Carlton have delisted Jack Newnes. 207 career games, done before turning 30. I am not advocating a return.

But in 2016 he averaged 23 disposals, 3 tackles, 4.73 inside 50s and kicked 15.3. After 2017 he was never quite the same, but his 2015-2017 numbers were more than adequate.

Also the joint record holder for most consecutive games played at St Kilda (123, held with Ian Syman, Callum Wilkie is currently on 85).

Wowzers, he played like 16 games or so for them this year, you’d think a player you rate like that would at least be kept on as depth? Even if they’ve got another HB/wingman type they expect to play ahead of him next year, to go from playing ~75% of games in the last 3 seasons to delisted is a little howyagoin…

Unless Carlton really, really, really weren’t happy with his defensive effort on Pickett lol

Obviously no one can know for sure but it has been speculated before on sen.

As the poster above said he has done this before so I wouldn't be surprised if he did it again.

Hill is a professional and obviously doesn't have interest in being loyal or any of that stuff.

Agree with the last sentence. Alwsys wondered what drive he had to come to the Saints except money after 3 flags. Hoped for the best, didn't get the worst. He has been a bit like Danny Ric at McLaren. Apart from the odd result couldn't get the best out of him.
Best for both to part ways. We don't need to pay him 24 million though

Nope. I would much rather we admit we got it wrong and trade him, than be stubborn and keep him for another three years.

If we sell for peanuts or pay part of his wage then it's just being mature.

Unless we legitimately think he will get better for us, it is better to actually assess where he is and move on than to double down and just hope it will get better (we have enough evidence to say that it won't).

OK , so if i buy a car for 100K and sell it to someone for 10K and buy their petrol, i'm "being mature"

Personally i think i'm being a dickhead.
Yes its not the high powered AWD i should have got, but i'm still a dickhead if i give away my MG Hybrid for free.

Stupid decisions that favour contracted players who want to leave, and the club they want to go to are not mature.
Its actually pretty childish to consider that its the clubs job to help impulsive players to do whatever they want.
I'd consider banks to be mature. No matter how i'd like to break my contract, they won't be in it unless they win.

Both hill and the club tried, but it hasn't worked.

I think both parties would be happy to move on but what the club gets in return will be the deciding factor.

Got knocked out against Sydney and he was never the same player after that..

Clearing the 800-900k a season might not be necessary but be a good benefit that we might not get the opportunity to do again.
We still don’t have to give him away.

Aren't you the guys that always cried if anyone put down Hill's performance? Now we are meant to think he's a spud and anything we get should be seen as a great trade by a very clever club? Like when you fumed because I said we should be playing finals like it was insane to have any expectations.
You really struggle with nuance don't you. You might not realise it, but every single comment or view about a player doesn't have to be the extreme to one side.

For instance, Hill has not need a liability on field like was stated yesterday. He can also not be worth a lot in a trade if he was traded out this off season given his contract and what the media has been reporting.

Also not sure I called him a spud or that I said the club was clever for it but it got you some cheap likes for typing that so good for you.

Just saying, Clarko has always been more into trading senior guys than hitting the draft early.

Already plenty at north he will build around.
McKay, xerri, LDU, jhf if he stays, larkey, Simpkin, zurhaar.
He already said he needed experienced players anyway.

To get their expected end of first round priority pick, we'd probably have to give something else as well.
For pick 19, I’m pretty sure we’d be prepared to pay a bit of his salary.

Always said personally would accept the PP and 200k of a 900k salary.

Not ideal but why do we need to give him away?
Saints aren't selling, North are buying.

Also one of the guys who said his salary had nothing to do with judging his output.

I’d warn you not to go down the Billings path… you’ll be in for some fisty cuffs

It's being realistic. You can talk a big game on here about what we will demand or that we can ask for the world, but it means nothing.

The word from the media - which usually has a lot more substance than scenarios thrown around on here - is that he will leave and we won't get a huge bounty in return.

Best prepare yourself now then spend the next month talking a big game to find out what you want as the return isn't what reality has as the return.
It's a bit like the media stating the indisputable fact that Adel would match any offer for Crouch & we'd have to trade our 1st pick for him. Absolutely guaranteed. Lock it in. They're matching... zero doubt.

Hmmm.

Ok, no match but defo Band 1 compo for the Crows. Happy days! Great result for Adelaide.

Ahhh.

Mmm.

They get it wrong. Often.

People are just twigging that Rooey is often off the mark too.

Exactly. Perhaps not all his reasons were football related, but other lifestyle factors, location, family with a big payday regardless. Like a job. Probably more common now than we accept as emotional passionate club supporters?

But as stakeholders.

We can have the expectation that for what he is getting from our club = a certain level of performance is required whilst doing your job.

How would your boss feel if your contribution was erratic. Ranging from stunning to downright below the output of the pimply kid on his first day.

This conversation goes both ways.

Could be an element of both, especially if the media stories are true.
But there isn’t a single media story saying the saints are forcing him out.

The stories are Hill wants out and Clarko WANTS Hill at North.

Now internally we might be high fiving - which I doubt.
But we aren’t selling him to speak which is Joffaboy point
