Keeping Hill and bringing in a ready to go defender also suggests we don't plan on falling down the ladder.
To be fair I agree with what they're doing. The capitulation in the last half of the season was bad, but we shouldn't overreact and go into full rebuild mode. Just tinker with a few things, hit the draft, and go again.

I hope one of the strategies to come from the review will be to identify and target 🎯 Saints supporting young players and families.
Get in their ears, really work on them, make them feel important and wanted by the club.
We obviously won’t get to draft them all but I bet we’d get a lot more trade requests coming our way.

If we do well in the draft then it will have been a fine trade period. We got something decent for Long. We haven't lost anyone of note (assuming Clark stays).

We have three picks that will probably match what we picked last year after the bids, if not better. We need a great draft, that would really set us up to attack future trade periods. If we can nail our picks in the draft then we will have a really nice crop of youth coming through.

We need more than that. We need our first round pick to be next level good. We need a Daicos, Rachele, Sonsie type of hope personified. We need to get the others right. Blowing picks on Allison types will waste another 5 years. As good as Nas, Windy and Owens were last season, that should be a level of expectation of most draftees not a special event. It's been a pretty spartan decade at the draft. King is pretty much the only high end player drafted in that period. Gresham probably the next best.

If we are going to mini rebuild we can't afford to get anything wrong or it could literally be 20 years gap between making prelims. 12 already gone in a competition that is designed to equalise. If we can do it inside a 15 year gap we will have done well from where we are now.

We are all seeing now that the salary cap and having a war chest is the last of our problems.

Players will go where they want to play, nothing to do with the cap.

Money is of little value, once you are rich... you are rich. A couple of hundred thousand dollars is of little value when you compare it to playing in a decent team and under a good coach.
What does this have to do with us participating in the AFL's international rookie pipe dream?

I agree. Also happy we weren't throwing money to just anyone. Seems to be a bit more purpose in our actions.

Lets nail the draft, hopefully fill a couple more needs with a DFA or two and get back to our pre-bye form.

People understandably concentrate on the second half of the year. As disappointed with the club, both playing group and coaches as I have ever been as a supporter. When the heat was turned up we mentally wilted and was made to look like a bottom four team.

The reason I was so disappointed with the second half was because of the first half of the season. 8-3 and we deserved to be 8-3 with some great wins over Richmond, Geelong, Freo, and Adelaide away from home. People here try to downplay the first half of the season, but really we were playing very good football, not just front running, but running down 4 goal leads twice against Richmond and Geelong and then going away.

People blithely say we only played one qtr a game. Shows a lack of understanding of football. Almost every game the opposition gets on top and will keep the ball in their forward end for repeat entries, it is how the defence holds up in these times. At the bye we were 4th in the comp for defence @ 70 points. Good football is just not attack and goals on the board, it is defence and holding up under extreme pressure.

We have a fairly balanced team that is easily capable of making the eight, we showed we had a good gameplan and the players to execute it. After the bye, we played some atrocious games, lost confidence, and then went into our shells. When that happened the coaches did not step up which is on them.
We have the players but do we have the will, the mental toughness and the coaches to pick us up when we stumble?

Can’t wait to nail the draft if we don’t make any moves between now and draft night with our bang average draft hand.

We actually have to wait until 3pm for anything to happen lol. It's kind of embarrassing following the AFL sometimes. We're like an attention starved younger brother to the NFL. They actually generate natural excitement for events, we have to add embargoes and roll out insufferable Damo and the boys to bring in any kind of interest. Honestly some of the stuff the league does is cringeworthy.

Better to be the attention starved little brother of the NFL... than the weird cousin from the country who collects his farts in a jar and pulls wings off blowflys.

I think if we were bottoming out then it would make sense to trade Clark and get another early pick in the draft. I don't know whether we're just playing hard to get with him or not, but if we are keeping him then it says to me that the club thinks they're ready to push up the ladder.
I definitely do not want to get rid of Clark, his injuries have been bad luck as opposed to anything chronic and I still reckon he can realise his potential.

Well, yes, that's very true lol

Yes, we have not finished our trading as at 10 minutes ago. Real Lochie Weller feel about this one. One lot of supporters are going to lose their s**t by the end of this day.
If the deals good enough then why would anyone loose their shit, sounds more like selling a stupid deal if that’s going to be the reaction.

Yeh no s**t mate that is literally the point.

That was sarcasm from both of us.

Hunter Clark shouldn't be traded under any circumstances by the club. They have been show to have gross incompetence when it comes to growing our playing base from within.

I can't see how Gags can last for too much longer, there is just too much evidence of his poor decisions over our list management.

As soon as I replied I realized haha. I agree though on both accounts.

Freo Adelaide Richmond were wins because of King.

He broke each of those games apart

Infact you can directly correlate our losses to his poor games. In fact in games King scores less than 2 goals, our record was: 1 win 5 losses.

In games were king kicked 3+: 7 wins 1 loss.

Simple view. But if King fires weekly. We win most weeks
