The competition should be embarrassed.

AFL premier has pick 7 and gets two quality players
Sydney 5 free Academy players, we can't get a top 10 academy pick
PF finalist gets the no.1 pick as F/S
Bulldogs who were finalists gets no.1 Academy player and no.1 as a F/S in consecutive years.
We come tenth and get the 5th hardest draw

The AFL will fix it just in time for us to get better.

Pretty sure that pick 7 is what they'll use to get Bruhn, Henry or both. So it'll be a 9 out of 10 on the "this is bulldust" scale, rather than 9.75 out of 10.

The greater issues are at the other end. North have finished last two years in a row. Last year three of the top four players available in the draft were not available long term with JHF's departure. This year the top pick is going to a prelim team.

This is the much larger problem - the perversions to the objectives of the draft preventing the worst teams from getting the best talent.
Very true. But if they didn't get 7 for free they would have to had to find those picks.. Now they just get a tradeable asset to get those blokes for nothing. It's crook

But we still have to pay 95% of the cap to make sure you can't build that war chest.
Equalisation was never a serious consideration of the AFL.
The salary cap was used to ensure that the richer clubs stay at the top rather than help the poorer clubs.
Dogs & Demons have won flags recently

Only our self to blame for where we are

What's it got to do with you? Are you gringo's bodyguard? I don't think he needs to hide behind your skirts.
Got nothing to do with me.

You're constant aggression on here just pisses me off.

But I'll keep posting on whoever's post i want. Just like you do and just like everyone on the forum does. That's why it's a forum DB.

The AFL does not care about us. We just make up the numbers. No decent father sons, and as soon as our academy finally starts to deliver, they shift the goal posts against us. When we were up and about in 2008 - 2011, imagine the players we could have got in in that time if free agency was in then. Timing always terrible for the Saints. Footy gods??? Absent when it comes to the Saints.

we should be in a similar boat. We have Geary, Hanners (who we all know is on a famously large contract) and a few others all retiring/delisted. We should have SO MUCH MONEY on our hands. So what the hell else do we need to do as a club to get the talent? Money literally can’t be the issue here we just freed up a bunch and the draftees we’re bringing in should cost peanuts of cap space

They got 7 because Bowes nominated the cats just like if Bowes nominated us, we land the pick. Hardly surprising the club he chose. Not crooked at all.

The AFL put millions into the Dees to ensure they succeeded, and the Doggies are F/S central.

I'm positive if we got the same rescue package that Melbourne got, a premiership would surely follow.
Oh please
We get more money off the AFL then most clubs

historically ive been the first to bang on about the lack of equalisation in the AFL and rules for some and rules for others.

but on the geelong one. i dont think there is any rule or equalisation measure that would be fair.

more transparency on the cap would be better. i.e. income in cap vs income outside of cap should be declared and publicly listed for every club. it doesn't impeach on any confidentiality and would help fans understand where their club is at.

Dogs got F/S, and recently topped up while being in finals with two no.1 picks.

Melbourne got leg up after leg up from the AFL.

Not saying we aren't to blame for some, however the FIXture is stacked against us, and so is the trading

4.40 on a Sunday v GC every year v ANZAC Day, Dreamtime, Showdowns x2 Derby's x 2, Richmond v Carlton open the season every year.

We bring in being part of the 18 team broadcast rights than we get every year from the AFL. They owe us about 30 mill for 20 years of the Docklands contract shitf**kery they forced on us and sent us completely broke.

Did they intervene to get us a coach and a CEO? No they did not.

The AFL made a conscious decision to save Melbourne. Attention we have not received from the AFL to anywhere near the same degree.
We are only still here because of the millions of $$ they give us

Was it the AFL that let Pelchin do what he did to the list

Was it the AFLs decision to go to Seaford

Gave us Good Friday game and we screwed that as well

Being a club that gets the best out of its players is great for the cap. Blokes play there for half of what they could get on open market
We need our own home ground instead of having had to pay off docklands for tHE AFL. At one point in time we put 800,000 more people through the gates than our nearest competitor. The AFL but it for $1 and we still get a secondary deal to Essendon. Any wonder we are in so much debt?

We are where are because of our poor management

Yes we are in a similar boat and we structured to allow us to go hard at a De Goey but now that we failed in the bid rather than just saving the cap we have to reallocate it. Why should we have to pay 95% of the salary cap? A salary cap should be used to ensure that no club can over spend not to force clubs to over pay players. The smaller clubs already have the "small club penalty" to pay whereby they need to pay prospective recruits 25% more than the bigger clubs to even think about coming them but the AFL in it's wisdom have devised a system that means they cannot even save that extra wedge required.

It is what it is. Get the admin in order. Get the finances in order. Get the team playing good football. Once this has happened, work on tackling the structural inbalances our club is forced to endure. In the meantime, while maintaining our Saints memberships, follow the Cats for our sanity.
