I think the thing that gets overlooked or never dared spoken about aloud is this teams complete lack of aggression. It's pretty much a list full of prey with victimhood written all over it. Bar for Ryder, Howard, Wilkie and Battle every other player is on the prey spectrum relative to predator/enforcer. I've seen a couple try to elevate their levels but find themselves on their ass apealing to the umpire to intervene because they were treated roughly by their opponent.
This has been a club trait since the mid 90's with a host of school boy type stars who couldn't quite do it on the big stage when something extra was required.
Whether you like it or not the reallity of the great teams is that they always have a bunch of these guys who are naturals at it and create a ripple effect through the rest of the list. Unfortunately the same is true of the the opposite and has been a staple since Hamil, Lawrence, Gherig, Guerra, Baker, and Lenny were in the same team. In this team prey like Reiwoldt and Harvey could ply their skills in their fair and gentlemanly manner without it becoming contagious through the list. But I still beleive if they could have taken the same evolutionary path that Cotchin took to the predator side we would have seen a few more premierships. Just imagine Reiwoldt running through Scarlett in the 2009 GF as a square up for the throat chop I saw Scarlett lay on him earlier theat year.
Anyway with this in mind I think it is time to adjust the scales and do what Brisbane did in getting Robertson, Richmond in Caddy and Nank, Melbourne with May.

We missed a massive opportunity with Powell-Pepper last year but may still be able to get him if Port really want NWM whom by the way is on the hyper side of prey/victim.
NWM for Rozee and Pepper or NWM for Ports first and Powell-Pepper.
I think De Goey can step up in the second half of his career and be an enforcer hyper confident extrovert type that we need desparetly. Free trade.
Rhys Matheson is the perfect fit for us. A real protector of his teamates and under played at Brisbane. A character/extrovert and club man. Steele, Bytel, Windhager and Owens would all benefit from having him on the list as opposed to dealing with him in finals as an opponent.Use Hill pick 19 and get Matheson and maybe a third round pick as well back.
Cam Zuurhaar would be a dream although he does seem a bit introverted but it could be a body language issue of being 10 down at half time most weeks.
With these four guys coming in and mixed with the pre existing positive guys you might see more aggresion come out of the likes of Steele, Coffield, Clarke etc and develop in Owens and Windhager who are right on the edge of going one way or the other depending on the dynamics of the group.

Interesting hearing Roo's comments that the youth cupboard is bare

I've started zoning out when Roo comments on our club. He's been with his media mates too long and is starting to realise we're an easy target.

I was always looking forward to that generation getting into media work and maybe shining a positive light on us for once, but him, Joey, Dal when he worked for Fox Footy, seemingly just line up to whack us whenever they get half a chance.

Roo is so down on the joint he'll be posting on here soon...

I don't think anyone has called the Hill trade a bargain.

Some are just willing to acknowledge we used our original pick 6 to bring in multiple players, not just Hill.
Pure speculation, but in hindsight we probably could have executed the remainder of those trades without the need to touch pick 6.

Interesting hearing Roo's comments that the youth cupboard is bare. It feels like we are one good draft away from having a real nice group of kids. Need to hit the draft this year again.
Couldn't give a flying rats @rse what Rooey say's he is a media person, respected him as a player & legend of the club but to continually pot shot the club doe's no good for supporter or membership morale & to come out & say don't get DeGooy because we can't handle please show some respect to the current staff at the club.

And by the way take Joey with you

Elite kicker off half back who then allows Sincs to play midfield - and we are better when he’s in there. Plus a draft pick

How does that not improve us?
Farrell is an OK player but we have hundreds of those. Sinclair is arguably the best HBF in the comp.. Why are we moving him to the midfield?

Doogie is in a very similar boat to Hill I think.

He's clearly got the attributes to be way better than he shows in our team.

He's got all the hallmarks of being able to be a gun CHB, yet because we haven't developed or traded in a gun FB to replace brown- we stick him in a situation where he's not well suited and tell him to do his best.

His natural style is way too attacking to ever be a decent fullback
howard for pick ~18 or whatever it was is always gonna look crap unless we put him higher up the ground so he can play his natural game.

We really need a marcus adams, tom barrass type to make howard for pick 18 look good.

Same with hill- if we didn't play this garbage 'just bang the ball forward long and fast' crap and instead played a posession game- the hill trade cost would look fine.
Howard would be statistically elite if he marked all the balls he spoils with two hands

Nah I’m not diluting any compensation with players who realistically would struggle to get game with us Imo. He’s out of contract next year you can get a guy like that with a third rounder if he wants to come home.

