If it's true that we offered 9 and Clark for 3 then Gags needs to be fired on the spot.

Rawlings confirmed it himself.

Yeah. It's terrible on the surface.

We were legit trying to throw a contracted hunter clark out for the points equivalent of pick 25.

The only thing I can think of in order to justify it, is we genuinely think clark is cooked and very little chance of improving on his recent form.

Whether that be as a result of his attitude to fitness etc or his terrible impact injuries? Or both? Or neither?

My personal theory (pure speculation) is that perhaps clark has been fundamentally spooked by having his face re-arranged twice...and has lost much of whatever appetite he previously had for being a pro footballer?
And is now just going through the motions- and the club know it.

That's about the only halfway rational thing I can think of... because a fit, contracted clark is worth way more than a 6 pick upgrade on sheer potential alone- without even considering any of his actual performance to date.

Or alternatively... gags is just a dud.

Now that North fans are saying that they'll get him for nothing in 12 months, when was the last time a player left for peanuts a year after a trade request?

Champed, damn.

I think most can see our issue is consistency. When we play at our best we can match it with anyone, we've shown that but we are a mediocre side because we don't do it every week. So we've shown the talent is there to win a flag but we need to get serious about the work required to become a consistently good side and make that a reality.
We didn’t even make the 8 chieftain!
This is Richo all over again, we take a few scalps early running around with MaNiC PrEsSuRe, then get found out and put away easily later.

We lack grunt top to bottom unfortunately.

Dont think we have the mental toughness/thirst to be that unfortunately - We’ve been treading water for 10 years
That's our challenge next year, to me that's been our challenge for years. Since the Richo days we've been mentally fragile when it comes to any kind of adversity. That's probably due to a lack of leadership and I assume we tried rectifying it by bringing in established players but I would've preferred we just bring in a bunch of kids that have the resilience required to make us a consistently good side.

I am hoping the football depth cleanout was the actual trade period for us and those changes will be what we needed to make the jump instead of trading for anyone.

If we offered pick 3 for Bowes and 9 would you want the deal? They. have to sell this to members in a time where the club is battered. Lachie Hunter went for a future 3rdp. A pile of first round picks who haven't come on have been let go for loose change. This is the most fluid trade period ever and while everyone else is playing we are trying to do things in the old school way. We are like an old guy at the supermarket trying to pay for our groceries in copper coins while everyone else is at the self serve check out.

There's lots to be said for keeping your nerve and not doing crazy deals because everyone else is. More draft picks would be great, but well done to all in not getting caught up in the rush for shiny things and handfuls of beans.

I am stunned that Gags said we are a patient bunch that are fine to wait a year. We aren't patient at all. Loyal yes, but most definitely impatient. Jesus.
I mean… if you’re still supporting them now then you have to be patient. It’s not really a choice anymore.

We didn't make the 8 because we capitulated and the reasons are subjective but to me it's lack of mental toughness/resilience. Whenever we were challenged we folded like deck chairs, until we fix those issues around consistency and responding to adversity we will go nowhere but again at our best we have the ability to go with anyone in the comp...we just don't do it consistently.

And there it is LOL

Geez we've got some substantial holes on our list.

If Marshall goes down, we're relying on a guy who's played 5 games coming off an ACL, or a 19 y.o mid-season draft pick.

If King goes down, we're probably bombing it into Owens or Sharman in the goal square.

2023 ain't gonna be it unfortunately.
If Marshall goes down Campbell will play ruck before either of those two

Even if we had scraped in, how close do you think we are to the Cats, Pies, Dees, Swans, Tigers, Lions, even Dogs?

Feels like we say this every f*cking year, but, vErY iMpOrTaNt 2 oFf sEaSonS coming up

Then it comes down to coaching.
Whether it’s about the fitness, psychology, inspiration and/or game plan - we need the coaches.

Hoping that Lenny can make a huge difference ( might be just the mentor Clark needs) and hopefully we can get a very good forwards coach,

Easy for him to talk….he’s been a Saints “supporter” for about 5 years! Sheesh.

The gap between us and them is consistency. We didn't just show glimpses of being a good side we did it over the course of half a season, there's a big enough sample size there to make that judgement but there's also half a season of shitting the bed and that's precisely our issue, we are good enough to match it with the best sides but we fall away because we pick and choose when to turn up.

Reasons are subjective but to me that's mental fragility and lack of leadership, coaches and players alike.

we haven't got a list that can contend, if we did have Gallagher wouldn't have said what he did today.
They went the wrong way about the list build and are adjusting on the run hoping we don't notice

Every club above us has actively improved by bringing ready-made players in.
We do not stand a hope next year, my only wish is we plummet instead of stagnating as we’ve done ad nauseum for a decade.
Get some f*cking quality in.
We will have our turn next year.
Hopefully take/get picks for the so called super draft

Yes but we also need players out on the ground that will take control of the state of a game and push us in the right direction. Hawthorn weren't great just because of Clarkson, they were great because they had Hodge Mitchell Lewis Burgoyne Roughead etc leading them on the field. We lack that, it's one of the biggest holes in our list.

Will Geoff Walsh have to answer to Satan? Wish it was the other way around tbh
