he learnt some really basic forward craft and a few more ways to get easy goals he'd be a Coleman medalist already.

Carlton and Sydney games showed how many strings he has to his bow. Unfortunately Ratts thinks he's a banjo.

It will be a shame to lose Bytel without really finding out what he's capable of at AFL level, but the idea that he has been dominating VFL isn't completely true. Had a great game in the last round though. It's a shame that injuries hit him when there were spots available. For better or worse we need people at the top that can make tough calls on players, of those we've made you'd probably say Hind is the one Ratts got wrong but are there any other glaring ones?

There is tough and then there is stupid. Losing Bytel for nothing to chase Bruhn for overs who we hope turns into a Bytel who then won't get games looks like peak Saints.

He is actually Stephen Milne in a 7 foot body. Hi ground work is absolutely unbelievable for a key forward.

Yeah. That was his thing as a junior, wasn't really a classic tall forward. To not exploit some of that is negligent and not getting the most out of him. Like pulling a cart with racehorse. It looks like we want him to mark or spill to bring the smalls into the game but the smalls aren't getting it anyway and being stagnant makes his marks hard to stick.

Good call on the weed gringo2011
He could be worth a swing.
Should come cheap.
I like it a lot, not someone I had considered.
Didn’t work out in Melbs forwardline, but could be a good foil for Max.

I reckon if doesn't make it as a forward he could be a Harris Andrews type of slippery tall marking back. It's a pretty low risk one as long as the Dees would let him go. Losing Jackson and potentially Brown in another 12 months could make them play hard ball though.

Interesting to hear you guys say this. I loved seeing him push his opponent under the ball on Sunday and get it out the back. Having that in his game could make him unstoppable. Everyone wants to stop him getting a run at it but if he can do that defenders won't know what to do