So I have called you on your complaints, what are you substantialally going to do about?

Don't answer and we can see you are full of bs.

What the **** can I do? I don't want to pull my memberships and I don't have the time to mount a spill. I have just as much right to call out their bullshit as the people who gloss over all the mistakes and pretend that the negatives are positives have.

You're just as much of a bullshitter, you've called out others in the past saying that they have no rights if they don't fund the club from memory so maybe pay up or shut up yourself.

Just because I don't walk around in a state of ecstasy over every imbecilic decision we make doesn't make my voice any less relevant.

Thank you. It's giving me the shits reafing page after page of people bagging the player for the role that he's being given. It may be the case that this review notes Ratten's stubborn insistence on using players in roles they're not suited for until they want out of the club over it.
Battle as a winger
Hill as a defender
Marshall as a forward
Membrey as a hit up HHF
King stationery in the square.

The longer you think about it the bigger the list gets.
Coffield in AA form in the 2nd half of 2020, used as a deep accountable defender ib 2021 and was crap.
Etc, etc, etc.

Howard and Ryder who lets face it weren't worth a first round pick. It was a stuff up and hopefully we learn from it. High picks like that should have been off the table for anything but absolute stars. If we'd just used the GWS picks we could have had Kosi Pickett and Bergman or Weightman types. Serong and Young were both after our original pick.

Really blew an opportunity for a bunch of GOPs which we have never had any trouble coming up with. It was really poor management IMO. Sides that drafted then have moved above us while we were trying to cheat the system instead of using a plan.

If Freo played hard ball we should have walked away.
We upgraded one first round pick and got both them with the last pick of the first round. That has been a very good trade for us.

This is such a dumb comment. So because he isn’t telling everyone that our list is elite and we’re going to win a flag next year, his opinion now isn’t relevant.

Maybe one of our greatest ever players is over watching how poorly run and trash our club is?

Butler is another victim of our game style and Rattens inability to think outside the square. When he went back to the VFL Batchelor threw him onto the ball and he excelled. So what does Ratten do when returns to AFL let him rot in the forward pocket when our midfield look like they are running in 'quick sand'. Go figure?

Our list is a lot better than what we produced this year. Far too many players went backwards and it all points in one direction as far as Im concerned.
I noticed that in a recent game (I think the Brisbane game from memory), where the only occasions we looked like scoring was when Butler was getting up the ground, burned the opposition off, and delivered it inside 50 with some accuracy. It crossed my mind than about him getting some midfield minutes.

There is nothing wrong with Roo publicly holding the club to account.
The administration have had their head up their arses in terms of where we’re at, and could do with his level of standards.
Agree to a point , but if we started pointing out the faults under his watch as a Capt especially off field well we won't go there, all i'm saying if he want's to make a change join the board be an adviser instead of living in his 09-11 era of football make a difference by helping out the claub .

It's mostly from Saints fans that don't watch Port games and just look at the stats I'm assuming. Kind of like the Taranto obsession. Both of them put up good numbers and are seriously overrated footballers.
Types that won't improve us as a side. You would think we learnt our lesson with Zac Jones but apparently not.

I've watched him but it doesn't seem to be a good fit if we couldn't use Hill on a wing.

He's a free agent, it's the only real appeal in him. Grabbing good pieces and hoping that you have enough to lift us up regardless of coaching is appealing to all fans.

I don't think we need to top up unless it's really obvious missing pieces or stars though.

Hopefully the report makes a really clear path forward which includes a bit of a recruiting/drafting plan, not just grabbing at anything that looks shiny.

one good draft away... are you kidding?

We would have the smallest pool of under 23s in the league you'd reckon. It's going to take a few drafts to balance that out and we are going to have to have some solid list management decisions made.

Because our midfield is shithouse & performs infinitely better when Sincs pinch-hits through there

Was just an idea. If they want to give us pick 8 for him, I’d take that too. Not sure that we’d get more than what we took him for in the draft. Nas looks ok but not panty-wetting excitement by any means, not sure he gets us both a top pick & a player

Let’s be realistic. We are NOT getting pick 19 for Hill. Besides, North don’t even have it unless the AFL give them a priority pick
We’ll be lucky to get a pick above 40. North don’t even have their 3rd rounder

What's your take on our youngsters? How many good young players do you need on the list?

the problem we are facing is you are going to lose players inside your best 22 namely the effective ones over the next 4 seasons which you then need to replace with even better players so you push up the ladder. that's not going to be done with 1 draft!
