Not really. We could have put a better offer in now.

Money and terms we had a massive massive advantage that it seems we didn’t take.

It’s his decision and ultimately there’s not much ooint sooking about it now but I seriously doubt we did everything we could there.
Sounds like our interest disappeared once we found out the full contract he was owed.

Hopefully that means we are keeping some cash for some targets next year.

Look, my personal opinion is a deal will get done.

My belief is that it’s going to involve either pick 3 or that port first.

Otherwise. It would have been done already - with their initial draft hand.

That interview last night and again this morning from Rawlings was pretty categoric that they want him and he would like to go there.

So we need to be appeased to facilitate it

My feel is that it wont and it'll depend largely on Hunters camp.

Rawlings and North will low ball, it'll come down to what picks they want to give and be slight overs, time will lapse and it's unlikely we'll fold to a rush order at the end ala Jones. Facilitation will then occur next year.

It could have worked if we'd invested in recruiting and development staff. Melbourne did so much of their list build around this period as did Richmond and the Dogs. We got it mostly wrong and had an austerity policy that meant we didn't spend enough on development either. List management is also always ordinary.

My worry is that we have internally recruited our head recruiter again when it's the one position you can't afford to have a bad one.
The Dees were gifted a coach and priority picks by the AFL….even after their tanking.

Geez, you would be furious as a player if a club was all over you and then they saw the bill and ran the other way

Yes and no, all about discussions if they're like "yourcvlub is being bastards and we're just not robbing but will keep touch and whisper sweet nothings" you ensure player is in your camp further and round 2 is in your favour instead of ours.

What's seeing out a contract on half effort v favouritism?

Happens though….
Carlton and Papley
Sydney and Daniher
Us ( to a lesser degree) with Xerri, as we didn’t chase him as much as the others

With 24 hours left of this years trade period i just cannot help but to feel a sense of disappointment in what the list management team has dished up. Richmond for example has just landed both Hopper and Taranto in the space of a week, where our midfield is crying out for ONE of those players let alone two. Someone like O'Meara who has some leadership and a bigger contested ball winning ability who would not cost us much picks wise i wouldve thought we would be willing to look at a deal for.
Karl Amon is another, great ball user and shows a bit of heart that our club is desperately craving, however walks to the Hawks as a FA as we were twiddling our thumbs awaiting an answer from De Goey.
We really did put all our eggs into the De Goey basket and its sticking out bright and clear that we missed countless opportunities to bolster our midfield.....

Most would be more pissed off that the club they were at didn't realise them cheaply these days. Players seem to have all the power.

If Rendall is right and Callaghan has his sights set on the Saints then I’d be okay with it. We could do,

Saints trade - Picks 9, 28, 32, 47 and Clark

North trade - Picks 3, 61, 63, a future 2nd, (North) and a future 3rd, (North)

If not then

Saints trade - Picks 28, 47 and Clark
North trade - Picks 40, 63 and a Future 1st, (Port),

If not then Hunter comes back and plays footy with us.

Richmond first pick at present: 53, and no future first for those two gets.

At present they've sold both drafts for 2 players and sure, they're gunning for immediate improvement and it might work out for them, but gee you'd hate to have to fire sale for picks later on a need as them.

Karl as an FA gets to largely state what he wants and to then go there, O'Meara is a shadow, we don't need his type, we need Gresh's without the shit kicking and suspect durability types, hence De Goey.

Bowes would be the miss if we wanted in on that dance, but we'd be coming from a mile back if what camps have been saying is fact, I wouldn't say we're screaming for it though, our worse issues are a CHF & CHB though the latter is slightly mitigated by Battle and now Cordy in as depth, but we can say win the mids and still be very predictable up forward and get done just due to that predictability. Which again, is largely why the club has also stated that they are looking for quality talls as they see the issue in the front half.
The fact we haven’t shut it down after todays comments from Rawlings says it’s very much on our agenda.

You never do. Does a disservice to the period if you just straight throw up walls and go lalalala, this is Dodo's field and why he's largely derided after all.

If Rawlings comes in and say "pick 3 and future 1st for Clark + Y" you're at that table even if you have no intention to sell whatsoever, so you let it play and if it ends it ends and job done without being a Dodo and pissing people off for being obstinate.
